One world, one love. Greetings from Serbia.
So beautiful and sad, you transpire all the pain, suffering and misery wars cause, it's like a hymn to all the fallen children, to dreams destroyed, to war ravaged broken people. Your voice, the way you play the trumpet, is a mirror to your soul reflecting our own souls, to a feeeling of loss and then at the later stages of Beirut of anger, an explosion of rage and defiance at all the injustices. Beirut is Aleppo, is Gaza, is Mariupol, is every place torn by senseless wars. You're extraordinary Ibrahim Maalouf , bravo.
Came back to this song today, sending my best wishes and strength to all the lebanese brothers and sisters on this difficult times ✊🏽

Uhh, my Lebanon, Home will never be replaced as we are your children one day we will rebuild you to be the home we used to know... Uhh, my Lebanon...
For the first time of my life I've heard a trumpet crying. Incomparable beauty, thank you Mr. Maalouf

Cigerimiz kalmamistir. Greetings from Turkey!!!!
this song reminded me of Antioch. Just before 1 week ago. Part of my childhood was buried beneath the rubble throughout the city, after the massive erathquake happened couple days ago. I weep for the city, for my relatives, my memories. I wanted to listen this song. I wanted to mourn. I want to shout. Cry. Scream. Yell. Yell to the represantatives of the government. We lost a city 2500 years old. we should question the authorities who could've and should've prevent what happened in Hatay. I cry for my city, my memories, my country. It abandoned us, and we abandoned it. I swear I will not get comfortable until I see the rebirth of my beloved city, and country.

... Ibrahim is the second Maalouf I know, the first was Amin, the novelist ("Léon, l'african", "Samarcande"), and I still have a very vivid memory of his writings after 30 years. Ibrahim was a very recent discovery, by chance I must confess, but his amazing music made me wonder why there is war in Lebanon (Beirut used to be the Paris of the east), and all around the middle-east... Ok, I know, it begun in Sep11,2001 with the so called endless "war on terror" (?), the thrist for oil, the lust for absolute world power, made it happen, thanks to Bush (and Obama), Wall St. and the military-industrial complex, a.k.a. USA. if only people listened to this music and read these books the world would be much better. peace.

The heart beats since the soul is in the body And just when the body dies The heart stop beating The soul is alone Where is the heart that was beating for me Why do you put dirt on the body i used to leave in Now,i must leave But Where should i go now Where can i find a heart To beat for me And where can i find a body To stay I must leave Leave and may i return So my beloved body stay safe in the darkness of the earth and wait for me alright I swear i will come back again And we will live We will live in a place better Than this place A place where there is no death to take me far from you And to take you far from me We will live And the heart will beat Again ...

you asked where this melody is inspired from; as far as i can work out this is an Ibrahim Maalouf original; it feels so familiar the first time you hear it. It's a magical note progression. It has a faint resemblance to Round Midnight, same note intervals are being used but as far as i can work out this is totally original by Maalouf it's really fascinating
