I have the 6 string version of this, I'll probably have it the rest of my life. I'm glad to see they got rid of the old Ibanez PWC 3 volt preamp- it was absolute trash.

A SR Prestige 5 String was my first bass back when I started. This year I will replace all the basses I‘ve gathered over the years with a just one SR prestige 4- and one 5-string. After all these years these just kept getting better and better

@@EssexRecordingStudios A 4- and a 5-String Fender P-Bass, FGN Jazz Bass as well as two Thunderbirds. They all had their purpose back then like different tunings and stuff. But now all I need are two basses. They are all in really good condition though and I‘m sure the new owners will have a great time.

Quite a handsome bass, I’d love a wide spaced 5 string version, but Ibanez is obsessed with 16.5mm spacing. Oh, and a little heads up, Wenge is pronounced wen-gay, not wenJ

I have the exact same model bought in 2020 November, and I hardly play with it because - it sounded crappy! The on-board preamp in my opinion is a mess of wires crammed into a smallish cavity with no insulation coating. Have tried working the EQ knobs but couldn't dial up a tone that sounded decent for either finger style or slapping!! I have in mind to replace the preamp to an Aguilar OBP3. This bass should be labelled as Rock/Metal Music Bass!!!

Crazy question...have you tried putting a brand new 9 Volt in? We had an older 5000 and replaced the 9volt and it was life changing

@@EssexRecordingStudios ; trust me - I've tried EVERYTHING. Short of asking a Fortune Teller. It just sound harsh and glassy, or nasally. It just feels like a lemon 🍋. I have been playing Yamaha and Warwick basses, 5s and 6s, and this is my second go on an ibanez after 30 years, my first experience with ibanez was the Roadstar and back in the 80s they sounded fantastic. My bad to not have done some background checks - turned out ibanez was bought over by another entity based in Singapore. Japan only makes the bodies for high end models - only God knows where the electronics come from.

@@cjsamtab7 Have the -87 ProLine, made in Nagasaki 1987 according to serial number. That thing sounds fantastic, soft, yet powefull. Only instrument since 1990. No problems what so ever. Back then, I remember, the Ibanez basses had a distincte soft and nice sound to them. Newer ones, have no idea.

It sounded crappy?..are you for real?? I have a cheap SR300E and it is extremely versatile, i can get any sound i want out of it. Also, it is a frigging slap machine! There is nothing wrong with the pre amp in these basses..they are very very good. I have heard quite a few comparisons side by side with the 5000 against a fender jazz. And the ibanez kills the fender in slap hands down. And can easily match the lows of the fender but with a tighter more defined low end. I believe that, you do not know what you are talking about!!!
