This is one project for sure that came out looking like you left the interior untouched and original. @@yeboscrebo4451 which point was that?
@yeboscrebo4451
Жыл бұрын
@@k20nutz 1. charging electric is bypassing taxes which pay for the roads 2. Charging at 110 as opposed to 220 is inefficient and wasteful. 3. Hydroelectric is definitely not “clean”. 4. Burning coal actually entails benefits for agricultural areas that include fertilization and formation of rain. 5. CO2 is not distributed in equal ratios around the world. 6. Populated areas shouldn’t be able to “make the rules” for less-populated. All these are points worth discussion, definitely not “insane”, lol.
@davidhaywood8029
Жыл бұрын
@@yeboscrebo4451 1. That is a issue with the tax system for roading, not electric vehicles, and has a trivially easy solution (plenty of first-world countries *already* charge road tax by kilometre travelled, not as part of a fuel purchase). 2. This could hardly be a more egregious case of Matthew 7:5 when you're making a comparison to internal combustion engines that are only 20-ish per cent efficient. 3. Again Matthew 7:5 when you're comparing the minuscule emissions associated with hydro to the colossal emissions from coal thermal electricity plants. 4. That's like saying that my neighbour should engage with the idea of burning down their house because it would slightly reduce my winter heating bills (and, by the way, rain did actually exist prior to humans burning fossil fuels). 5 & 6. In the context of global atmospheric pollution this argument is equivalent to saying that we should divide public swimming pools into two halves -- pissing and non-pissing sections -- so that everyone can choose whether or not they want to swim in pisswater. Anyone with a milligram of common sense should be able to figure this out with a few seconds thought, so frankly no, it's not worth discussing in the context of an interview about a resto-modded/derelict '49 Mercury.

"In Canada..." Strange, I grew up in BC where most of the electricity is hydroelectric (in fact, the power company is called BC Hydro) and we sell our excess to California. In most of Canada, hydroelectric is so front of mind that many people refer to their "hydro bill" rather than electric or power bill, no matter how the power is generated.

I imagine there are a lot of terrific things about being rich. Being able to afford to fund an ICON would be pretty high on my to do list. I really appreciate the owner and ICON sharing it with us so we can enjoy the cool work that’s been done.
The audible gasp I let out when I saw this video! And I have to come back later! But God, I've waited for this one!
Very nice.. thanks for sharing. Some of us will never be able to afford such beautiful gorgeous works of art. But just like going to a museum (sometimes online) to see one of Van Gogh's paintings, we can vicariously enjoy the fruits of your labor and admire the beauty and the attention to detail. Someday in the next life maybe we shall get to own something like this. Keep up the good work, I know you have a long order book so you will be plenty busy & making great pieces for years to come.
Jonathan, another amazing vehicle from Icon! Great work!!
Awesome. Also love the vintage tin toy car transporter on the side! Love your choice of things!🙏🏽👌🏽
Give the Canadian his own show.he's hilarious!! Seriously good car guys well done
That goofy old farmer made some excellent points. I admired that you engaged with him at the car show. Now, to hear you badmouth him after the fact… makes you look weak

That guy was off his meds, at no point did he make a coherent thought that they could even engage with. He was also being rude by interrupting them. They were much kinder to the blowhard than I would have been.

Thank you, thank you, for this video! I've been waiting a while for it, but perhaps not as long as you :) I just adore the whole Derelict build aspect, that you've created, and you growing interest in making them EV. Wayyy more high dollar than I could ever afford to do with my "old gals", but amazing all the same! Thanks again !!
Derelicts have been, are, and always will be my favorites. Mind blown every time.
I love the way you handled that guy who disrupted your interview.
Hat way better Mr J. Your approach gives me hope that cars with character will be around for my grand children to enjoy - home run…
I appreciate how much you geek out on the details. Seeing what you did on every little thing amazes me. I love the derelict the best of them all.

