Ian Wright x Kalvin Phillips - Interview | Leeds United & England
Спорт
I got to spend some time with Leeds United & England midfielder Kalvin Phillips. We visited the area where Kalvin grew up and learnt to play the game. An incredibly humble and talented player with a bright future.

117 goals in 253 starts for Crystal Palace (leading post war goal scorer)

Ian Wright is a stand up guy who has lots of respect in Leeds. He supported Eddie Nketiah whilst in Leeds and Ian is always welcome in our city.
Wrighty's respected by generations (not just a generation) of football fans. He's a legend! And this Kalvin lad aint bad either! A Leeds legend in the making.

Wrighty is a really nice guy and a proper EPL legend. If Kalvin gets anywhere near him then that will be great MOT
Ian Wright! Wright! Wright! As a loyal Leeds United supporter, I have no shame at all in saying I have always loved Ian Wright. His enthusiasm and passion for life are always evident in whatever he does. Man's got style and class too! It's no surprise Wrighty sees what he sees in Kalvin, and it was lovely to see what Wrighty's words meant to Kalvin at the end. Props to Kalvin for sticking at it; there were times when it didn't look like he'd progress further than mid-table Championship level, not that there's any shame in that but, he's developed on and off the pitch into an all-round pro and a top bloke. From Wortley Top to Wembley! Bless you both and thank you. MOT
Love this guy. What a man. Absolute baller but extraordinarily humble.
Two of the most likeable personalities in football
Typical of some snotty teacher wanting to suppress somebody's dreams and talent because it's something outside "The Curriculum", what a way to give a classy two fingers up at them. So glad Kalvin stayed with us and love how him and his family are. As for Ian Wright, he's one of them rare blokes who was outstandingly gifted and even if he played now on a million a week he'd still be that working class gent we all want a beer or three with! Great video.

@@MrJackWagstaff Well stone me! we clearly didn't know that. Thanks for pointing that out to us. Yeah you are absolutely correct. how stupid of children for daring to dream and chase their dreams, whatever they may be? By the way, allow me to let you in on a little secret...you weren't born to become just a wage slave, you know? The problem with you Jacky poos, is you only think about money, which is such a shame because life has so much more to offer than bits of paper printed out of thin air whenever it takes the banks fancy. Adios.
@stephenhodgson3506

@@maratonlegendelenemirei3352 there's nothing wrong with dreaming so long as the reality of the situation is pointed out to kids. As Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford have recently been pointing out only 0.012% of kids that start out actually make it to the Premier League. You can be the best player in your team as a kid but if on the day the scout turns up you have a bad game you miss your chance and can spend the rest of your formative days chasing a dream that never happens. Then you might get lucky and get signed by a club but in a physical contact game you're only one bad tackle away from the end of your career. My son's, sister-in-law's partner was on Bradford' City's books but got a bad knee injury that finished his career at 16. His is far from an isolated case. There was a video about Jack Harrison of Leeds who was on Man Utd's books. He told of how when he was walking down a corridor with photos of many of the recent past youth teams and his mum asked him how many of the faces he knew that were still there and he said none. He took his mum's advice and took a sports scholarship in the US. He now has a degree to fall back on if his career for any reason fails. He is also in the position that when his career does end that he will have another string to his bow besides coaching, or punditry. I used to coach kids and the first thing I would ask was how many wanted to be footballers. Every hand would go up not because of the money but simply so they could play football. I would then point out how many young players the clubs would take on each year and how hard it was going to be for them to succeed. I would tell them what they were going to have to give up and how hard they would have to work to even have a slight chance of making it. then I would explain that they shouldn't give up on their education because even though it would be hard for some of them they would always have that education to fall back on if they didn't make it. Over the years I must have coached hundreds if not thousands but only one ever made it to be a professional. You don't destroy the dream but you do point out the reality because even if they don't make it they will have developed character that will stand them in good stead. But if they don't have that education then all they will become is disillusioned young men with no path for the rest of their lives.
Gotta love Wrighty

Keep up these sorts of interviews mate, they're cracking, bit longer wouldn't hurt either, but I'm not moaning like. MOT
Lot's of nice comments about Ian Wright - certainly well deserved. But Kalvin Phillips is a Monsieur, and where I live you can't get a better compliment.
My grandad brought kalvin to Leeds and says how he is so down to earth and hasn’t changed even with how big he has become
Big up Wrighty. Gunners legend 🤜🏾🤛🏾💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
Remember going to Fulham away and a very young Kalvin walked passed the fans on the way round the pitch to the dugout acknowledging us by clapping, he was grinning from ear to ear, you could tell he loved the club and the fans. Very proud Leed fan. Massive respect to Wrighty a true ambassador of our beautiful game. MOT

Cant believe the amount of people saying kalv isnt good enough for england.. Hes a quality player, range of passing and constantly moving, and then off the ball hes a beast, no1 in the England midfield is a better defensive midfielder than kalvin, rice and Henderson are good but kalvin is definitely stronger in the tackle than any of them
