    I moved here to the "ssip" nearly 6 years ago and me, my wife, and kids love it! I spent 15 years in Salt Lake City Utah and 15 years In Phoenix Arizona before I ended up here. Between the 3 places Mississippi is by far my favorite. We ended up in the Castlewoods subdivision and never want to leave!

    I lived between Byram and Raymond for over 17 years. Nice if you like green, muggy, heat, 3rd world countries. I traveled all over the Jackson area and the SE. I finally moved away early in the Spring of 2023. I miss the flowers, the birds and my neighbors. Once I left my eye of the hurricane I always felt like I was in no mans land. Most people are so defensive. I became that way myself and ended up having a CCW permit and carried almost everywhere I went. I miss the Springs and the Falls, wonderful and I was lucky do dodge the tornadoes. Some good food but most restaurants look like a ma and pa picnic place. You have to enjoy heat and humidity with lots of weeds and be watchful where ever you go. I visited many places you mentioned. I lived too long there. There are wonderful homes with land at a reasonable price in most areas. Easy to move into MS but hard to move out of. Enjoyed the fishing when it was not too hot. Always pros and cons no matter where. Just not for me.

    Hello. Do you know if the public officials are still working on the water situation in Jackson?

  • @LivingInJackson

    Its an ongoing thing and probably will be for a while. The "crisis" isn't as much of a crisis anymore. The water system is working and providing clean water, but a lot of upgrades and maintenance still needs to be done to ensure the system works long term.

    We are now under the control of ted henifin. He manages water and now sewer. As a south jackson resident who went 12 days without water last christmas, i can very conclusively say since about april, the water pressure has increased 2 fold, even 3 fold. Very very noticable down here. But also of note, when things do break, and water does go out, it is now repaired in just hours. Not weeks. Months. Or even years like it was before federal takeover. So that alone should be peace of mind. I actually lost water just this weekend and it was fixed by 2 pm in the afternoon. I have a feeling that if a deep freeze were to happen again like the christmas cold last year, it would not be nearly as bad bc the feds are here to fix it right away. Jxn water has also established a new 24/7 call center which you can call if water goes out. Or if you have low pressure. That did not exist before but was established thanks to federal money

    Is Jackson really so dangerous? I'm European and I might be considering working as a professor at Jackson State University. Safety is a concern for me and it could influence my decision. Thanks for your time.

    Jackson state is pretty safe there on the campus, but there are some higher crime areas nearby. If you’re going to live in the area right around campus that might be a concern, but if you’re commuting in from another part of town or a suburb, I don’t think you’d have too much to worry about. Check out our channel for our other videos on crime in the area, or feel free to call or text 601.292.6070 if you have some specific questions we can help with.

    Yes, it’s dangerous. I know four men that were robbed at gunpoint while they were waiting to go inside of a tradeshow in Jackson. Don’t buy a house there because you will never be able to resell it. Louisiana is another place to avoid

    Not so much dangerous but you aren't likely to have your vehicle broke into or stolen. The only time you are really going to be in danger is if you don't grade your classes on a curve

    I was born and raised in south Jackson, but I would only live in Rankin or Madison counties. I know a lot of people who moved here who call themselves progressive and move to Fondren because it’s artsy. Most end up regretting it because they get robbed or car jacked.

    You made me think of that Michael Jordan video. “Stop. Get some help.” 😂 but seriously though, we are talking about the whole metro area here. There are a lot of really nice places in the metro area and even in the city of Jackson. Plus I’m hearing great things about crime reduction in Jackson with the expansion of the capitol police.

  • @user-zn2pt6pu8d

    @user-zn2pt6pu8d

    @@LivingInJackson LOL ok. The city has failed its citizens so badly that it had to expand the role of THEIR police to make parts of Jackson safe. You cite this as a positive and it is probably the only positive you can cite. So let us look at the negatives: 1 The water department is a ghost agency without people qualified to fix their own equipment, parts of Jackson with out enough water pressure to flush toilets and actual drinking water? Do you drink Jackson water? 2 The roads, even in eastover (that's one of those "good" areas, private security, high property taxes), the roads are terrible, it only gets worse from there. 3. Presently the Mayor and District Attorney are under investigation by the FBI, as in the raids have already been conducted and materials seized. WHich would be a plus but Jackson voters will find a way to put another loser in office. That loser if the pattern holes will complain "The man is keeping us down" The Jackson voters will buy this not realizing "The Man" is the mayor and city council. 4. F rated public schools despite high levels of funding. 5 Crime and lots of it. The criminal element seems intent on making the whole of Jackson into one big ghetto. Politicians like our mayor and Stokes and a few of the goofier members of the city council seem hell bent to help them. I believe this strongly enough I didn't vote for any politician at the state level that was already in office, they have failed Jackson. Which should have been labeled dysfunctional and taken over by the state government. THey have avoided doing this in the name of not wanting to look racist, cause you know appearances matter lol

    @UpNxtMedia You have to prepare yourself for moving to MS, just as you would if you moved to a more remote state like Alaska or Wyoming. You need a car, because public transportation, even in the state capitol of Jackson, is limited. If you chose to move to a rural area, move as close as you can near the interstate, so if you need to get to a major city for hospital/medical care, shopping, entertainment, etc., you don't have such a long commute. It is not all bad, just an adjustment. People in MS are generally nice, but tend to overstep their boundaries by being inordinately NOSY. Food is good, housing is affordable, easy to get jobs and get promoted faster than you would be in say in major cities in the east or west coast and middle America. Neighborhoods in Jackson that are nice are Fondren, which is near downtown Jackson and the Medical District which runs along State Street. The JSU area has some very nice housing options within walking distance to campus. Jackson has been hard hit by the COVID shutdown, as have lots of places across the country. It's making a comeback slowly. It's a great place to open a business, and a family oriented place.