Thanks! The beauty and fun is in the details!
Saw this on JL Garage. Impressed then and even more appreciative of the insights and 'craft that went into building it. Well done, too, on handling Mr. Carbon at the car show. There can be no doubt that his farm animals enjoyed a moment of peaceful respite from having to listen to his alt-power diatribe... although it was good to spew a few more carbon particles (for rain sake) thru his dental work. Well done on the vehicle! Patience pays off 👍🏽😎👍🏽
Sooo...I have always admired what you do at Icon. Glad to see this because I am getting as much information about EV conversions to (attempt) to do my own (1995 swb Dodge van). Thanks for letting me pick your brain. Awesome as usual!
"Automotive Sculpture" the perfect description of your channel and company creations. Hope to be a customer soon.
Truly appreciate the comprehensive look at this build. Any of my Retro Hot Rod buddy’s that look down their nose at this, can keep their heads stuck in the sand. Bravo to you and your team 😎👍🏆
man, I love this guy - The passion, the drive and the attention to detail
Thank you for your service, Sir, quite the inspiration your work provides.
You Tube offered up your channel and of course I couldn't click and subscribe fast enough. Listening to you talk and walk us through this build is Emmy Award worthy. I'm in absolute awe.

Man, that dude at the car show is flippin crazy lol. He's lost his marbles in a big way hahaha
These videos make my day. This car is so beautiful.
I'm not one to usually profane, but dad gum what a build and what a great company. Thanks for taking us on the journey!!.
This is the first classic EV I've seen done right! One other thing! Jonathan FREAKING Ward!
Thanks Jonathan… long time fan. I am in love with the look of the 2960 Buick Electra. It’s a boat and it would make an awesome EV
I think you've done an insanely amazing job in rebuilding this Mercury. I'm a huge fan of your derelict line for the unfinished patina and faded paint, that's the only way I'd want to have my vehicle look. 😁
I absolutely love every vehicle you make.
Beautiful patina on the 49. Amazing job.
been waiting for this one for a long time so glad you had the client to make this happen😊
I love all the Derelicts, your philosophy is spot on 😎👍
Love this car! Well I love all the vehicles you do. Such great detail in everything you have done I hope I get a chance to meet you one day.

Lovely build. As for the rude guy who interrupted your interview, you were very gracious to entertain his nutter comments. Your civility towards him was appreciated greatly by the rest of us more moderate Canadians who embrace cleaner energy sources over those proven to be toxic to the environment.

Glad to see you turning out another great piece of industrial art, huzzah I say!!
Great vid. Loved every minute of it. Can't wait to see more icon ev. If I ever win the lottery, you guys will be the first to, know. Hello from Australia ✌
That is one very cool car. I have always loved the old Mercury's. This is one updated classic, thanks for showing us the car.
What a cool car. Do more of these.
And, it goes without saying that the entire project, in concept, execution and finished(?) product, elevates the ICON brand to another level. Very well done, as always, as is your video production. Thank you for sharing it with us.

The 4x4s are sweet but this is such a cool switchup. Really well done! I hope I can see it in person around LA
nice message at the end bud, also you're not going anywhere! God bless and as always great work !
Pure craftsmanship! Amazing
Canada here: Most of us don't burn coal. In fact, it's being phased out. We're not ''short on carbon'', but he's short a few marbles for sure. Nice Merc, Johnathan.
Beautiful job. I like your idea of componentizing internals with long term mindset of keeping things forever or at least way longer than we currently do. This throw away mindset is stupid
Cool guy to have doing this stage of car evolution .. Thank You So Much..
That Merc is just so f..king cool, you guys do the best stuff out there, wish I could afford one of your builds, Rj in Oz
JW, your customer is a bad-ass... if not for someone willing to put the cash/time into such projects, we will stay stuck in the same gear forever. Super cool to see this on the road. As for our Canadian "buddy", to quote every mechanic from the past xxx years, "there's your problem, lady". Thanks for doing this, thanks for bring us along.
Amazing project, can’t wait to see the next one ⚡️
Love these derelict builds. Hope to see more coming. Would love to see you do more of a line like what you've done with the trucks where it's not quite such a high end build.
Wow , thanks for stopping by !

