Marriage is on the job training. Many of us marry with unrealistic expectations and when those expectations aren't met, unfortunately, they're tempted to call it quits. Get ready to catch your breath for this witty conversation with comedian Marcus D. Wiley as he gives brothers an inside look into the covenant of marriage. The real reason today’s ladies don’t stay through thick and thin is not independence. I believe it is about understanding mental health. Our Grandmothers were put through an enormous amount of trauma. They were taught to stay even if they are getting their skull cracked. We have embraced the importance of mental health.

Great comment and it is so much the truth. Those marriages mostly were based on survival and women depending on men for their basic needs. That is not the makings of a real relationship. Of course men took advantage and there was abuse, men having whike families doen the street, and overall disrespect. Can't blame a woman for wanting to be sure she is not in a position to be abused like that.

Just watched this episode and wanted to comment on the “independent woman”. Most women today would rather have a good man that they can feel safe with and depend on however, when we experience heartbreak, disappointment and various unpleasant situations within our relationships consistently, it makes us decide that we can do better by ourselves. No one wants to be alone but sometimes it’s easier being single. I really enjoyed this episode…

I agree; a part 2 is needed. The fact that they have a marriage where if they are upset with one another; they are still there for one another. Granted, because they have been married for a long time, they had to grow into this way of communication. I love it and I am here for it. It’s good to hear a males perspective on marriage and what women can do better to become available for a man and let a man know that we need them.

Yes, back in the day women tolerated many things because they were so financially dependent on their husbands. Also, people never mention how miserable those women were. And many independent women would love a man to take lead and be there. But why no one addresses the issue of the lack of men in the black community that have no desire to be married or committed to one woman or the men removed from the community due to prison or drugs. Leaving many women to raise children alone or to build alone. We are independent by necessity. When I look at my non black sisters very few are left without a man to protect or help them…a father, a husband or a brother. You wouldn’t believe the number of independent women who are TIRED but keep pushing because they have to.

A woman always needs to be independent. If you find a good man.. most certainly go for it! 100% but I didn’t like the fact that they talked about the men having families down the street.. and the women stayed.. is that what is wanted? Hell to the no

I get it..but I'm going to play devil's advocate just for a second. The cookie can't be enjoyed unless a woman gives it away/shares it. I think the conversation should also include men who don't want to commit because so many women are so easy, so in his mind he's thinking "why do I need a committed relationship when women are throwing it at me left and right". Then if you look further into this you get people like Future, the rapper (multiple children, different women). At some point women have to have discernment.

I make it a point to teach my son , chase your dreams now , live by yourself, build your credit, save your money. Do not seek out a wife until you can fully take care of yourself, so you don’t need a woman to feed you and have to feel less of a man or you feel disrespected by her. You have one mother I will help guide you so your wife won’t have the burden that’s my responsibility.

Speak Sista, I've taught my son the same thing. I've preached to him as a child to b independent and to b good to and for someone's daughter. I taught him to cook and clean. I told him he may not get married for awhile so he's going to need to know how to take care of himself or when he does get married he can b a help mate to his wife around the house. He doesn't have to depend on no woman to take care of him, he can take care of her. I told him when he gets married, don't have kids rite off the rip. Njoy ur wife, travel and make alot of memories, have ur finances n order and have ur own place and car. He's shown me that he listened. He'll b 32n Feb. Graduated w/his Batchelors (working towards his masters), has a good job n his career field making 6digits, has his own place and car and no kids @ this point. I'm so grateful. I spent Christmas @ his place, he cooked Christmas dinner. I spent the nite, it was a really special feeling... I'm so grateful to God that he got it. He beat the odds and is a successful, independent young man w/goals and determination. I feel so blessed. Wishing U and ur son all the best.

There are some good godly men out here who want to be married. And who love the covenant of marriage. I was just telling my girlfriend on last night that I am praying for a younger man, because at 53……… LORD KEEP ME!! 🤗 I love how he said that Erica knows him. That analogy was so personal for me. Last night I was at Pappadeaux’s‘s eating at the bar by myself and I remember mumbling to the Lord that I can’t wait to sit here with my husband. I can’t wait to know my husband. My husband and I even saw him in person at our church. What a blessing. I love the part about being free and reading the Bible for oneself. Depending on what church a person attends, there can be total bondage. Thank God for the spiritual leaders who are really preaching God's word and showing compassion just like Jesus.

"But since I'm here, listen to me." 🤣🤣🤣 And the way he was pronouncing coconuts. Hilarious. This podcast is amazing. Men need to shift if they want to be needed or wanted, women did for protection from controlling/abusive/lazy spouses, for choices, for an education and ultimately out of necessity. There is nothing wrong with being wanted, because need sounds exhausting to me. I do not want to marriages or dynamics in the relationships my parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts had/have. Things have shifted, and men will be hard pressed to find women that need them unless they are much young or literally off the street.

I think things have shifted also because more women know their worth. You can’t want to feel needed by one woman but then due to infidelity you are needed all down the street. So then the woman who decides to exit a relationship in which there was a breach is seen as being too independent as if she wanted that. A lot of women’s independence is due to necessity not a desire to be dismissive of men and their contribution to a relationship. Great episode.

This is why I tell people to MARRY for LOVE ALONE. When you marry for love alone you will never have to worry about being covered by your spouse. Love covers a multitude of ailments/ future constraints. One can get physically, emotionally, mentally, or financially at any age within a marriage. .I would say to make sure that you are becoming one for the right reasons.

Right. But it's too mant people saying "love isn't as feeling, it's an action". That is only true in part. There are many spouses that prove their "love" through action, i.e. Doing Things, but it does not feel like affectionate love. It's being done out of obligation, rather than heartfelt love.

First, hilarious episode😂😂😂. Second Marcus said the more independent a woman, the more harder for her to get married. This is exactly why I be calling my dad with my many requests. Trust and believe, I can do almost everything on my own. However, I’m not trying to be or appear independent. I’m not going to be faking it like I don’t require a man because I do.

When Marcus (and he was Hilarious on this) said his friend's wife packed up and he didn't see it coming...He knew, he just ignored her warning shots. I know because I served my Ex twice with divorce papers, still in the home, and he ignored them, and when I was leaving, he showed up at home early and he couldn't believe it. I even started talking months out from then and letting him know I was done and it was over. He looked devastated and had ugly words for me once my movers had me all loaded up. And I rolled out and the divorce was final two months later, uncontested. He knew, but didn't believe I would pull that trigger. And to speak to the Bishop's message, most women become that way because we have had men that didn't carry the load with her as a partner and are tired, as I was, of carrying more than she should have, but not once will he grow and/or step up when she is needing him to, that gets Real old. IT'S a easier load without dead weight that don't want to do RIGHT,then she has to do it to survive beause thats what it is! Great interview Laterras! Keep doing this and blessing people's lives.💕✌🏾
