35 years of riding dirt out east here, rough terrain and what I thought was steep. Headed to the sawtooths this summer. Ain't no way for me and this trail lol!! Great video man

Outstanding photography, outstanding riding skills, overall A Plus. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the fantastic footage! I appreciate your maturity to be able to talk about the seriousness and dangers on a trail like this. If you are aware and focused on the trail 15-20' ahead of you, you're probably in good shape. If you get caught up in your head, tension and nerves can cause a serious mistake. The girl looking around for the drone made me more nervous than anything. lol

Thanks for commenting! Yeah, on a regular trail I get kicked sideways on a regular basis. That’s just not acceptable on this trail so you really have to be careful.
Fantastic scenery and great trail! No way I'd have a go at that one, not good with heights and target fixation would do me in I'm afraid! The GoPro footage would be spectacular though...
I like how u call it a “high consequence trail”! Awsome video and who ever operated the drone did an excellent job!
You are crazy for doing this again. I’m a risk taker by nature but this has me nervous just watching it.

Yeah, the trails we have in Iowa are amazing. Iowa is so mountainous! :D
I rode this trail back in August 2005. There are a couple of spots where you're not really "riding" as much as you're "praying" to make it around the corner. The drone footage definitely takes the experience to a whole new level! This trail was blasted out of the granite rock faces back in the 1930's by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) as I understand it. I don't know why it was built other than for gold mining access perhaps. Only a fool would take a pack string of horses or mules down it as there isn't really any room for a "rodeo" or space enough for pack boxes to pass in a lot of places. There are still old drill bits stuck in the hillsides in strategic places to stabilize the trail to keep it from sliding away down into the river. I specifically recall one spot where the trail base of rock had about a 3-4" opening cut through it from where water flowed down the rock face and probably still flows through it during rainy times. You could see clear down to the rocks next to the river as your tire rolled over that gap. No biggie, it's only 100 drop! When we got back to the trailhead it took a while to get my butt to let loose of the seat foam! It was one of those EPIC trail rides you'll remember forever! Thanks for doing that video, it's awesome!

I am 76, and in my younger days I would have done that trail, but the little man that has been in my head for years telling me NOT to do stuff, and being ignored, is now being listened to. It is an awesome trail. Many years ago, before Mt St Helens blew up, I scouted out a nice trail. I then contacted 3 friends that rode dirt bikes, and made date to do it together. All of these guys were above me in ability. One of them would change his countershaft sprocket to change his gearing. He asked how he should gear, I told him to put on the lowest gearing that he had. He looked at me over the top of his glasses, you know the look, and I replied, "You will never get out of second gear today!" All three of them were off like a shot, and at every fork in the trail they would be waiting for me. I would point which way to go, and again they were off like a shot. We had to cross a fairly deep creek, and one of them dumped it and hydro-locked his engine. I was riding an XT500, and I had no trouble with the creek. It took us about 30 minutes to get his bike (2 stroke) running. The map showed five 180 degree switchbacks, BUT, there were 33 of them. Here is where my 500 thumper would shine. Going up, I would lean back and just blip the throttle, and lift the front wheel and set it on the next part of the trail. Those 2 stroke race bikes could not do that. I was actually waiting for them. LOL The trail went for about 8 miles, and then we had to turn around and go back. We could have taken a Forest Service road back to the trucks, but we were on the other side of the mountain, and it would have been over 100 miles. Besides that, where would the sport be in doing that? We had no issues going back. I would have to shut my bike off and get off and drag the front end around on every switchback. They did too though. We had no trouble with the creek on the return trip. All 3 of the guys said that this trail was the most fun that they had had in years. Sadly, that trail is now covered with several feet of volcanic ash. It had some vertical drops too, but I don't remember it being as bad as this Idaho trail.
Super cool!
Awesome! On a two stroke as well!! Thank you!

Great video content with the pairing of the riding video and drone footage - that is setting you apart a bit from other channels. One a side note, its amazing what just a video title can do for views apparently - "terrifying" and "deadly". Your only other videos that have this many views are product reviews as far as I can see. Nice work. The trail and terrain sells itself...
@RacerRed

ha ha, youtube is a balance of finding what an audience wants and supplying it. If the video sucked and didn't execute on the promises in the title it would get no watch time, no likes, and would not be seen by very many people.

That is freaking insane. I am have height fobia, so that trail is definitively out of my reach, but still awesome. I will go out of the cliff in the first 100 meters. I feel like jumping anytime I am in a high place. Irrational, but true. I guess that is the fastest way to low altitude.

its the objects on the hillside that freak me out, one treestump or bolder caught on the left bar and you would be gone for sure. I did a jeep trail like that once out in the back of canyon lake ca after putting 33's on my XJ, I made it through but I would never do it again.

This is the number one danger in my opinion. When doing a trail like this you have to ride close to the edge to be safer some times. One rock hitting your bars or pegs could send you off the edge.

Definitely a challenge to your level of concentration. Bike has to be completely sorted before setting out. Any trail can be dangerous. It’s how you approach it.
