It is great piece of journalism... just that getting feedback from at least 2 experts instead of just 1, would have added some balance and weight to the expert opinions

Public sector banks are not only making large profits but also providing financial resources to very marginal person of our country. Once public sector banks were used to provide jobs to large number of people but today even they are not able to provide new vacancies. This govt is total failure in economic front and belive me economy of our country is in very bad position.

Psbs are deep rooted in rural india. Its very difficult to gain financial inclusion after privatisation. Take example of UCO bank.. Uco bank is a leading bank of east India where it covers north east part and rural areas. Illiterate people cannot enter private banks. Moreover banks are profit making organization which generate huge revenue for government

the best model is what Latha Venkatesh suggested. One of rare occasions where a journalist made a good point. Privatize other banks and keep SBI Public. SBI over the years has shown remarkable performance despite being PSB in terms of customer service, branch network and technology adaptation. This is the only model govt. should adopt. The days where banking is a social obligation are gone. Our country cannot grow with these inefficient PSBs.

Mr Brajesh kindly study the YOY Operating profits and growth of PSB, Also see how much PLI i.e. performance linked incentives each public banks got. SBI just got 10 whereas other PSBs got 15. So, update your knowledge and analyse the data first.

Small accounts sould be handled by special subsidiary of big banks and parent focus on commercial and international transactions and compete with intl & pvt banks. Mergers are always the loss of one party while profitable to other party. The major motives to do mergers, was to safeguard a loss making firm by associating it with a profit making firm. By this method small firm gets the access to the technology and assets of big firm while big firms gets the expansion of it's existing business. Not being a leftist here, Merger has never been profitable in terms of Banking. Not even in a developed country like USA

@@operacurrently2060 do you know that privatisation will increase the gap between rich and poor. Only few people will control the nation. I recommend you to study the concept of singapore and any other developed countries you will realise that most of the imp organisations belongs to gov. The profit earned by the gov. Can be used to make the life of poor better and give facilities they need but collecting tax will not accumulate much corpus to do so.
