If Dammit Was A Country Ballad (Y'allternative Cover)
Музыка
One of the biggest (and most covered, maybe?) Blink 182 songs gets the Alex Melton treatment this week - stick around to the after show for some fun drum production insights. Thanks guys!

As a musician you have to give so much respect to this guy.
Turning early like Pop-Punk Blink into, not just a country ballad, but a WALTZ country ballad is absolutely incredible.
@jampetson

It’s in 6/8. A waltz is in 3/4. But I can see the confusion.

I mean, the feel is the same just notated differently, 6/8 creates more a movement and drive to the song over a waltz style in 3/4 which is a little floatier and spacey.

The switch from 4/4 to 3/4 is amazing. Well done.

He specifically calls out a swung-6/8 timing; can be reduced to 3/4, but it's 6/8 per meter
Every cover feels like an original with how much character Alex puts into it. Well done!
Alexandra Kay also did an amazing country version of dammit too. Both of them are amazing! Great job Alex!

I came into the comments to mention this too!
Your country covers were what I first came across, and they still may be my favorite thing you do. This is nice and smooth, great lazy sunday afternoon listening.
I like how Alex has been picking up where the Punk Goes... series left off, doing a consistently better job of it, AND doing the inverse with stuff like this while absolutely killing it there too.
its hard to explain, but the feeling I experience between the chorus to the verse is so incredibly powerful in this version. likes its being magnified.
Big Blink fan here, and that was incredible! The chorus soars. Love it. A country cover of Look What Happened by Less Than Jake would be great... 😁

This was my favorite song 25 years ago when I was a wild skating middle schooler 🤙🏻 Now that I’m a lame 40 year old this hits differently but still somehow the same! 🙏🏻
Always delivering the best blink covers! PS: how come the lyrics on Dammit keep getting deeper and sadder every day?! 😢 A timeless classic.

This sounds like how the song feels in my soul.
A therapeutic take on my favourite childhood song. Love how Alex changes the emphasis off key angsty passages, bringing a sense of uplift and hope. This song feels like a big hug.
I love your country ballads. My favorites. An all country album would be amazing. Oh I just saw your new album with all the country covers. Listening now 😊
It's sunday night in my side of the world, sudden heavy outpour of rain, just about to put my son to bed..this then came out in my suggested vids and it didnt disappoint, such a fit to the whole scene i described too. Awesome cover as always.
absolutely loved this treatment, added a whole lot of depth to the original
This is some of your best stuff. I'm really impressed by the melody of the verses being on the back note of the swing beat in a 6/8 signature - effectively being on beats 6 and 9 in a 9/16, which is absolutely wild. Such a fresh take on a well-loved tune. Outstanding work.
y'all......dang thats pretty good son
7:36 - This freeze frame actually fits the mood of this song well. It was meant to be! Always appreciate your work and the care into each song. 👍
It would be awesome if they brought you along on a tour and did a few renditions of their songs at least as an opener or intermission. You've covered so many!
I've never really liked country music, and then Alex started doing covers of my childhood songs. I still don't like country music, but I can jam to his covers all day long.

One of the marks of a good song is that it can be covered cross genre. If a punk band covers a pop song and it’s actually good, I know it’s because the original had something good baked into it.

Man, phenomenal job on this song!! I started listening to Blink when I was a young teen in the mid 90's.
Honestly this just proves that Blink were bona fide brilliant song writers. Just high quality chord progressions, lyrics, pacing, etc. Alex has obviously done an amazing job to add to it and create something new.

That was excellent. You've turned a teenage anthem into something I could happily listen to... I guess this is this song growing up!
Between the original, the After Dark version for when the depression is feeling spicy, and now this BANGER for when I need to yeehaw my mood back to normal I think I finally have all my bases covered. Thank you Alex! 💙

