Also, if you have a newer car the solar charger may not charge the battery through the lighter socket if the car is turned off, so you’ll have to connect the solar charger directly to your car’s battery (cables are included). Thanks for the tip on the solar powered battery maintainer. I got a generic fiberglass panel solar charger from eBay with dubious electronics and over-charging the battery is one of my concerns. It is good to see a solar panel with apparently switches to float charge mode if the battery is full.

You're thinking outside the box Scotty and it makes me feel really bad. I'v had one of those small panels sitting in the closet for years as a backup cell phone charger during hurricanes. I also have a older spare Toyota sitting in the yard as a backup car in case mine craps out. Been going out every couple weeks to throw a heavy battery charger on it to keep the battery up and it's a pain. I'll be putting that panel on the dash real soon. Thanks Scotty.

I’ve always used the Battery Tender to maintain your battery if your battery is sitting for a long time. I have a show car and it sits in the garage all winter. The battery tender keeps the battery topped off without overcharging. I also have two deep cycle batteries that go in my 32 Ft fifth wheel camp trailer. I remove them before storing the camper, put them in the garage and use one Battery Tender to keep them topped off when you use cables to hook the batteries in series. These batteries typically last for six years when the batteries in my truck and car only last 4 1/2 to 5 years. I live in Wyoming and we don’t have as many clear sky days where Scotties solar charger is in use. The Battery Tender use 110volt house current and are very reliable. I’ve never had one fail in the past 15 years.

I bought a used pickup three and one half years ago, and found I was driving the pickup while my car sat in the garage. The next time I went to drive my car, no start. I got a little solar panel charger and leave it plugged in. Even in the garage (there is a window) it kept the car battery charged. I have one in both vehicles now, also one for my riding lawnmower. My sister is retired and rarely drives. Wound up in a no start situation, brand new car and battery. I bought her one. She also has a window in her garage.

I have a ‘98 Jeep GC that has some random electrical issue, so if I don't drive the vehicle every week the batter goes dead. 😢This sounds like a great temporary fix until we can figure out what the gremilin electrical issue is… plus we just bought a 20’ enclosed trailer and this would be a great idea to attach one of these to the trailer to keep the tiny battery charged so we will always have lights and keep the battery charged so when we are using this over the next few months to move across country, it will stay charged… Thank You again Scotty for another great tip.

I have a Solar car battery charger . It works on older GM cars but not on Japanese cars because the ' cigarette ' lighter is not on without the key on or on accessory mode . If your cig lighter doesnt work unless the key is on , these chargers wont work unless you keep it directly connected to the battery ( not the cig lighter socket ) Connect it and put a voltmeter on your battery and you can see whether or not its charging .

You might have to register the Luckeep e-bike as a motorcycle in the state where I live. There’s a 750 Watt (~1 HP) limit on the assist motor and speed limit of 20 MPH without pedal assist. You might find yourself in a Catch-22 because the state won’t license vehicles without VINs in the standard format (unless you have an old car like I do, from before standardized VINs). Of course you could just go ahead and ride and as long as you aren’t a jerk in traffic probably no cop is going to hassle you about your bike. Riding that little Luckeep 30 MPH must be pretty interesting. I’ve ridden my 27 inch pedal powered road bike just over 30 MPH and it was pretty hairy.

I was having battery drainage issues and got a similar solar charger just to find out that my lighter sockets only work when the ignition is on. So I had to run separate 12V wires from the battery into the cab where I could hook it to the panel.

Scotty,so who makes that light bar at the end of the video and is it waterproof? Was thinking, my snowblower doesn't have a light on it and if I use it at night I just pop it on the top front of the machine and just pull it off to recharge. Thanks SO much.

Doesn't even matter in a no fault state. At least it doesn't matter enough to make me want to buy one. The insurance companies just fight it out amongst themselves anyways. An accident is going to raise your rates regardless.

I just have booster cables in the trunk...lol I can see how this could be very handy though however its like 200$ where I live while my cables cost like 30$. On the very few times I have need a boost it never took more than 5mins to find someone willing to park their car in front of mine to do so either that said I can see how this would be handy in remote areas camping etc.

Scotty your best bet if you have a place to plug it in is to own Battery Tenders I have found for many years going back to the 1980’s especially on cars like Collector Cars that you don’t use everyday. There is nothing better. I even used them on my Garden Tractors, a Sport Utility Quad I use on my property and an old Tow Motor Fork Lift I store in my Pole Barn. You can’t beat them. Anything with an acid wet cell battery.
