    The EVO 4 was my introduction to Audient (well, more like the ASP4816 at my local college, but I never used it for my personal projects). I was coming from a Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen 2 and wanted to upgrade. I originally got the EVO 4 due to its minimalistic look and Smartgain; I never knew how to set the levels properly, as I was beginning to work with audio interfaces. Overtime, I figured out how to set the gain on my own and didn't really need it (it is useful if you're your own engineer, though). The sound I got from them were good, but I always needed to use a Fethead for my SM7B, as it sounded better with less noise. I had doubted whether 58dB really was enough to power it. I decided that I was sticking with the Audient brand, and decided to finally bite the bullet and upgrade to the iD4. Let me just say, it was the best decision. The 58dB gain range on the iD4 was enough to power the SM7B without the Fethead, and the sound was extraordinary. I fell in love the second I got it and tested it. I can't see myself using any other brand. It's really exciting to know I have a console sound in my room. I recorded a friend's vocals, and he got compliments on how the vocals sounded clean and crisp (these were rap vocals, and because of the preamp it was easier to mix and add effects). I used a WA-87 and the room was fairly treated, enough to pay more attention to the vocals; that's how low-noise they are. It made me confident as a recording, mixing, and mastering engineer in my ability to come out with music with vocals that sound good. In conclusion, the EVO 4 is a great interface to start with; it really is the beginner's choice to learn about gain staging and even having two inputs. For the price, you cannot find a better deal. However, if you want to future proof your projects, go straight for the iD4 and you won't ever need to upgrade ever again. Thank you, Audient, for coming out with this miraculous device so hobbyists can get studio quality sound from the comfort of their own home. Sincerely, a traveling recording engineer. Audient won themselves a customer for life.

    Evo 4 should be a better choice for guitarists because of the 1 mega ohm instrument input impedance, unlike the 500k ohms of id4, but id4 has better converters so who knows what is actualy a better choice, I certainly don't. :)

    Hello, is it possible for one of these devices (evo 4/8 or id14) to mix together two microphone inputs so both are centered (two channel mono) instead of left/right channel and use it directly in windows? As an example some types of scenarios and softwares doesn't support downmixing sound input to mono for voiceover with two microphones and I want to use two microphones in two different locations at the same time for real-time voiceover in videogames.

  • @Audientworld

    This isn't possible in the Audio driver itself, this would typically need to be adjusted in your audio software itself. If the software you use doesn't have a mono downmix function then an app like Voicemeeter can help with this

  • @Audientworld

    @Audientworld

    2 жыл бұрын

    The DAC's spec wise are about similar to the iD4 (MKI), so you would still get the same quality you get on the iD4 (MKI). If you did want a bump up in DAC specs then the iD4 (MKII) may be another option.

If you're a beginner and need some assistance with setting your levels then the Smartgain feature of the EVO may be very useful whereas if you're happy setting your own levels, the iD mic pre and metal chassis of the iD4 may be beneficial. Hi, I'm a noob to audio hobby. I'm learning and would like to invest in Audient. Here's my noob qn before purchase. I have a pair of Kanto Yu6 which I'm not looking to sell. I currently run optical from ROG motherboard to Kanto. One reason why I wanted an audio interface is to have better audio experience than Realtek. Secondly would be to record mic like voiceover or ASMR (I build keyboards) In the future I might record electric guitar. Please have a look at Yu6 rear. How can I output to the Yu6? What audio convertors do I need? Could you recommend a brand? Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • @Audientworld

    @Audientworld

    I would recommend simply using a TS to RCA cable from the line outputs of any of our interfaces to the Analog RCA inputs of your speakers. This would give you better audio quality than trying to use adaptors to feed the speakers via the Optical inputs. You can then simply choose your interface from our range based on how many inputs and outputs you need and your budget.

  • @Audientworld

    @Audientworld

    There is always going to be latency when tracking through plug-ins regardless of what interface you use as the audio will need to make the round trip to and from the PC and thsi takes a little bit of processing time. Provided you keep your buffer sizes low, the latency should be kept relatively low and certainly low enough to record in real-time.
