Hey Matt, thanks for the revue. 5 string fretless electric player here and am interested in the Ibanez UB805. I've no upright chops and don't expect to use a bow. The bridge/pickup on this appears to be five separate pieces with significant room in between. How difficult do you think it'd be to re-drill the bridge to achieve a tighter string spacing at the bridge? Are the holes in the body that the wires go through rather generous in size, or would tightening the string spacing be a relative nightmare? Do you care to take one apart to find out? (Ha! These basses are unobtainium in my neck of the woods!) I'd re-string it with a high C instead of a low B, but that wouldn't be an issue, I presume..... Cheers, Paul K

Greetings and Happy New Year 2024 from Montréal, Québec, Canada !!! I would like to buy this Elecrtric double bass, BUT I am LEFTHANDED. How is the radius of the fretboard, is it equal from left to right so i could interchange the string and it would be playable for lefthand? Same question for the Pick-ups, if I were to change the strings around, are the pick-ups made for such action on the instrument? what about the adjustment of the bridge and intonation? Thank you for answering my questions. Stay healthy my good man !!! Cheers !!!

It's the Ashdown Studio 112. This particular model is the 25th Anniversary Edition in Tweed, but the specs are the same as the standard black tolex model.

Hi. To play this instrument correctly, does it require considerably more left hand finger pressure or strength along the neck, compared to, say, a P-bass or J-bass?

Not at all. In fact, when setup properly, you'll find this bass incredibly easy to play. The biggest learning curve is the upright orientation. Over time you'll get used to the note spacing, so you won't feel the need to constantly look at the bass neck while you're playing. Hope this helps!

As with almost every other EUB, it sounds like a fretless bass guitar
