I've had mine for about two weeks absolutely joy to play and it sounds better than what you are hearing here. Nice low end and you shouldn't have any problems with fret transition as long as you do a few scales before you start just to let muscle memory kick in. Well done I banez. I use this with my Ibanez fretless and it has added a new palette to our music.

I love Ibanez! Have played their basses for years.. Still do. But this bass does not sound like an upright!! Sounds more like a fretless acoustic bass to my ears..

I did hear one w/ tape-wound strings and it was much closer to an upright's tone due to the faster decay. Its a given that nothing electric will duplicate the exact complexity of an an upright but it was in the right timbre ballpark.

@@TheBassfresh Yeah this instrument's sound is in between the two so it fills in the gap. Round wounds on a Fretless are no biggie as long as you have the fretboard coated in a clear coat. A dark rosin is going to help when bowing round wounds cause it's sticky and their thick cause it plays really low. They should have a 5 String Version.

Editing my post from the original video: I've had one for about a month. I really like it. Mine is warm, woody and articulate with lots of 'mwah!' It doesn't play like a vertical fretless bass guitar. It's a smaller upright-esque bass. I've been taking upright lessons on KZread and can't get enough. I've been playing electric bass for about 40 years. It's been a long time since I've rolled out of bed and started practicing bass! It's also awesome with effects. Great stuff Ibanez! 🎸🎸🎸

@@Marijuana-Johnson You can adjust the string height. I lowered mine quite a bit and did a setup. No issues there. I have been having issues with the A string's pickup dying if the bass is plugged in over an hour. Not good if I was gigging with it. Have an email out to Ibanez but haven't heard back. Probably closed for COVID-19.

@@doggoinbox2719 That's definitely the amplifier creating that warmth. I have a couple of bass amps, and prefer to play it through a 10" Ampeg for that smooth jazz sound, and my 15" Laney if I'm playing something more rock. I'm not sure about making it sound like an actual double bass, as it's best to approach this as an upright bass guitar, but you can definitely get closer with the right amp. I have the 5-string version and bought a bow for it, and while it sounds amazing, I wouldn't imagine any orchestra hiring me lol.

Just ordered one..😊can't wait for it to come. Pumped I received it. The volume control know became loose after about 6 days. ... I sent it back because it didn't have the sound that I wanted.. played nice but 1k was too much.. just saving my pennies until I get what i want.

Cool sound but not a double bass sound. I still want one lol

I hesitated for two years before I got one. Two years wasted. It's all about muscle memory so warm up with scales and you'll be okay. Then you work on your intonation.

Hi,i'm in the same situation as you. As i understand it ,to play upright really well , as in being able to please the purist out there, you have to become fluent in using open strings in the first position and learn a slightly different finger technique when going up the neck. Btw ,hope you find your missing head!

Playing in tune in the high register is super difficult. You can’t see your fingers easily and reading high parts is harder than on a traditional bass. So if you just play simple stuff in one position down low it’s ok. But be prepared for hundreds of hours practice to get up top properly.

@@wobbenbuffet3286 absolutely, but I think it's safe to assume this was DI to a DAW to give the 'purest' representation of the pick ups, and compared to a more (for lack of a better word) sophisticated EUB like an NS Designs, I think it's a fair statement. However, that kind of is apples and oranges, given the price points. I actually bought the ub804, put it through a good parametric eq, it's fine. Again it's a price point, I certainly wasn't rushing out to spend 5k+ on an EUB I wasn't sure was going to do the job I imagined.

Not the tubas I've heard... I'd say it sounds like a fretless electric bass. I'm sure the eq could be dialed in to make it sound closer a real upright though.

34” scale ? Wouldn’t that be closer to a cello ?

Like the cello, the notes are close enough together that you can get semitones between all four fingers (you mostly can't with double bass), but it is double bass tuning.

34' inch scale for an upright instrument? No thanks, I've tried before and it sucks. I love Ibanez, but a way smarter choice would have been making it as a 1/2 or 1/4 upright bass size, something like, 40, 39 at least.

A 5 String Version, & when you send it to me at 2486 Governors Drive South, it's going to be strung with Lenzner Fifths Tuned Electric Bass Strings (C, G, D, A, E) cause it might make a great Electric 5Bass. It should also include a Case, & the Gauges of the Lenzner Fifths Tuned Bass Strings on an instruction manual. I also want to experiment with using Round Wound Versions of those Strings to get a brighter sound.

It sounds more like fretless bass guitar than acoustic upright bass.

Reject modernity return to tradition. But also make it modern.

How I wish this was available as a lefty....

I have just returned mine. I don´t like the sound, it is not like a double bass, is like an electric fretless bass. The d´ dario chrome strings are not suitable for this kind of bass, they sound to metallic to my taste. may be GHS flat wounds or Galli jazz flats, they are smoother and warmer
