I think a good chassis clean and rust proof treatment should be near the top of the list.

I am still out on that one. Used Dinitrol for a few years and that's pretty good. Lanoguard last year, but still have not seen an old Landy use it long-term!

The first things I would do, if I had to do it again, are to change the clutch pedal spring, EGR delete and Climair wind deflectors, which are all cheap to do. Then swap all of the lights for LED, a remap and as many security, rust and sound proofing mods as I could afford 😁

I would be inclined to try and keep the vehicle as original looking as possible. Things I have done include: Engine work by Alive Tuning, providing me with over 200 bhp. Suspension replacement (standard height) by Alive Tuning. Amazed at the difference that made to the ride of the vehicle. Change out transfer box ratios to that of the Discovery. Made motorway driving much more relaxed. 18” Boost alloy wheels with BFG. A subtle upgrade which I don’t regret. Interior wise. The only difference from new. Soundproofing and partial removal of the bulkhead using the MUD modification. Also MUD extended seat runners. I do like the Lucari interior you opted for but I wonder if it will date quicker than the original. The best thing I did was buy the Grenadier which has given me everything I desired of my Defender. My Grenadier makes me still feel very much linked to my 300 Tdi and subsequent Td5. Finally. Surprised you don’t have at least double the subscribers. You do a great job and I can think of nothing on which you need to improve.

I think door and bonnet hinges are a good one. Sadly the things that make land rovers easy to work on also makes them easier to steel.

In the USA one of the best theft proof mods are manual transmission (Rover dive - it confuses the criminal) and RHD. Ofc a kill switch and gps tracking with accelerometers are a plus.

Great vid, thanks. I too love the Disco 5. But, am worried about the potential breakdowns. Also, as good and upmarket this car is, I don't like some of the cheap plasticy trim in some area. (The driver's seat trim has cracked and is coming away. Oh, and those USELESS clips which are supposed to hold the third seat row belts out of the way of the sliding tonneau cover. Doh!

The most important thing I had done when I bought my 110 new in 2015 was to have it Waxoyled before I took delivery and redone every year for the first five years.

I don't drive huge distances in my Defender and I do like them in their original spec so all I have done to it is lights and security along with an improved steering damper to stop it trying to throw me into the ditch! Thanks for your vids.

Definitely number one is security, no question. People who spend thousands on winches, big wheels tires, roof tents, sounds systems etc., and no additional security. I recommend a removable steering wheel and a clutch claw (or box) as a minimum. When parked up at home I also fit a heavy duty Denver boot as well. Obviously this won’t stop the vehicle being stolen if a thief really wants it, but it’s all a deterrent.

In the UK security essential, in another country nothing really, I like the ruggedness, I spend money on keeping it in good shape and working well rather than accessories. I did transform ours from a panel van to having back sliding windows and benches because my wife asked so, also put Exmoor Trim seat covers as when we were living in Spain with our UK Landy we were sweating our legs on the original seats, put a MUD tunnel tray to hold cups and bottles as my wife wanted one, see all are essential to my wife not really for me, I am quite pleased at having put all around LED lights so they work every day and not one day yes and two days no as the original ones.

Galvanised Chassis and a pedal box security. I would not buy a Defender that has a CPU, but rather a 300tdi. Keep it original and not add chavy stuff. It is a Defender after all. Be able to hose it out and not worry about mud and scratches. Keep original wheels as they cut through deep snow and mud. It is a Defender after all. Did I say that already ?. Well, yeah, its a Defender.
