It's fascinating that I can actually differentiate the two. Icelandic sounds much more whispy; it seems to employ the front of the mouth much more. Faroese sounds much more solid; it reminds me a lot of Danish!

They're basically the same, especially if you compare Liechtenstein German to the dialects of the surrounding Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Graubünden. As a Swiss person, the only real difference I see is that Liechtenstein German makes the Ich-Laut vs Ach-Laut distinction that is also found in Standard German, whereas Swiss German only uses the Ach-Laut.

@@MrAllmightyCornholioz That’s true, but everyday Faroese people had a lot more contact with Norwegians in the past, because the products they produced (wool, fish and woolen clothes) were in high demand in Norway, but not in Denmark. Norway is also a lot closer than Denmark. It wasn’t until the Danes started their trade monopoly after the Reformation that Faroese people had more normal contact with Danes. :) However, there are a lot of Danish loan words in Faroese, but they are just pronounced like a Faroese word and conjugated like a Faroese word would be, when people use them. :)

@@ole7146 You are correct that Faroese doesn’t have the tones that Norwegian has, but some words are pronounced almost identically to some Nynorsk words. An example is the word “not” (ikke) is almost the same in Danish and Norwegian Bokmål, but it’s “ikkje” in Nynorsk and is pronounced like the Faroese “ikki”.
