@@bobwatchit9636 that's one reason I miss southern California. My biggest large mouth was 17lbs. I'll never beat that. I catch a lot of walleye and big giant trout up here in Colorado. Biggest rainbow trout is 12lbs so far. Ice fishing

Yea coop i agree fishing with buddies often results in standing around talking haha. Thats why i like live bait fishing when with people so you can just kick back and chill until you, hopefully, catch one.

Ive run out of live bait and fresh cut mullet on the beach in Matagorda and used hardy boys. I caught some very large reds, some super ugly drums and shark with em. Now I always keep a few small ones as a bait option when I first get there. Cut off the spines when you chunk it up though.

I haven't seen a difference between fresh dead and live shrimp for Sheepers in strikes. Frozen or "less than fresh" dead shrimp definitely makes it not as appealing bait. I will often use live shrimp and break them into 2-3 pieces and worm the hook up through the body taking the shell off, hiding the hook tip/barb in the body to get less bait stolen and that has been very successful this year.

It's not a fishing trip unless something goes wrong. Boat trouble, you forget something crucial. That's my experience at least. Today's fluke trip, my friends dad missed a crab pot. It ended up firmly wrapped around the prop. Some prop damage but nothing major. I unwrapped it, cut it, and thank god we got back to fishing. Only caught 2 keepers but that's okay. Some years you catch 20 to 25 smalls for one keeper. They raise the length ever year?

Man, I used to live in SeaBrooke Tx. My buddy's friend came home drunk from fishing. He had caught a decent sized hardhead, and managed to get stung by the same fish about 10 times. He got all talgled in the line and fell...........it wasn"t pretty. I told him to go to the hospital...........and never saw him again, Lol.........freaking IDIOT!!!
