I always enjoy using the handheld scanners when I go to Stop & Shop. Compared to the grocery stores I usually go to, Stop & Shop is much more technologically advanced.

Similar to the ones Hannaford uses. The one item that didn't scan failed, because the bar code was aimed at the glass on the back, where the laser is actually beneath the bottom glass. I'm sure the other pane is meant for bulky items, but they usually never work, on any system I've used.

We have NCR self checkouts, and on the NCR scanners both the flat and upright glass are scanners.

Winn-Dixie stores used to have this type, where you would put the item on a belt and it would pass thru 2 "arches." Originally they didn't handle cash so you would go to a kiosk at the end to pay if you were paying with cash. Later they were upgraded with the cash-handling mechanisms. Today, they have the U-Scan machines, which use a scale bed instead of the conveyor.

They used the old NCR scanner because on the main checkouts they use those scanners so they wanted to have the same scanners on the self checkouts or something

yep, i use this occasionally. sometimes i had to type the number. the keypad sound is interesting.

shame that we dont have these here in the UK because all we have are some NCR and Wincor Nixdorf Machines which suck.

$20 for all your grocerys. Not bad. That would cost $40 at a grocery store near me.

i love these self cheackout machines why are people angry mostly oldtimers and lazys not all but some we all need to move on people leran it leave it love it :)

The voice on my machine is different Than the one at my stop and shop.

we have Fujitsu ones at the grocery store near my house.

The curds and way cannot scan

Can't you wipe the barcode on the one that you cannot scan

@tommyboy6181: I think they just used the old scanner or something; they used to have PSI here. I hate these NCRs as well.

ShopRite usually puts in the NCR machines. MUCH less annoying than the IBM one. strange how these are the IBMs while the ones in sheepshead bay are fujitsu. also the IBM's at BJ's in Ocean Twp. will automatically make you rescan if you have something heavy and use the handheld scanner, because it's not being measured on the scale. definitely not a good machine for BJ's with all the heavy stuff they sell.

Oh, Old NCR scanners are bad, newer NCR scanners are ok but still bad. The best you ask? Datalogic magellan is the best, you should know

Tom: I saw the Newer Datalogic Magellan Scanners compared to the Older Datalogic Scanners after my store got Modernized from Old IBM in 2013 to NEW Toshiba in 2017. (Toshiba, IBM, and PSI are in Evolution of the Self checkouts of themselves which is in common together)

@tommyboy6181: Mine recently got Datalogic Magellan as well, but it's the only store that I know of (well, besides yours now) that has anything other than these piece of crap NCRs.
