One of the major themes of this album is the nature of abuse between people, and I think this song could be interpreted a few different ways within that context. Like someone mentioned, Jamestown is a pretty big influence, and you could choose to hear these lyrics as almost a direct parallel to a manipulator trying to persuade their vicim into suicide. Another reference throughout the song is Aileen Wuornos, whose name you hear directly a few times. Aileen was a serial killer who targeted men who had tried to r*pe her earlier in life, so another interpretation is that the protagonist of the song is convincing Aileen to take her own life before she’s persecuted by the criminal justice system for her crimes and to prevent further sexual abuse. You could see it as a clip of abuse within someone’s relationship with a narcissist. The abuser is working to isolate the victim from their loved ones (“I’m the best friend you’ll ever have” and “everyone you love will leave you, but not me”), their sense of purpose and fulfillment in the world (“all of this is meaningless without me”), and ultimately break the victim into bending to the abusor’s will. You can also notice that the vocals get more angry and desperate the longer the song goes on, presumably because the victim is refusing and the abuser is becoming more violent in response. All in all, really really haunting and heavy song. I imagine that writing and recording this was a really cathartic experience though.

Kristin herself about this song: "This song is also pretty brutal lyrically, it examines the concept of not being able to go on, reclaiming autonomy through suicide, which sometimes has felt like my only option. The Kyrie Eleison ('Lord Have Mercy, Christ Have Mercy') descends down the scale and then you are left with only voice, piano, and cello. The lyrics are a sort of recontextualisation of the Jonestown death tape, the way Jim Jones kept manipulating until the very end. I wanted to replicate also the really fucked up ambient sound in the death tape, the people screaming, the panicked energy, and I remember someone commenting on a post Full Of Hell made about my music that I had “zero blast beats” so not only are there blast beats ripped from youtube hidden all over the record but they’re especially present on this song, as well as a sample of a black metal track that will remain nameless. As dark as it is, there are little jokes like that everywhere - self-awareness. I am really interested in the “gaze” of this music, who is being looked at and who is doing the looking, and how that shifts rapidly."

Have watched this review more times than I care to mention. It's fascinating your man thinks it wil be rap pop based on the cover, when I've always seen a beaten womean with a bruised lip. Brilliant review, loved it

I have thought the same several times, especially noticeable on the first track of the Caligula-album.

"She could do a side project metalcore band", "Zombie movie". I'm sure the dude's a nice guy but he sounds like he's forcing a positive fake reaction like bruh, are you even paying attention to the song?