Don't forget the outstanding Alexandra Kay version
Huge Blink fan, and i love all of Alex’s reimaginings of their songs, and when he does other songs in the style of Blink. He is an AMAZING musician!!
Man you achieved everything you wanted to and more with this. All your covers and genre fusions demonstrate total dedication and a nuanced commitment to the craft. And on top of that you're also a raw talent. Love it.
Alex brings out a new meaning in his alternative covers. I love it!
I really appreciate the "how it was made" section at the end. Great cover as always
Bryant Roses also did a Dammint ya’llternative cover which is really good. That one’s the bluegrass version whule Alex’s is the CME version, both amazing❤
Dude! Thank you so much for going into more detail with your mixing process, i’m a huge fan of getting to hear musicians that I really respect going through their creative process, I appreciate that you don’t necessarily want to give away all of your tricks and secrets, but I really enjoyed hearing you talk about how you modified the mix wave plug-in. I recently invested in that same kit and absolutely can’t wait to try more creative uses of that library after hearing this! As always, phenomenal job.
The love and care you put into this is so apparent! Strong work!
This is incredible! The feeling, the sound, the energy.... Congratulations Alex, truly a work of art!
You do really good work. Thank you for posting these for all of us to enjoy
this cover just blew me away, you're getting better and better with each new song you release. keep it up man
If I could go back 7 years to my first dance at my wedding, I would try to convince my wife that this should be it!!! Maybe I’ll re-visit if (when) we renew our vows.

This is so impressive man! It sounds like blink and the sad country songs of the 90’s I grew up loving. Really feels like it tells the rest of the story!
This IS the best cover and one of my new favorite songs. Wow, man. Nicely done!
Literal chills. You killed it dude. Keep it up
Superb big man, you're videos are tremendous!
Fantastic rendition! Loved it!
You and your damn covers! Always amazing. Thanks for this beautiful rendition.
I can def see the pinegrove acoustic/room tone influence. I love those performances
Definitely hear the Pinegrove influence here. So happy to hear more praise for them!
Great time sig, great arrangement, great bass line and the clever use of capos for both guitars in both songs. This song is just a great cover...as per usual
You have a gift for this and I'm here for it all the way.
This really really works. Also a big YES to this video format.
LOL the slow zoom at the end. Perfection.
Always truly amazing work!
Man you have a great talent for turning these songs into virtually new ones.
Absolutely magical
That ending... powerful feel!!! wow!
Alex this is incredible. I genuinely think you're one of the most talented people on earth!
That was cool man! Thanks for the Pinegrove tip! Love them and haven’t seen that video.
IMO, this is your best one yet. Bravo!
This works way too well! This is great, thank you
You never fail to impress
Wow, just wow! This was amazing!!!
Woah. Excellent. Right in the feelings, and really does spin how you interpret the 'story' of the song as you listen. Really cool stuff.

The freeze frame at the end😂 nice work once again and I really enjoy the arrangement breakdown at the end.
Awesome job, per usual, Alex! Loved it.
Love the background info on what goes into these.
The section explaining the approach is just as amazing as the song itself
You changed the time signature this is seriously impressive
Not only does the care you’re taking with this really cool, but you mentioned Pinegrove. Much love from Montana. 🏴☠️
I love the pace of this cover!
This is just beautiful! Nothing else needs to be said 👌
Dude, this is smooth.
To be honest I loved the whole thing but the thing that woke me out of it and made me realize I had to mash that like button was the relatability of having a camera fall out at the end and just rolling with it
this was amazing!
Forget the epicness of the song, that slow push into the frozen frame at the end of this video had me rolling! That is freaking GOLD
Thanks Alex
Love it!
Good God. youve got all this talent and you dont waste it. All the applause and respect.

i love this one! I really enjoy these explanations at the end. Even if I don't know what your talking about, you make me feel like I do 😅
First listen Friday. This tune has been in my head all weekend! So good
If i never heard of Blink before i would've thought Dammit was really a country ballad like this
I love this
I like the explanation after the video vs in the beginning much better. Great job!
This was dope bro 💯🤙🏻🤙🏻
Absolutely brilliant.
Waited for this a long time 🥳 Edit: I really liked that you put time into explaining the feel and stuff of the song. It makes the video has so much more body.
Yet another banger thats gunna be on repeat
been waiting for this one for a long time 🙏
Ngl this arrangement is actually incredible, completely tranforms the song.
Not really a country fan here, but my mom is, so I've come to like some songs here and there. Gotta say that this sounds like a great cover. The lyrics really work well for this rendition. And the way the vocals and feel are conveyed is really great.
I love that I never know what to expect from each new video. Obviously, the music will be incredible, but will there be a skit, or a song breakdown, or an announcement, or something else!? My man keeps rockin and keeps 'em guessing.
Dude, i love amperland so much. that video is amazing for that feel
