    Love this song and Just learning travis picking. when I get to the point where I want to play like the recording and Im adding in more melody. is the travis picking pattern the same and I just add the notes in with my fretting hand? im referring to the part in the video that starts about 6:30. love your videos thanks!!

    Hi Thomas, the picking I show at 3:12 is an important step towards mastering the picking at 6:30. The more confident you are with the 3:12 picking, the easier the 6:30 picking will be !! Please can I ask... If you go from Em to Bm do you use the index finger first? Then middle, then pinky and ring? What is the best sequence of fingers? This is still a bit of a struggle for me... Thanks!

    Song Bike - jkehew1 already practicing barre chords for 1 year. It is just still between open chords and barre chords that I have difficulties. Is it always first the index finger? E.g. D to B minor, you always do first start with the index, right? My left hand is more automatically with first pinky and ring, then middle, then index.... :S Thank you for anwering me. I really do appreciate that!

    Did we get the fingerpicking for the chorus? If it's the same, I don't think we got one for the D chord?

  • @jkehew1

    Hi Marbles, I believe the picking is the same. I would use the C finger-picking pattern for the D, just to keep things simple. Hope that helps! Hi Louis, I really respect your efforts. The guitar is tough enough without the extra challenge you face. There's a lot of interesting guitar-playing that goes along with this terrific tune. I'm not sure how to describe it in words, but you should know that there are several chords beyond the D chord, such as B minor. I wish I could send a great guitar teacher right to your front door becuase that would be the best way to learn it - with a teacher right there with you. I wish you all the best, Jonathan

    Song Bike - jkehew1, hi, thank you for replying. I know there are other chords in the song. For chords rooted on the 6th string, the thumb hits 6 and 4. For chords rooted on the 5th string, the thumb hits 5 and 4. What do you do for chords rooted on the 4th string? That part of the alternating bass is where my understanding falls short..

  • @jkehew1

    @jkehew1

    You can alternate with your thumb between the 4th and 3rd strings or between the 5th and the 4th. Personal preference!

    You start by giving the Em and C chords, but then refer to them as Em and G. And when you show the strumming pattern at 4:30, you don't really give a lot of detail. After playing the first Em and C(?), I feel a bit lost. Is there anyway to clarify things?

  • @jkehew1

    Hi Johnny, I watched the video again, to better understand your question. I think if you watch it again, it will help. I use the Em and C chords as examples to illustrate the general finger-picking pattern used in the song.

    Hi Daniel, thanks for watching. I reviewed the video and I see where I provided the chorus chords and an appropriate finger-picking pattern for the song, including the chorus. I think that's all you'll need! It's the intro that is the most "spohisticated" part, if I remember correctly. By the way, I just wrote my first guitar book (and I have a book for total beginners on the way !)
