PLAYING STARTS AT 0:36 - A bit rusty on Cliffs of Dover during the intro shots but the purpose of this video is to demonstrate the tone of the guitar/pickups and how it sounds. I play some riffs, leads, crunch and clean picking so you can see for yourself how it sounds.
I have put Ernie Ball Regular Slinky, 10-46 gauge strings on
I have had this guitar for 6 years now and not a scratch on it or any signs of wear. It is so far ageing well and still screams and sounds amazing

As I didn't have enough money to spend on dimarzios or Seymour Duncans, I tought in give ir a try to the Wilkinsons pickups. I play funk/rock, so I decided to change the stock ones for wilkinsons zebra in the neck and Bridge, and wilkinson vintage at the middle position. The results were amazing!!! For less than US100 I changed all the picks, and Im really happy with the result, a thing to consider is to buy the picks made in Korea, not the chinese ones. If You don't want to bust your bank, there are plenty economic options, just search for them. Greetings from Chile!!!!!

Thank you for this video this was SUPER Helpful. Question. What pick up are you using for your middle pick up (single coil)? I currently have a GRX70 which is basically the budget version of your guitar in the RG range. I absolutely love playing it but the pickups (Infinity R) are shockingly bad and I am going to swap them out for the same configuration as you. Love that you went for the Super Distortion rather then the usual paring of Tone Zone. Personally i think this has a better tone for the bridge pick up as the Tone Zone seems a little to bright. Was just interested about the single coil for the full set. Was considering maybe the True Velvet. Would appreciate your thoughts?

Nice playing! I was on the fence between this pair of pups and the Tone Zone/Classic Air for my next guitar (2018 Ibanez Genesis RG550), but your video helped me decide on the Super Distortion & Air Norton. Based on the videos I've seen, I'm starting to like the Super Distortion as much as the Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB, which I have in a Gibson LP and a cheaper Ibanez.

I saw a head to head with the Super Distortion and the JB in the same guitar, same settings, same riffs and they are very, very similar. Both are great pickups. JB is probably very slightly brighter, cleaner and the Super D is a little fatter warmer, but just barely in both cases. Very, very similar.

The Tone Zone is a great pickup like the DP100 (in bridge position) but is slightly more "modern" sounding rather than the vintage tone and feel of the DP100 (also a little less output). I'll be making another video soon that shows the difference with the before and after upgrades of my modded RG550. I've ordered some DiMarzio PAF Masters online but they're taking much longer than expected to arrive. The lick at 3:15 is from "Neo Classical Sweep" by Gentaro

If you love the sound of a Super Distortion® in the bridge and you like hot neck pickups too, try a Super 2™. The Super 2™ takes the classic Super Distortion® sound and slides the EQ up in favor of the high-end, so its brighter top and lighter bottom work to balance out the darker, overtone heavy information up by the fingerboard. The Super 2™ is just the pickup to clean up the overdrive sound of a mud-heavy 24¾’’ scale, two-humbucker guitar or to add snap to a dark sounding 25½” bolt-on. It works great in the bridge or the neck.. that's according to DiMarzio themselves.

@@LFC-Star Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up choosing the DiMarzio Tone Zone-S for the single coil slot in that Ibanez S1XXV. I'm really happy with it. I have 2 other Ibanez gtrs that need their stock pickups swapped out, so maybe I'll try the Super 2 in the bridge of one gtr and the Super 3 in the bridge of the other one.

Great demo. I was thinking to upgrade my MIM Strat's pickups. That super distortion sounds so PRETTY which I'm gonna install and (maybe) I'll install SD hot rails as the neck pickup, but should I install single coil sized humbucker or should I install normal sized humbucker? Also what is the middle single coil pickup in the video? I don't know what to have as a middle position. I was thinking of having standard or noiseless single coil, but will it "bottleneck" the middle pickup if I also install 500k pots? Sorry if I'm confusing, but nice video again!

  • @guitarist6494

    @guitarist6494

    6 жыл бұрын

Not confusing, I think I understand what your saying. The single coil in the middle position is the stock ISF3 (i think its called) but I honestly never use it, so i cant really help you out on that pickup sorry. If you get a full size humbucker (which i prefer) you will need to buy a different pickguard to accomodate for it, presuming you using a 3 single coil configuration. Im not to sure about the 500k pots as I have no experience comparing it to standard 250k, but hope that helps.

