Iconic Houston 🥩 Day Trip (FULL EPISODE) S14 E1

It's the Bayou City, Space City, Clutch City, and its first nickname, the Magnolia city. But it's also H Town, Hustle Town, and its official title: The Energy Capital of the World. They're all different and technically all correct because there is no place on earth quite like Houston baby!

With Houston being so big and so spread out you have to know what parts of town to go to. It's not a city you can just show up to, head into town, and stumble upon a bunch of bars and restaurants. That being said, once you do know the right neighborhoods and areas to go to, Houston has some of the best restaurants in the country and a great bar scene!

My mom grew up in the Heights district, and I spent many summers living with my grandma in the very same house my mother grew up in. The market and bakery were a weekly tradition. Present day, every time I visit Houston, it's a must to stop and fill up on produce and bakery goodies . ..I can literally taste the warm tortilla and sweet, cinnamon churro. 😋😍

You have to think of visiting Houston like visiting a small continent with dozens of countries. Many, many countries of the world are well represented in H-Town. It is impossible to experience enough of it in only a weekend trip. Like going anywhere international, you need to plan on a few weeks, at least, to get any real sense of this city. It's amazing.

I moved to Houston in the mid-1970s after graduating from college. I lived in The Montrose which felt like a small town in the middle of a massive city. It seemed like every week a new skyscraper was breaking ground. Loved my time there but the heat and humidity was too much for me.

The first capital was located by Broadway and Lawndale. It was on Manchester & San Saba. There's a 2-story wooden mansion, on a street call Pasadena. That is between 75th. and Navigation. Plus, the old Dr. Pepper company. At the light at 81st. and Harrisburg. Market St. is one oldest road in Houston. You can go back a thousand years; people travel close to the water as a guide not to get lost. Look at Old Hwy-90 it travels from Louisiana to Houston and "KEEPS" going. Plus, it follows the RR-tracks.

Take it from someone who was born in Houston, has now lived here again for more than 20 years, and lived in the CT/NY area for nearly 10 years... Houston is so much better than the north. People are so much more friendly in Houston, the cost of living is way lower, the food is top tier and at great prices, and the weather is much better. It may get hot in Houston but up North it gets bitter cold and you have to deal with snow and ice for months at a time and I will still take the heat over the cold any day. Every place has its ups and downs, but moving up north will be a complete culture shock.
