Right. The kibbe subreddit is not helpful at all because everyone interprets the descriptions differently. Looking at the same photo, one person will say "the shoulders are blunt" while another person claims "the shoulders are sharp." It should be more objective but it's really very subjective.

@@raquel5401 try staying within your category then. if you fit soft natural criteria but you are tall you are a curvy flamboyant natural. The key is to reduce the "Kibbe types" to their core principles. Look at your bone structure. Which do you think is dominant: Verticality? Width? Balance? Petiteness? If you were to draw how fabric falls on your body, how would it look? Would it stretch around your shoulders? Drape around the hips? Drape out the bust? Or would it fall straight from your shoulders to your feet?

I wonder whether the height limitations on the Kibbe types need to be updated, because on average, people are taller now than in previous decades. Because of my 5'9" height, most of the categories are automatically ruled out. Yet when I took the test, Dramatic Classic was the closest to my score--except that I'm too tall. I don't feel like many of the A answers describe me (I'm not that thin) or many of the Bs either (I'm not that wide). Maybe I just need a pair of more objective eyes, haha.

Ethereal essence is part of Kitchener’s system. Originated sequentially prior to Kibbe’s system but Kibbe chose to omit the Ethereal and Ingenue from his system, leaving some of us stranded. I’m very dominantly an Ethereal. According to Kibbe, it doesn’t have a place in his system. He considers height to be a yang feature, and so someone long and sinewy yet all yin makes no sense to him. All yin would be short and delicate, not a long visual line and delicate. The major differences would be that an Ethereal is delicate in bone structure and overall soft in appearance, like a Romantic… with curves (unlike the straighter silhouette of Dramatics)… with height or long visual line. In this way, some perceive it as the midway point between Romantics and Dramatics. They have a delicateness and softness uncharacteristic of Dramatics, and a long line uncharacteristic of Romantics. They don’t really fit anywhere at all in Kibbe’s system. Which is why I was so lost with Kibbe. The difference in style advice is also palpable. Romantics suit waist emphasis, short lines (like midi-length skirts and dresses, 3/4 sleeves, cropped pants etc)… mid-sized rounded prints like florals, and light to mid-tone colours in light-weight fabrics. Ethereals are considered even more yin according to Kitchener, falling at the extreme yin end of his spectrum. Fabrics that are so lightweight they would fly away in the wind. Colours so light they have almost no contrast with your natural skin tone (meaning if dark-skinned, go by low contrast with your skin colour). Oversized, abstract prints rather than solid florals, yet still soft-edged rather than sharp or geometric. And NO waist emphasis. This is the thing that had me baffled. It’s the biggest style recommendation for Romantics and it was ALL WRONG for me lol. A skirt waistband or a demarcation with a belt, or even colour blocking works for Romantics and does NOT work for Ethereals. They need LONG visual line… like ankle length (not midi or cropped)… and monochromatic, low contrast, super pale colour schemes. One piece from head to toe works best, like a flowing dress. To elongate one part of the body (upper or lower), a dropped waist or an empire waist is best, not the natural waistline. Something that tapers at the waist rather than hangs (which reads more Natural), but doesn’t demarcate at the waist. Overall lighter fabric weight, lighter colours, more delicate florals and laces, ombré effects, more abstract prints and longer line everything (including accessories, hair, jewellery etc). Hope this helps!!! 💝😇😘

Oh lord thank you for this video. I've tried taking the Kibbe test twice. In the first round I was placed as a soft classic, but I'm 5'7" almost (halfway between 5'6" & 5'"7), so that placed me in the dramatic classic and that didn't look right at all based off of the images and description given. The second time through my answers were skewed with C5, B4, D3, E3 and I couldn't place myself at all. Your explanation along with the examples you provided (alongside another outside viewpoint from a friend) I've been placed as a dramatic classic for certain. I think prior it was just really hard for me to place myself based off of the description that the person had. Thank you so much!

This is so hard to figure out my type, because I’m ethnically Chinese, we are in general shorter. Like in America 5ft is automatically petite, but in China that is the average height. It just makes everything really confusing because I I think I have a longer vertical line but on tests it doesn’t matter bc I’m so short. Also don’t even get me started on the face part of the questions 😭

IGNORE THE HEIGHT LIMIT. Trust me, all it ever does is confuse people and throw the "final score" off, and it's not nearly as important as things like bone structure anyway. If you absolutely MUST analyse your height, go off the proportions of your head compared to the rest of your body instead.

I have a pixie kind of look. I’ve always looked better with medium to short hair. I’m 5’2 and 90lbs-115lbs (due to ED it varies), but no matter how thin I am I don’t really look under weight. I’m kinda naturally big boned while also very petite. I feel like I’m fairly sharp, my shoulders seem a little wide and when I’m at a healthy weight I’m a curvy petite (like 35-26-35). My limbs are pretty small. My torso and legs both seem pretty short with how I’m built. Even when I am health my hips are very bony and you can always see at least some of my rib cage on my chest. So I’m guessing I’m probably a gamine or a flamboyant gamine. I can’t go off of how I see myself because body dysmorphia is legit, but going off of how others refer to how I look I guess I’m a gamine but I’m not sure

P.S. for those who think she's lying about her height she's not because Kelly Rowland and Michelle are both 5'8 and 5'9 respectively and we can see that Bey is only a little shorter than them; pictures with other celebrities also illustrate that she is that height.
