ay buhay pa yan lumang building mag mula 50!s kasi 1949 na ako pinanganak at diyan kami lumaki hindi namin alam panciteria pala may mga naktira diyan mga chinese din at lagi kaming dumadaan dyan sa tulay at noong 1950 naglalaro kami sa rontonda at mayroon pang slide noong at ang binondo chruch wala pang ati dahil bomba ng japanese nakaka home sick naman salamat po you bring back all my youth memories

On the Ides O'Racca building, I was surprised to find out that the original owner failed to pay the bank loan used in building it and was later sold to a Japanese who converted it to a candy factory. Then came WWII, when it housed Japanese soldiers , then used by American troops before confiscation by our government and eventually sold to a private firm. It seems the people associated with this building ran into bad luck right from the beginning. I was more surprised to discover that there is a biblical word Raca, which means worthless or empty! Notwithstanding all these unfortunate events, I hope it gets restored and sees better days, years even, ahead. May Lady Luck finally smile upon this structure and her owner.

Salamat Boss Fern. Kahit ako Boss Fern naamaze dyan sa binondo divisoria at tondo sa mga nakikita kong lumang bahay marami dyan eh khit sa bandang sa Sta.Cruz marami din lumang bahay. Naku, namiss ko tuloy Divisoria madalas din ako mamili nuon jan.

Both buildings definitely deserve to be saved/restored but it seems to me someone could've done that a long time ago. The advanced state of decay tells me that the current owners are deliberately letting them both rot away to make it easier (and cheaper) to demolish later. Money is the driving force here. The owners are angling for a better deal either by selling them or putting something up in their place. Besides, there's no way they'll pay tons of money to restore them and then go bankrupt because there's no business purpose for the buildings.

hala hindi ko nahalata na old houses yung bahay diyan sa santo cristo. lagi lang ako nadadaanan dati pero need ko bilisan kase andaming tao and vendors sa street.

At di ko noon pinapansin ang building na yan dati naalala ko lang puro mga pwesto at tindahan ang sa ibaba. Di mo kasi mapansin ang building noon kasi panay ang iwas mo sa putik ng kalsada at kadalasan pa ay puro sasakyan. Nakita ko yan dati Papunta sko binondo. Kaka awa yung structure. Sana ma save ng manila government. Yung I DES O’ RACCA kitako n yan noon high school pa ako. Nasabi ko noon, pag tumingin ka sa taas ang ganda ng divisoria. Kasi nga yung mga old houses 2 nd floor at yang blg.nayan mar gargoyle pa!

Sana lahat ng may relevant historical sites or buildings, i preserve ng NGO or LGU, sayang kasi, para may makita ng mga future generations...

That house/structure is well over 100 years old! It's a pity and unfortunate no one cared enough for it. It's a business decision I'm sure. They look unsafe, with the crumbling floors and all, the decision whether to restore or not will depend on how much it will cost and how to recoup the cost. Nevertheless, thank you for sharing and showing us the glory and magnificence of old Manila.

That San Fernando bridge is rich in history. Its original name is Baybay bridge built in 1796. Baybay Bridge is significant to the Chinese because it was where the early immigrants - our Chinese ancestors - came on shore after quarantine on Engineer Island (now Baseco). On the spot where they came ashore now stands the BDO building and the fire station.

It’s really sad those old buildings in Manila were never taken care of by the previous administration. The Filipino people didn’t give a crap of history. A lot of these Manila Art Deco Buildings we’re still existing in the American Architectures in both New York and Chicago coz they love and value history. In spite of modern urbanization they were able to integrate the new from the old!🥰

Macanese way of cooking pansit is better than Cantonese's.A bit more oily but tastes better.

Ang masarap sa Manila there are so many Spanish era and prewar buildings to see, we can walk and find these treasures and magiging time machine mode tayo as we pass by. Malungkot lang na ang sistema sa bansa walang masyadong pagmamahal sa heritage due to urbanization.

Nakaka frustrate talaga na makita mong napabayaan na nga ng may-ari ang bahay or establishment, hindi man lang din tumulong ang ahensyang dapat namamahala sa mga makasaysayang bahay o establishment. 😩

The only thing that we can do is to imform these goverment agencies the National Historical Commision of the Philippines and National Commision for Culture and the Arts to save protect preserve and do the conservation on this neglected properties as far as I know these goverment agencies have a rights to take over historical sites and do the conservation on cultural properties if this property has been mention in Noli Mi Tangere and a place where Rizal took his meal of Noodle since any place or site that has been part of Rizal's life is a cultural Treasure that have to protected and preserve for all Filipinos and future generations

The fate of Ides O'Racca is indeed sad. I still do hope that the Chinese holding firm (Anchorland Holdings) which currently owns the site turns it into something interesting, never to consider bulldozing it down to pave way for a new building as an option because like the Calvo Bldg. in Escolta, the building itself is one if the few remaining Art Deco style buildings in Manila that still tests the harshness of time and weather. However, I am deeply sad on what happened to the Panciteria in later times. I can imagine how excuisite the Chinese dishes served inside of its wooden walls back then. Back in the Spanish Era, the Chinese offered the cheapest food to the Filipinos that is why many students flocked the area at lunch despite their meager allowance.

Sir sa 10:42 nasabi mo "national artist" instead of "national hero", referring to Dr. Jose Rizal, haha. Sa pagod na po siguro ng paglalakad ninyo. Anyway, sir, you might want to visit the Most Holy Trinity Parish in Balic-Balic, Sampaloc, Manila. It used to be part of a cemetery. Huge part of Sampaloc was owned by the Legarda's. Their ancestral house is still there, fondly called "Ang Gubat", located at Sobriedad Street, almost at the back of the Most Holy Trinity Parish. I hope you can also discover other old houses in that area that are well-maintained.
