If You Eat Fast Food, THIS Happens To Your Body

A journey through your body the moment you take your first bite of fast food. Discussing why Fast Food tastes so good - yet can make you feel very, very bad.
We'll discuss what happens to your brain, body, and digestive system the MOMENT you take your first bite and onward. (Everyone's body is different so not every point will be applicable to all people - but I've based everything on research articles and various books!)
We'll talk about the brain's endorphin and dopamine release, cravings, the blood sugar rollercoaster, endothelial function, indigestion, and the immune system/ inflammatory effects of fast food.
Some of the food industry magic is also discussed in this video: the bliss point, flavorists, and "natural flavours"
Disclaimer: This video is not meant to make you feel bad about your eating choices or keep you away from fast food. Its purpose is help spread more information about the true impacts of eating fast food - regardless of body size. Yes you can eat fast food every once in a while and still be healthy even if you're on a weight loss journey- but I think its important to share this information so everyone is able to make an informed choice.
Eating healthy food is not just about body weight!
This video is my version of one of those @BRIGHTSIDEOFFICIAL or @BestieHealth/ @WatchMojo videos - I'm always disappointed when I click one "titled This is What Happens to Your Body When You Eat ...." and then they turn out just to be Healthline articles lol. So I wanted to make something with some better information! I may do a whole different series of these if you guys like it!

Same. I cut out fast food, ALL deep fried foods, all soda beverages (regular/diet/club/tonic/energy), commercial juices, sugared sauces, sugared breakfast cereal, and microwave popcorn. Now my healthy home cooked meals made with wild fish, fresh produce, whole grains, and limited oil/salt and minimal industrial additives DO have their sparkle back! And air popped popcorn actually tastes good now lol. Over time I realized that our country’s professionally engineered food hijacked my perception of taste and pleasure and prevented me from genuinely enjoying whole foods I still make sure to allow myself to have an indulgence every now and again. I can enjoy the occasional light icecream, chips ahoy cookie, baked good or slice of mushroom pizza without feeling any shame or guilt. I also allow myself to drink Bubly/LaCroix without being disappointed in myself for not drinking plain water.

Good for you! You're setting yourself up for a much better adulthood. You should be really proud of yourself! I thought I'd better mention though - I really wouldn't do a month's fast like Kyle is suggesting - you're at a life stage where you're growing and you really need your protein and other nutrients right now. Also, it's very common to get worse weight control problems after crash diets, which can lead to much worse problems than what you had before. A lot of very obese people started their problems with crash dieting. What you're doing sounds really healthy, and your waistline shrinking is the proof. If you want to go further, why not just cut down more on the junk food, and introduce more healthy stuff - wholegrain, veggies, etc. No need to be drastic. You've got this!

@@Sarah-vg7km eating beef and lamb isn’t fasting though. And that provides all the protein and nutrients someone who’s 15 would need. Whole grains and veggies are not good stuff. Imo that’s conditioning we’ve all undergone. We disagree which is fine but I think this person would be way better off taking the route I suggested. More and more evidence is coming out weekly and monthly to back this up too. You’re just parroting what you were conditioned to believe. It’s not correct though.

People like that have actual fears of foods outside of what they are comfortable with. Also, I don't think it's solely due to food addiction, I think it's a mix of things. For instance, I struggle with anorexia and I have gotten that same way in the past when I've tried to eat some of my biggest fear foods such as cheeseburgers or cupcakes. The thoughts that you have about what will happen if you eat your fear food are very irrational and are blown out of proportion. And for some people it could even bring back traumatic memories if they experienced trauma in relation to that food in some way. I personally really don't think she's just being dramatic but idk, that's just what I think. Like I said I think it's been taken out of context and some people have fears, phobias, and things that make them uncomfortable that without hearing the whole story, we might not understand. I don't think it's something to laugh at☹️

Not mentioned very often, in order to eat healthy and make it sustainable, it really helps to know how to cook! It is not only up to these fast food companies to self-regulate (which they won’t), but government also bears a tremendous responsibility. Hamburgers are a great example of food you can make better because you aren’t trying to do it on an industrial scale while maximizing profits. You can get the original KFC seasoning off the shelf also, I think it’s called 99x. The real secret ingredient, on top of the other herbs and spices, is MSG, IIRC.

There were times where we would have fast food everyday and I would literally crave a vegetable rather than have more fast food. And by the age of 11 I already had second stage high blood pressure. Now I’m 18 and I eat a mainly plant based diet while going to the gym 5 days a week. I feel much healthier and I never want to go back to that lifestyle ever again. So Coca-Cola and other stuff were just banished from my mother and today, I'm glad. Never eaten any McDonald stuff, never had any health issues and I'm just preparing homemade pizza, the dough and everything. Cooking is pure joy and when it's kept simple, you are not hungry every third hour, you are not grazing between meals but you enjoy fully what you have freshly cooked. It's a simple philosophy everybody could embrace, if only they would do it.

When I was ten we moved to an area with a grocery store in walking distance, and slowly I started spending my own money on more healthy food bc I was craving it. Now I have a part time job and buy my own food + I work out. I’m glad I stopped living like that, I would never go back either.

I remember reading a quote from a nutritionist: "Your taste buds have a memory of about three weeks." In other words, years of fast food, junk food, and all around heavily processed garbage have overstimulated our taste buds, making us crave levels of salt, sugar and fat that are beyond what we normally should have. We can 'feel' full, but still 'crave' our fix. Learning to cut back on all three, eating whole, unprocessed foods and plenty of produce for a long of enough period of time, like a month to a year, will help you reset your taste buds. I used to have quite the sweet tooth, throwing in syrup and all kinds of sweets into my fruit smoothies. Now? frozen fruit, water, and maybe some almond milk are enough for me. You can fix this!

