CORRECTION: Apparently, the camera also had a Digital Video Terminal, that I didn't notice when playing with the camera. That port can be used to import video directly into a computer, meaning the quality would have been better than the method I used to import the footage. Thank you everyone who let me know! I might do a follow-up video with this discovery.

Thing is, the Canon XL1 was bought en masse by highschool video departments, and by the time the show started in 2007, it was still punching above it's weight class. So, Freddie was probably familiar with it already and chose it based on that. Also it was just a prop.

Funnily enough even as latest 2016 my broadcasting class still used cameras pretty similar to it and we were taught how to convert tape to digital. We also had smaller more modern handheld cameras which I personally preferred to save time and get much better quality.

I've actually used this camera (my high school had one). Timecode does turn off. The bigger feat Freddy would have had to work out is hosting a video stream on a website where tens of thousands of viewers tuned in regularry and purchasing an encoder (or trying to get his laptop to encode). The only two consumer options available at the time to stream live to the internet were UStream and Mogulus which most everyone knew as LiveStream (now part of Vimeo).

I just noticed that pears look like upside down feet. Dan Schneider lore just gets deeper.

The stickiness is from a rubber material that they spray on the plastic, that breaks down over time (this is why it is sticky, etc.). There are videos on KZread that will show you how to remove it.

If there's one thing i love doing with my mom, it's taking pictures with her and her Canon EO6 professional grade camera. We both share a fond enjoyment of creating really cool photos.

I had a Canon XL1 and used it from like 2010 through to 2014, was a great camera, really held up for something that was Standard Definition. I bought it because they used it to shoot most of 28 Days Later, and wanted the same video style. Definitely made you feel like a professional!

Damn the canon XL1...I havent spoke about this camera since I was a kid. One of my buddies filmed us skating with this and my other buddy had the VX2100, which i believe was Sony but im too lazy to google it lol. Thanks for the blast from the past man!

At 3:53 , the little black square next to the XL1 name signifies that it’s an XL1s camera, which is an improved version of the XL1 camera that came out in July of 2001.

As far as old cameras go, this honestly not too bad.

For me it suits the show at least for the first seasons, they were young and there weren't many ways of doing web shows and stuff so considering that, the quality is really good

To be honest, he also did a few things wrong. He shot in 4:3 aspect ratio but stretched it to 16:9. This camera isn’t natively able to shoot 16:9 but it has a mode where it squeezes the image, so you can stretch it out to 16:9 without looking like wide Putin. Also S-Video or Composite aren’t the only ways to import footage from this camera. The camera also has a MiniDV-FireWire Port which you can easily connect to your current Mac with an adapter. Sure, you will also have to import the footage 1:1 but even current Versions of Final Cut or iMovie will recognize this camera using this method and the quality will be much better instead using Composite or S-Video with a capture card.

As a big iCarly fan myself, I really enjoyed watching this video. Although the feet jokes can get a bit tiresome, I still enjoyed seeing the props in a real-life, out of TV environment. Can't wait for the reboot. (Edit: I'm noticing some people are having a problem with this comment, and to make this clear, I never said I didn't like Plainrock or his videos. I've watched the guy for years, and he never disappoints in anything he does. I do apologize if people got confused by that.)

That camera is actually really good at doing what it was designed to do... Film 480p content. If you set it up right for the lighting conditions, it will work great. We have been spoiled by cameras with great low light auto balance functions. And of course 4K resolution. But if you are looking for that "found footage" look, this is a great option because it has a great Lens. I look at that camera as a $20 DV cam with a $2000 lens on it

The game was inspired by the party game Mafia and the science fiction horror film The Thing. The game allows for cross-platform play, first released on iOS and Android devices in June 2018 and on Windows later that year in November. The game was then ported to the Nintendo Switch in December 2020, and on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in December 2021.
