As long as the tire has been deflated, there is no pressure to shoot the ring off, so no need for putting those two tires in your way. I was trained by guys who have done it for years, and have done plenty of my own. Just tryin ta spread some info! :)

Used to do a few of these, on the roadside. Best to avoid damaging the ring, as that makes them more dangerous to reassemble. I used to put three pieces of chain around rim through wheel using D shackles to join each piece. Then blow them up with a old style hand plunger pump - took a long time, and was a good workout, especially with frazzled nerves waiting for one to pop, never did though - lucky. The old rims make good bases for grinders etc in the workshop, and I even saw one made into a forge. Thanks for sharing Jon

Yall are just real people. Down to earth people. People may say that ya'll don't have much, I say that ya'll have a hillbilly heaven going on there. Thats how my husband and myself wanted to live our lives. Now I think our time is over for that. He is 70 and I am 57. So live the dream for us, will you? We will live it through ya'll. Be blessed in the Lord . May his face shine apon you and give you peace.

These are not "TRUE" split-rims, these are lock-ring rims. Firestone RH-5 rims are the TRUE "widowmaker" rims.

I was raised and worked in around the tire business my whole life and you are right BUT I did see a guy get his Jaw broke with this style of lock ring type and my Step dad worked for KTS Tire and seen one of his co-workers get killed by the type you are talking about.

if you take the base off the hiighlift jack the force can be concentrated on the bead. I use log chains at 3 positions when inflating to keep that split ring safe. also i ude a clip on air chuck

Here's one of those tires "going off"! Mechanic thrown in air as overinflated truck tire explodes / Jeté en l'air par l'explosion d'un pneu And then, in a perfect world, you have one of these to finish the job. The Blue Cobra is so easy to use even a girl can do it!! Take care Kev!

2 days ago while out getting the. spread ready for the cabin thought my fuel pump went out i cut up some logs and made jack stands use what ya got lol. and i did tires for yrs we would try to please the farmers so we were stuck doing these often on grain trucks but did use the cage man some of the rust that holds the ring together takes a little of the rim lol. be safe my friend. charles edward

+Daehawk I grew up around the tire business and I remember as a kid my Grandpa coming home one day and telling me that a Ol' boy at KTS Tire had pretty much took his head off airing one up.

I have the type of rim shown in the video, and I just need to ad air to the tire. Is there any danger in that? The wheel is already mounted to the vehicle, it just has low tire pressure from sitting for a while.

No you can just add air really these are split ring not split wheels so they are safer. More then anything just a real good knuckle and shin breaker when dismounting