Very nice dude.. I too own one of these beauties and the intonation is outstanding. The sustain pretty amazing too. The trem can handle dive bombs till the cows come home! Anyway, it seems my trem arm continuously has some slop to it. I have to really screw the thing down to prevent the "dead zone" between a pull and a dive. I like where the arm is now, but it always shakes loose and I am leery on putting a bit of loctite on the trem arm nut. Thoughts?

Theres probably a good tutorial on youtube how to do it so be sure to be 100% sure before you try ;) Thanx alot man !! At 3:43 Im playing Big City Nights - Scorpians and at 5:35, Limelight - Rush. +Dharyn SimmerX Awesome guitar. Thats the black version of this one without without the pickguard right? I very nearly bought one over this but very happy I bought this as I just prefer white, and the pearloid pickguard. Im pretty sure there is no difference whatsoever apart from the fact one is black without a pickguard. Apart from that they're both exactly the same I could definitely imagine you preferring the Ibanez over the schecter (not dissing schecter) Funny you should mention Jackson as I have been looking at some DK2Ms on eBay today and been tempted. The body is Alder, not mahogany but I favour both those over basswood .....I ended up buying that BC Rich Mockingbird STQ off ebay, so I will be doing a review of that sometime around Christmas ;)

+guitarist6494 actually im not much of a pro shredder myself but im really into ibanez guitars and especially the RG , im planning to buy the 370DX but im really confused as it gonna be my first electric guitar and people say that the Edge III bridge wears out pretty quickly and then you keep struggling to keep it in tune, so im confused between RG470DX and RG370DX, all i want in any RG is a HSH config, without scratchplate, an Edge pro or Lo TRS bridge ,fast Wizard II/III neck and most of all, those sharktooth inlays......im currently searching to see which one of these has the specs i mentioned above..... and bro if you have any info regarding these two, can you please tell me about it, thanks a lot i n advance :)

+Saad DX If its your first electric guitar i wouldnt worry about which bridge is better. Ive had my RG (with the Edge III) for exactly 6 years now and it stays in tune perfectly like its brand new, nothing wrong with the tuning. This RG was my second guitar, so in your case its a really good first guitar to have and i wouldnt even worry about the bridge. Im not very familiar with the 470 but the only difference would probably be the pickups.... Which shouldn't matter cause you can just change them. Either guitar you choose, 470 or 370 is gonna be a very very good first guitar. Both amazing guitars and very shred capable You might want to keep in mind tuning will be an issue (im guessing your gonna be experimenting with different tunings with this being your first guitar) as both these guitars have a locking tremolo (edge bridges) which means its good for keeping in tune, but changing tunings, such as going from standard to Eb or drop D, is a nightmare.... A fixed bridge is ideal for that, not an edge (floating tremolo) ....but if your not bothered about tunings dont worry about it The song I was playing with the Air Norton, after Mr Scary, is Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

(y) \m/ im gonna get that axe, its one heck of a shred machine ;) and about the tuning..... well yeah mate tuning a Floyd rose is a pain in the arse xD but again, floyd rose/floating trems are great for doing the divebombs and pitch bends steve vai style

So many options to choose from it's hard to give a good answer but as long as they're are F Spaced to accomadate the floating tremolo. The main thing I look for in pickups is the output. How hot the signal will be. The Super Distortion is a High Output pickup so it's great for heavier and harder tones as opposed to say a PAF pickup. I have the PAF Master set in my RG550 and there's a huge difference in output compared to this guitar with the SD pickup

This is just my opinion and both are amazing pickups. ....I will add that I've been using my Ibanez with the SD a lot recently and probably going to use in the video after the next one.

Sounds awesome man. In that case I'd strongly recommend a Charvel San Dimas. I'd been playing this RG for the past 7 years and bought a Charvel, for the 80's tone/style and couldn't believe how perfect it was for it. They come with a JB in the bridge and the alder body is far better than basswood for that style. If your using an RG with basswood, no matter which pickup you put in it, it's is not going to sound as "80's" as a guitar with Alder/Mahogany body. Again, just my opinion and going off what I have experienced lately but go with whichever you really want.
