Hey guys!
This is the second part of my Iden Versio cosplay videos. You'll find #1 here: • E-11 Imperial Blaster ...
In this part of my video collaboration with Electronic Arts, I'm showing you how I made the flight suit and the Inferno Squad armor for my Iden Versio costume (she is the protagonist from the single player campaign in EA Star Wars Battlefront 2). I’m trying to keep the costs low and work only with basic tools and materials for this project. So far I've spent around 40$ in total for this part (not counting the boots). I mainly used black heavy jeans fabric for the suit and high density EVA foam for the armor. More in the video!
Have fun crafting!
-Svetlana

yeah, when I think about how much some costumes cost to put together/commission, this is a bargain ( even if labor/time isn't included in the price )- and it looks fantastic too.

Yeah, it's literally just a bit of fabric and some foam + colors. This is not counting the work hours of course. When I was doing a lot of Worbla costumes, the materials went way over budget but with foam it's actually really affordable.

Keep in mind that commissioners have to charge for research, experiments, work hours and all that extra stuff too. The material costs are always the smallest part in this equation.

Your work on this is absolutely amazing! I love that you were able to show that you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars and have complicated equipment to make such a beautiful piece. I can honestly say as a member of the 501st that your armor is better than mine. You have inspired me to try to recreate my own armor this way and will be purchasing your books to help with that. Always amazes me the extra equipment you have to be able to turn out such great looking gear (laser cutter, embroidery machine, etc). Those items alone cost more than the materials used to craft the costume. If you have the opportunity, invest in a vac-u-form machine. That way you could use your foam pieces as a template and get one solid piece of chest armor (plus you don't have to worry about ever damaging the foam, and always have it as a back up).

There is actually a better solution for the magazine, and one found WITHIN history. A reverse holster. A lot of Civil War officers had a holster where the butt of the gun faced forward rather than backward. This meant that the grip was on the correct side of the body, but you would have to turn your hand around (palm outward) to draw the firearm. I know it sounds wacky, byut it's actually a fairly easy draw, and MUCH faster than drawing awkwardly from the wrong side of the body and switching hands. I know, that's not what they did. Just makes me wonder, with the historical precedent, and the issue of the magazine, WHY NOT!?

The holster being on the left makes perfect sense because the gun used to make the E-11 Blaster was a British Sterling which had the magazine sticking out of the left side, as you know when you made yours. Well you can't have a right side holster with a left side magazine sticking out.

Girl you’re killing me. I got really excited because I thought you’d break away from your typical tools. I love your costumes and videos, but you definitely didn’t create a cheap costume. Airbrush machine, computer and printer for patterns, embroidery machine... I know they all have alternatives but I wish you would have used the alternatives as a bit of a challenge this time. But, you’re still the premier cosplayer and you’ve definitely created another breathtaking costume

Thanks a lot for your feedback and your kind words. However I assume that everybody owns a computer and a printer or can at least borrow one. You'll get a good airbrush already for 80$, which less money than you would have to spent for a good sewing machine. Additionally you surely can totally just use a brush. And as I mentioned in the comments, you can totally buy the patches online. The fancy tools I've mentioned are my 3D printer, laser cutter or vacuum forming machine and I didn't used any of them. :)

Stormtoopers have their guns on the left hand side as well, it's because of the magazine indeed. Those english Sterling submachine guns were never intended to be held in a holster.

Hey Guys :) i want to build the sword Quel'Delar (you'll find images via google :x) and i'd love to include the glowing effect on the runes down the center... does anyone know a good way to do that? i thought about having a central layer with a wooden rod for stability and above that a cavitiy for the leds+diffusion under an upper layer with holes for the rune shapes... but i'm kinda worried about it falling apart when done this way

KamuiCosplay thank you guys ^.^ i actually had watched that twice or so, but i still managed to miss the central ideas :l^^ i'll totally copy putting a wooden board as central layer :D though i'll probably replace the cast edges by foam, because i don't need them to glow :x^^ do you still remember how you did the glowing crystal in the pommel? is it also resin cast?
