    As a May 2022 student, who really does put a lot of effort on her Psychology HL class and gets very high marks, i always doubted the way i study this subject. After watching this vid; seeing that u got a 7 from Psych with these study strategies that i also use, i am extremely relieved. Thank you very much for such an informative video, i wish u the best of luck in your future University studies!!🥰

    So glad that this video provided you reassurance!! My friends and I were also super anxious with using these "strategies" because we were so afraid of missing a topic and not being able to answer a question during the exams... but yea everything worked out at the end! Thank you for your kind words and wish you all the best in your final year of IB!! 😆

    Thank you for this video and the free notes, they are REALLY helpful. I have a quick question for the research methods section, you said that Meyer and Lindenburg study is a quasi-experiment, therefore, "causation can not be established" Why is this the case? I thought there is still a clear cause-and-effect relationship in that study. You also said that extraneous variables are more easily reduced but isn't it harder because researchers cannot be sure that the group is equivalent in all other characteristics? Once again, thank you very much for this informative video!

    Hii I hope you guys found this video and my notes helpful! I spent A LOT of time working on my notes and essay bank to prepare me for my exam. I was initially going to put a price on it instead of giving them out for free, but because my much of notes were copy and pasted from various textbooks and resources, it was unethical for me to sell an unoriginal work. Nevertheless, I still put in a lot of hard work trying to put up that document together, so I would really appreciate if you subscribe to my channel in return if you found it helpful! Hope you guys have a wonderful day :D

    First of all, thank you so much for sharing these useful tips and your SAQs & ERQs samples! I'm a DP1 student and just received my end-of-year exam result. It's terrible:( One of the questions is: Explain one research method used in the sociocultural approach to understanding human behaviour. I wrote exactly the same research method as your SAQ sample (the SLOA). However, my teacher gave me a 0/9 because the SLOA is not included in the IB syllabus (this is what my teacher explained to me, I'm so confused). I wonder if your school accepted this answer or if it's just I misunderstood the question and your sample. Thank you!

    this video was so helpful thank you! I just had a question about my study plan. In class for psych (and bio) I don't take notes but make flashcards. I plan on doing a spaced repetition system and review flashcards every day based on the system. Also, I am about to start DP 2, do you think it would be too much to do an essay (or essay plan) each week from the start of the year? I don't know if I should give it to my teacher to mark because I think she might get annoyed marking an essay a week. Do you think this plan is sustainable ( i already do the flashcard part most days)

  • @syndeywong4673

    @syndeywong4673

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi again!! I think your plan on doing active recall and spaced repetition using flashcards is excellent! In terms of writing an essay a week, I think its workable at the beginning, but you might be really busy with IAs and other exams as you progress through your senior year. I suggest you to write an essay ONLY topics you find challenging and topics with less resources. For instance for reconstructive memory Im pretty sure up to 90% of the candidates will use Loftus and Palmer. However, for topics like pheromones where each textbook suggests different studies, you can consider writing an essay on that topic and show it to your teacher to discuss with her. And I'm sure as you write more essays, it will get easier and easier for you, so it is not necessary to show your teacher ALL your written essays. I hope this response was helpful to you, and good luck in your senior year!!!

    I implement different note taking methods for different subjects. For memorization bases subjects like Psych and Bio, I rely almost fully on digital notes (in the form of flashcards for bio and in the form of an "essay" for Psych). Because there is so much content, I found that it is a waste of time for me to just copy things down from textbooks. For other subjects like Chem and Math, I do take some physical notes from class but I rely mostly on past papers to consolidate my knowledge. For language subjects I do a lot of annotation on texts and use flashcards sometimes to memorize vocabulary :)

    Hi! Technically, there isn't a "list" of prescribed studies that IB gives out to let students to memorize. The key here is that, in answering an SAQ/ERQ, you can use ANY studies in the world, as long as it answers the question. What textbooks do is that it compiled a list of studies that it thinks answers the question best. Most of the studies I use are from the Oxford textbook (the most used textbook for IB Psychology), unless I find another study that I think I can memorize better :D My IB Psychology teacher was an examiner, so I was able to learn a LOT from him. He said examiners prefer studies that are most commonly used because it makes the grading for them a lot easier as well. So I would say if you can, stick to the studies on the textbook. If you do find certain details that you think is unsuitable in answering the ERQ, discuss with your teacher! It may be a critical thinking point you can mention. I hope this is helpful to you!! :D

    I'm a bit confused I do HL psych and for our end of year exam for paper one we had 3 erq options and one was a HL topic. In the actual paper one do HL students need to answer 2 erq's (one general topic question and one HL topic question)?

  • @syndeywong4673

    @syndeywong4673

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Isabella! I might have explained it unclearly in my video, sorry for that. What I meant was that for an HL paper 1 section B, there will be 3 ERQs and AT LEAST one of them will be an HL topic. If the actual paper 1 provided 2 HL ERQs (like the example I used in my video), the student still only need to answer ONE ERQ, either one is ok. So, it is entirely possible for HL students to NOT be tested on HL topics at all. I hope this clarified some of your confusions :D

    Hello, I'm starting my IB in a couple of weeks and taking Psychology HL. I'm a bit confused about tip 2, where you mentioned that if we take the second approach, we just have to study the HL topics and not the core content. Could you elaborate on that? Because don't we still need to learn the core content for the SAQ questions? so it means we still have to study everything if we do decide to take the second approach. Thank you

  • @syndeywong4673

    @syndeywong4673

    2 жыл бұрын

    yes, you still need to learn the core content for SAQ questions, but you dont need to prepare the more studies for core content to study for ERQ questions. Because normally, you just need ONE study for each SAQ, but you will need at least two studies for each ERQ. So by taking the second approach, you basically can reduce the amount of studies you need to memorize by half (for core content), and then just focus on HL topics for ERQ. I hope this clarifies some confusion :)
