Identity Politics | What does it even mean?

Since the 1980s, the traditional views of the left (dominated by Marxist parties) were challenged by the New Left and Post-Modernism. This led to the emergence of issue-based identity politics that was supported by civil society, NGOs, and also scores of young people educated in the West in the last three decades. This new politics has had a huge influence, not in fracturing and destroying the left in the West but also in impacting struggles in Pakistan.
In this video, I examine three core themes of identity politics - axis of privilege, authenticity, and anti-essentialism - and show how these ideas result in a mass of interminable self-contradictions and self-defeating strategies.

you answered it. if you try to take any action the contradiction doesnt let you do anything. thats why identity politics is best suited to online debates only

What is it with academic videos about subjects with such a low audio volume? This is like the 4th video on the subject where I have my monitors all the way up to the limit and it's still very low.

It means there is little if any substance to the candidate, it's all about appearances and that pretty much describes the US system. It's all bought and paid for anyway.

I noticed that hardly anyone calls them self an adherent to “identity politics” or an “identity politician” etc. The term is often used for an ambiguous other, I first noticed the term being used in left-ish groupings. I think it’s a term not worth using since it has no real group behind it. Rather I see the term used to often dismiss non economist issues: race, gender, etc, by that I mean the old quasi Leninist groups of all shades for the most part failed to fight for all people’s democratic rights etc. Some quasi Leninist groups still are openly anti gay / trans. The hard left largely failed in the advanced diversified complex economies in imperialist nations follow WW2. The hard left, couldn’t formulate the new emerging changes in society and continued to masquerade in the prewar rhetoric. Quasi marxists hate on anything not in the canonical tradition. They will eschew post modern writing as a whole but praise Hegel’s gibberish. Unfortunately middle class professionals (the Leninist project) has failed. Workers can only liberate themselves as a class. Our class if more complex than professional politicos can represent in writing etc. the profession of turning class war into books creates areas where some people with economic interests dig them selves in and fight off new ideas and others who can survive economically in a new niche. Either way professional writers of all shades are suspicious in intention.

LGB and T are two separate things, they should be because Gender Identity and Identity politics is a whole different issue , LGB's don't wanna be bothered with it ! Rationally LGB's should be separated from T because they don't have Gender crisis, they can't speak or do activism or anything on behalf of Ts
