IDE TO SATA HDD / SSD - PS2 SLIM INSTALL

⚠️ERRATUM⚠️
➡️AN OBVIOUS THING TO SAY, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IN ANY WAY FOR ANY MALFUNCTION OR ANYTHING WHEN YOU DO THIS INSTALLATION
➡️I HAVE MADE SOME MISTAKE IN THIS VIDEO SORRY FOR THAT
➡️SOME BIG HARD DISK DRIVE NEED MORE POWER, SO YOU NEED TO PLUG 5V TO USB POWER,
THE 5V REGULATOR I USE IN THIS VIDEO DOESN'T EMIT ENOUGH CURRENT.
⚠️ERRATUM 2⚠️
➡️WE ARE TALKING ABOUT 100PF CAPACITORS (AND NOT 100µF) .
In this video I show you how with the PS2 Flex IDE Resurrector you can install an IDE to SATA adapter.
Sorry for the brightness on the video, I'm using a new phone, and I haven't found the right settings yet
The IDE to SATA converter I used:

    I use the 5v on the top of the motherboard, because the one on the bottom has a protection circuit that blows a fuse if you ask too much current to the regulator using a hard drive 😉

    @@Gusse Yes I figured as much lol, I was just wondering if you knew why. Full disclosure I'm making a portable using this kind of HDD loading, and I'm trying to gather as much knowledge as I can. I actually tried this mod a several years ago, using the exact same SATA bridge device as well, just without the benefit of your flex cable. The system interfaced with the device, and I was able to load and play KH2 precisely once... And then it just stopped working. Mayhaps this was the reason? And had I known to put those CAPs in place, it might have worked more that just the once? I don't suppose that was what happened before you figured out to add the CAPs?

  • @Gusse

    @Gusse

    @@AngelArm1110 I'm not the person who discovered that capacitors were needed in these places. I just know that it's the fruit of empirical testing for no apparent reason. Capacitors help stabilize signals for chips, which are of very average quality but readily available and very inexpensive. Other boards apart from Maxwell chips don't need these capacitors. Also looking at ide to SD boards, capacitors are present and this is potentially only a prerequisite of control chips, and for certain reasons. Also the original mod released a few years ago and which has become hard to find uses more capacitors on its circuit to certainly stabilize electronic fluctuations.

    @Stabz47 I always recommend the SATA mod to go beyond 128Gb at a reasonable cost. But you can make the mod with iFlash SATA to get around the 128Gb limit. You need to make a wire bridge to connect the iFlash with ide resurrector or make the mod directly without ide resurrector using the mapping diagrams on the net for wiring.
