    I'm with you on the USA-made front brother. Even though we won't get a USA-made version of the Heist, it's cool they're beefing it up a bit. Washers are definitely the way to go for ease of maintenance. But the KVT bearings are sweet if you want a fidgety knife. I love my Bel Air, and the clip is definitely a highlight over the older style you pointed out. That style is a literal pain to use to pull your knife outta your pocket with. FYI when you request a pocket clip replacement, it's 100% free, no charge for shipping. Oh and that Launch 13 is an especially sweet knife 😄 Love me some ZT of old. The new stuff doesn't quite slap like the old 'built like a tank' designs but the 0308, 0350, 0562 and 0393 are some lingering classics. Would love to see them getting back to making some sweet pocket tanks and doing cool collabs again! Please ZT! 🙏

Oh, and tip comes out a little in pocket sometimes. Needs a decent. Good size when working in public and my orange version is kind of a friendly color. I got a Bel air last week. It’s a hit! The Heist always was a bargain basement version of the Iridium. Never appealed to me at all, mostly because of the FRN and D2 steel. However, by going upmarket very slightly, with G10 and S35VN - now I'm very interested! Just a smart move by Kershaw, to fill the 'hole' as far as price point/ materials between the old Heist and the more premium versions of the Iridium, imho.

    My D2 Iridium doesn't hold an edge well at all, I'm constantly sharpening it... which is good practice but I just don't trust it so it never leaves the house. S35VN sounds great, but I'm with you on the washers vs bearings. Glad Benchmade is sticking with washers. Hope Kershaw listens and also makes these models in different blade shapes.

    Don’t sleep on the design element that gets those thumb studs out of the material path. 9:22 I don’t have a problem with studs for deployment, but I do have a problem with them when they hang up on material a half inch into the cut. That Leek design tucks that bad boy away against the handle. Solid.

    The Leek has never impressed me much beyond being Made in the USA, but the style of that mint chip finish is pretty slick. As for inexpensive, made in the USA, good blade steel, the Link with 20CV or now with Magnacut, is still a steal (even if the handle needs a little more grip height for the middle fingers).

    G'day Aaron, the Heist reminds me of the BM Freek, which I get on "very" well with, (and didn't have such a disproportionate "butterfly tax"), so no reason to think the upgraded Heist wouldn't be a great value choice. Also, not absolutely necessary, but concur, I reckon the understated accents are a nice touch. Personally, S30 and 35 are the sweet spot. Sure I'd find it interesting, though I've never found the need to "up the ante" in terms of price and sharpening of S20 or M390. Likely Magnacut will become more and more affordable as time goes on, ...... if that comes to fruition, a dabble with it is on the cards ; ) Pocket clips; well, why didnt they just do it right first time, or at least early on. In fairness, they are now addressing the error of their ways ; ) And furthermore, plenty of others could do with the same "catch up" strategy ; ) Cheers Duke.

    Not really. They're made in the same factory as Harnds and TwoSun (Yangjiang, China) You're just charged more for the Kershaw logo. This guy's an influencer that makes a cut off suggesting Kershaw because more people recognize an American name.

    Nice, I liked the look of the Heist over the standard Iridium. Now give us Micarta Kershaw and maybe 14C28N. S35VN is not a premium steel to me (nor is M390...) and I won't pay more for it pretending that it is. I'm happy to see Kershaw coming back and making some nice knives again. Now I wish they'd make a manual cross-bar locked Knockout. I loved that knife but I hate frame locks and assisted knives.

    Interested to know how the 154cpm compares to the 14c28n. Is there much of a difference in edge retention?

  • @barrybueler3356

    @barrybueler3356

    23 күн бұрын

    @@daveyboy6985 I’d say it not to much of a difference in the long run cpm 154’s edge lasts around 15% - 20% longer u get 40-80 more cuts before u lose a good working edge depending on your edc use. If edge retention is what you’re looking for the most I’d go with something like s110v,15v or K390 though I’m sure their are other great steels for that guessing google has them ranked somewhere.

    Used to be, they'd just mail out a bag of those safety replacements. If you didn't want to use it, just leave it off. If the knife's "loose" though... ug

    S35v VS M390? Edge retention is king so I prefer M390. Both require diamond sharpeners so the slight difference in ease of sharpening S35v makes little difference. However, both steels performance are dependent on hardness or heat treat so Rockwell hardness will dictate which steel to choose, all things being equal I’d take the M390..

    Gideon, can you please tell me, if I'm correct in my original choice of the Heist vs. the Iridium because it was on washers vs. KVD Ball bearings. My thoughts were, since I know I'm not one for pulling apart my knives and servicing them like others, washers would be a better choice for durability and carefree EDC use. Was I wrong?

    Agreed they should be made in America, and badged as such..d2 seems to be the benchmark in the Chinese made..and why do they still use 8cr13mov In the cheap ones?!? They really should jump up to 9cr at the very least! 10cr15comov would be optimal considering that's their version of vg 10,but good on them for offering actual premium steel like s35vn..kershaw is definitely stepping up. Already have a launch in magnacut, and love it!!

    As soon as you said Kershaw put Bearing in the Heist I knew it had to made in China , Bearings are a Down Grade to me I can put a set of Bearings between two 2x4s and the blade will still be drop shutty ,all that tells me is China still has Problems with their Tolerances , but thats just Me . I'm not a fan of the Leek , but I do still have one that I bought from a Nuttin Fancy recommendation, WoW that brings back some memories..🤣😅 Definitely take my Dividend over the Leek ....👍🖖

    There are a handful of companies now giving Benchmade a real run for the money. I love Axis/Crossbar locks but Benchmade prices and designs are really pushing me and other users to other options like these. I have the Scharade budget crossbar knife and its great. Sog XR lock is also pretty good and the new Ganzo/FB models with a crossbar lock and bearing are very nice budget options. I also see SRM, Beshtech, Kansept and other retrofitting models with the crossbar lock.
