I went on Saturday and loved it. Possibly the wolf tooth booth because I’m a big fan. Other than that, just seeing all the new tech in person😁 the D3O booth was also sick, especially the vanquish grips based on the feel and tech. It’s very hard for me to pick a favorite.

Interesting names for those Vittoria tyres. Peyote is a cactus from Mexico with psychoactive properties, and Mezcal is an alcoholic spirit made from cactus. It covers a range of types because it can be made from a range of cactus varieties. Tequila is a mezcal made from Blue Agave, other agave plants give a different spirit. So between the booze and the psychoactive stuff there might be a good story behind those choices of tyre names 😀

The most interesting? Had to be the Gates Carbon belt booth. They had the Zerode Katipo with the Pinion gearbox. It was a simple but elegant build with no fancy swing arm kinematics. I was lucky to test drive one with the Electronic Shift. Amazing. So while Intense is moving in the right direction are they too late? Not if they can provide a home grown option for a much better price. Gotta love Sea Otter!

I've been eyeing the Nikolai Saturn 14 GPI for years now. Pricing-wise it is a bit out of reach for me (not a Dentist). Drawn to it cos of the easier maintenance of the drivetrain in the long term. None of the associated issues with the current 1x drivetrain setup. Hopefully in the future the trickle down affect will get more brands on board with the gearbox. Fingers crossed.

Great job, Owen, and just my vote but go for it with gravel tech. MTB is off-road, gravel is off-road, all forms of off-road riding are fun and I was part of the Sting-Ray crowd here in the States, for me it was 1967 when I got a Sting-Ray for my 8th birthday in San Francisco and that bike was instantly everything from riding around San Francisco with slightly older friends to flying straight down steep streets and zig-zagging back up and, O yeah, riding on the trails at the top of Twin Peaks and elsewhere and that's one thing kids on bikes knew how to do, find out of the way places and turn them into a dirt track of some sort. And into the '70s we added the Evel Knievel thing, too. 😀

What's the biggest holdup with enclosed, oil bathed cassette style transmissions anyway? Industry investment and entrenchment in derailleurs? Weight weenies? Seriously, it's not that bad. Propagation of the supposed negatives which are no more or less absent from the current transmission systems already? Companies wanting to sell brushes, de-greasers, and lubricants? Cassettes, bogies, and chains? Pinion, Gates, and other companies sole grip on this technology? It's not like Sram and Shimano aren't gripping other stuff.

At either end of the cassette it drops to 92%. Add some dirt and mud, and it drops even further. As @taz800 said, 2x and 3x are a more efficient. Is that where you want to go back to?
