Reminds me of reading on Wikipedia how the Bing Crosby movie "Dixie" (a Daniel Decatur Emmett biopic with a lot of blackface) isn't being suppressed, it's simply "not being promoted." The fact it was shown on AMC over 35 years ago was presented as "proof" it isn't intentionally being withheld. If the public hasn't had access to a movie in 35 years, it's being suppressed.

I owned the Slave I ship as a kid...the name was on the box. Not sure what entity decided to change the name, but "Slave I" sounded more ominous and evil to me as a kid than "Boba Fett's Ship" many years later.

Later this year Lego will be releasing an Ultimate Collections Series Jabba's Sail Barge. The set is aimed at adult collectors. Depending on if Leia is in the set or not might settle this conversation.

Yeah I don't recall if it was ever officially stated but I think roughly 10 years ago there was that word out there saying that Disney's going to ban sl ave Leia soon. So the Black series only made 1 slace Leia. And I kinda regret not keep the box. I also got that beach towel thinking this will probably be like the last slave Leia product for a while.... And I was correct.

If you're going to change the return of the Jedi Poster at least put her in one of the outfits she wore in the film, like the dress the Ewoks made for her or better yet her rebel attire that she wears predominantly throughout the movie. let's be honest it's probably quietly banned they're not going to outright say it's banned but it's probably been banned all because a parent complained about the figure that's an excuse enough that to not produce the slave layout figure anymore

Ever since 1983 I also referred to Leia in this outfit as Jabba's Dancing Girl.

I remember seeing a Polaroid from the ROTJ costume department, the costume is on a hanger on a rack with a name card ‘Princess Leia Jabba’s Dancing Girl’. Not sure where the ‘Slave Leia’ name came from 🤷‍♂️

She doesn't dance, though. "Slave Leia" is just the quickest way to describe the character's look, kind of like "Baby Yoda." Sideshow referred to a statue as "Slave Leia" and some of the action figures say, "slave outfit." "Jabba's Prisoner" is also common. I recently found out the spaceship in the original Planet of the Apes wasn't initially called "The Icarus" in anything official. Someone came up with it years later, and it caught on.

MGM’s entire library is currently owned by Amazon, which explains why they are super aggressive about copyright Stryker for media clips!

@@missiletoad7015 It was, I believe Nerf held the rights to the name at the time. But like... what wouldn't have been a better alternative? They could have kept to the precedent set with Flipshot/Icarius and used an international name like Doublia, they could have picked a different synonym for either of the words with a better mouthfeel that was actually associated with DT (because whatever Scott says, 'mischief' was pretty solidly a Catra thing in vintage). They could have given her a new name entirely, something from 'ambiguous' or 'two-faced' or about being a spy. Hell, Scott's so fond of Greek mythology, why not Delphic? There were like fifty better options, he just got fixated on 'mischief' and decided it was a major theme of POP, for some reason.

@@lycaonpictus77 Just speaking from a brand and name recognition thing, sticking close to 'Double-Something', like Doublia or Doublina or Double Mischief makes some sense to me, and MOTU was always about puns and fun word-play names and stuff. "Icarius" is a reference I know, but I'm not familiar with "Delphic" and I doubt most other people are either, nor is it very fun, so I would stay away from it. Anyway, who cares, just my opinion :)

@@missiletoad7015 Nah, I would too, I was always in camp "Should've stuck with Doublia" lol, both for consistency with Icarius and the name recognition angle. My problem with Mischief is like 90% about the mouthfeel/visual aspect. Just doesn't roll off the tongue like Double Trouble does. Even something like Double Hubbub would have been better, sticking to those bilabial sounds, you know? & It just looks bad from a graphic design standpoint, all those round vowels next to sharp ones, but that's a lot more subjective.

My last Slave Leia figure I bought, I bought at Disney World's Hollywood Studios during Star Wars Weekends. She was the Leia from the Deleted Scenes and came with garb to put on or not. She sits in one of my Star Wars collections with Finn, Rey, Poe, Ben, Rose, a $200 Walmart Exclusive Oola and a Clone Trooper with Clone Troopers behind them. Leia and the Clone Trooper have Lightsabers and a story. My Slave Leia is now Luke's daughter and she wears the Bikini to feel the Force.

Yeah, it's total BS. Just look at ths twenty Vader figures released in the Black Series, versus the zero Slave Leias. I'm sick of the sanitised culture we're being fed these days.

Do we want SlaveLeia figs? Obviously a stupid question. All of us, TVC collectors want a new SLAVE Leia figure. A new one in Black Series would be fine too, but if they release one in that Epic line first, I'll go bananas and...probably go buy it, but yeah, we are overdue for a new SLAVE Leia

Swapping out Leia from the ROTJ with Hoth Leia is Taliban behavior. The only way she could be any more covered up would be her Boushh bounty hunter disguise. (But at least that would've been from the correct movie.)

Slave Leia is a ripoff of outfits in the French comic series Valerian, like a lot of other aspects of Star Wars.

@Rezikai Yeah, it's evolution, the retaining of successful mutations and the abandonment of the unsuccessful. Star Wars has other inspirations too, but it's definitely a child of Valerian. I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of Valerian where it flexes its original successes that Star Wars has moved on from, the weird aliens (Star Wars has plenty, Disney just never ever uses them.), the French sensibilities, the exotic retro-space look of everything, etc. Star Wars isn't gonna use Slave Leia, but Valerian could.

But that's not the reason Disney would stop making Slave Leia merchandise. If that were the case, they would've stopped making Lion King merchandise (as it's ripped off from Tezuka's Kimba the White Lion) and not be making a Mufasa movie.

@KasumiKenshirou Disney is welcome to keep doing it, but new Valerian stuff could also lean into it, considering it's the original source from which Star Wars took those designs from. Whoever has a right to, and a desire to use that imagery is welcome to do so. I'm pretty sure it all draws from middle eastern harem clothing anyways.

Totally agree. Used to spend thousands on figures. Now when they release anything relating to Mandalorian, Ashoka, and Acolytes I couldn’t care less. Disney forgot about their audience and made Star Wars uncool.