Coral Gables 🌴🇺🇸 ANOTHER great ride. Thank you. 🏄
Stunning build!
This thing is a masterpiece. I love that Mr. Ward is asking OEM level questions about the future of custom EVs. It's always strange to me that we will harp about refinement and livability on every little system in an ICE hotrod, but treat an EV like a golf cart.
Amazing video, really appreciate the deep dive, explains a lot, appreciate your philosophy of building something that lasts, means something and will be your legacy after you’re gone, in this all for profit, buy a new one when it breaks society we live in it’s so refreshing to see this, obviously your price point has a lot to do with it but it’ll be nice to explain one day how you balance keeping the lights on, making payroll and still maintain said philosophy!
Great car & thanks for always kickin ass. Someday I will own one.
Awesome Jonathan, we need more geeky deep dives like this! Not that you should wait 5 years to justify deep dive videos ;-) Keep'em coming!
Bravo Absolutely Awesome, it needs a shade over the windshield, a prism for the dash, two cop spotlight’s, and a mirror on the passenger side. That would really make it look like a ordered classic from back in the day. Oh my pet peeve is AC, the build must have AC. Thank You 🙏 Great Videos!!!!
Well Sir you have taken it all to another level and as usual made your mark on the world !! Good on ya mate !! it just opens up another world to all the old cars !!! I would never want an ol Merc with IC but how can I not want this, especially if I own my own gas station I mean cumon where is the downside lol Thanks man appreciate your work and how you bring real craftsmanship into the 21st !! keep on keepn !!
wow... now i need to be well qualified... never wanted to be, but THAT ev? is what i have been talking about FOR YEARS... you, sir,.. just made my head explode with what you are famous for... DETAILS... the cooling systems ALONE!! [i knew there was a reason you had never done a delivery wrap up video after sema on this.... sooo much buzz was created over that car... will study your ev's, as many will, for years
Fantastic build, Im sure it will set a new standard for EV conversions. This car will surely live for evr.
Honest and Straightforward as can be .... thanks
Absolutely, unbelievably kick-ass! 👍🏼
Beans Baxter is pretty fucking smart. Love this guy, because he knows his shit.
the first part of the video, jonathan is rapping🤣🤣 too cool!!
The face at 21:45 was incredible 😆
Love this car absolutely love it one day I’m gonna come visit you and you can build me a car. Never going to happen only in my dreams great cars keep going. ❤
EV Derelict is the way to go. The only way to go, and keep going.
Ah man - as a kid, I had one of those Flash Gordon coin banks behind you on the shelf.. seeing it brought back so many memories.. wonder whatever happened to it.. In any event, cheers Jonathan !
You're the King, man.
Great video & thank you.
Amazing car. Love it.
Outstanding!
That was fun... Thank you brother ...🤟
"That guy" made my head hurt.
Me parece que es una muy buena conversión, porque siempre ponían vehículos pequeños felicidades
Fantastic build, please, please stay with the EV technology and build more as you go. ICON is quality from the top to the bottom!! Loved this geek out deep dive and look forward to more just like it. Really appreciated the vintage copper Zona license plate.
Should have engaged him in a discussion as opposed to simply vilifying him. “Out of his mind”? Do you really understand all of the intricacies of power generation in all of it’s aspects? Love your show! Thank you

I'm an energy engineer, and I've heard some bullshit from nutcases in my time, but that guy was at a whole new level. The way he crowbarred in such a firehose of wrong-headed information in so short a time was almost genius. (Emphasis on the "almost".)

Yeah that guy was a dumbass to be certain. Not that I would say Jonathan really knows his stuff either. I definitely don't agree that CO2 is evenly distributed and nor Is hydro really what I'd call clean power. There is a lot of associated carbon and methane emissions from decay of vegetation under water as well as significant local environmental impact.
This is awesome. I am patiently waiting for the release of the Hellion
Well spoken and well done 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Just subscribe 🙌🏼