@@moskiix5323 cow's milk has hormones in it - that are obviously very good for little cows, but not that good for entirely different species, like human beings. It can and will hurt you, even if you do not see it at first. Also, milk has lactose in it - lactose is a sugar and it does not matter if the milk is "lactose-free" or not. Because the second one only has put the lactase enzyme in it, so the lactose is still there, it's only already digested, so a grown-up body that doesn't produce lactase anymore (we actually need it only as children to digest milk from out mums) can drink it without nasty consequences. So, by drinking milk you actually are giving your body sugars and hormones that it does not need. It's totally better/healthier to just take some water with a little bit of nut paste in it (like almond "milk") or something else made from healthy stuff (like oat "milk", it also tastes good). Also, many people put cow's milk away because of the way cows are treated. Animals that are "producing" things for us are too often living in real hell and many people hate it, so they f.ex. turn vegetarian and refuse to take any products made with suffering of feeling creatures.

@@theAsperist I agree with every point EXCEPT the hormone part. Unless you are talking about cow's milk straight from the farm, most pasteurized milk has hormones as well - but in such small quantities, that you would need to drink tons of milk all day to even reach a level where the hormones can affect your body in even the most mild way. And even then, your digestive tract erases those hormones. But as for your point about lactose and the morality issue, I absolutely agree.

Another theory is that it's because of sugar. We still need more research on this field. Also please remember, that hormones are pretty easy to be made unstable - you do not have to eat much chicken (hormone-fed on farms of cages) or drink tons of milk (naturally occuring hormones + hormones in diet). Just a daily intake is usually enough.

"it“s food, not a drug." Could not agree less. Dealt with food addiction, and smoked for years. Quitting smoking is infintely easier than quitting junk food. Also, my psych textbook listed sugar as one of the prominent addicting substances, so there's that.

  • @oasenhoheit

    @oasenhoheit

I totally agree with this statement. The problem is, that fast food / super processed food IS turned into a drug, just as was described in this video itself! And everyone is different in how strong their addictive reaction to it is, how fast they get addictive or how fast they lose that addiction. I lost around 60 pounds over the last two years, switching to a whole food plant based diet, and have never felt better before my entire life. I call myself a sugar addict, who is clean, and to me it is a lot easier not to eat those foods anymore, than to taste a little, but then limit the amount of what I eat. Total abstinence is a lot easier for me, and I think it would be for most. But since processed food is omnipresent in our society, starting with the white bread and pasta and rice, which most restaurants and families serve exclusively, you're often looked at as if you were an alien from outer space, if you tell people, that you eat whole wheat products only. And as soon at is passes your mouth, starch with its fiber removed and sugar basically cause the same reaction inside your body.

Soy Yui it’s sad, the educative, well informed creators don’t have enough subscribers because lots of them (after getting a large amount of subscribers) end up trying to get more ‘interesting’ or a larger amount of content. Often times, to get more content, the KZreadrs will cut out some amount of research or experimentation to get a more often upload. Think of channels like brightside, they know that a title such as ‘what happens if you eat cucumber everyday for a year’ draws people in, which also brings money in. However, they have no way to test what would happen, or they know that the answer isn’t interesting enough to make the video into the minimum length of 10:00 (I think) minutes that a KZread video has to be to earn money from views; so they go off topic to drag it out, all for the sake of a couple of cents per every thousand views if this makes no sense, it is because it is currently 2:33 where I live and I need to sleep

Well it is true. Dopamine is made as a reward for achieving a goal or overcoming a problem. But games and fast food and drugs give instant dopamine surges so it messes with the system and makes you addicted to the easy access dopamine surges which crashes your dopamine into the ground so you have no motivation to do anything.

They did a study and they took rats and gave them a button for food , the rats would obviously keep pressing the button to get food , and they would actively go for it . They then took rats and removed their dopamine system somehow (idk exactly how , my guess is a dopamine blocking drug) and the rats would not move to get the food. They would press the button if they were directly in front of it , but they were not motivated to actually get the food. Dopamine is a motivation chemical, dopamine creates a drive to do something , the reward comes from the endorphins and other chemicals

When I was a kid, my mom was STRICT about the food we ate. We barely ever ate fast food and there was no such thing as chips, soda, or sugary snacks in our house. All we had were animal crackers, water and maybe a lil juice here and there. Not even peanut butter a healthy fat 😂😂. It was either animal crackers or home cooked meals. I definitely thank God for her and so glad she raised us this way. I barely even glance at fast food. I prefer my own cooking. It tastes much better anyways.

It really does taste better, there's a little Ceasars up the road from me and around 6pm there's a long line in the drive thru and I always think to myself, why would they pay 15 bucks for that pizza when they could make WAY better pizza way cheaper? It's not even a matter of not having enough time either, make the dough before you go to bed or before work then when you get home just shape it, put toppings on and back for 8 min at 500°.

@@kaneda956 ; exactly this! and on top of that, you literally need food to live unlike recreational drugs. and the harm fast food causes is a lot less visible and understood than the extremely obvious danger of drugs as well. unfortunately, society doesnt portray junk food to be just as self-destructive and addicting as other addictions. this does seem shocking upon first read, but when you think about it, it makes *total* sense that fast food is harder to drop than drugs.
