    I don't support the intervention in Syria, but to be fair even when we did go in we weren't aiming at toppling the government. If we'd gone in the first time, we would have toppled Assad, and then when ISIS flared up a few years later they would likely have taken Damascus and all the industrial and population centres, rather than just tracts of desert and a few cities. Whilst I don't support either, going in the first time would have been FAR worse, so even though Miliband only delayed the intervention, even that delay did achieve a lot.

  • @Zkkr429

    @Zkkr429

    People forget what Cameron wanted to do. He was actually going to bomb Syria, in support of ISIS. They didn’t realize what it was at the time and were about to make a gigantic blunder. Prescott is right Miliband did stop it and he doesn’t get any credit. When we did intervene in Syria we at least didn’t do it in support of radical Islamists who want to end Western Civilization. That 2 years was vital to understanding who the protagonists in the civil war were. So instead of bombing the Assad regime and pissing off the Russians and helping ISIS the intervention has mainly avoided conflict with Assad and concentrated on putting down radical Islamists. Huge difference, and thanks to Labour and Milliband!

    @@Zkkr429 Well said. Our bombings of ISIS (though mostly it was the Americans) were well worth doing, done in coordination with secular, feminist, pro-democracy forces on the ground in the form of the Kurds and their Arab allies, and were critical to enabling them to wipe ISIS off the map.

    Paul really saves Ian there . Only issue i ahave with Ian is sadly he has blindedly supported the self regulation by the papers , which is bad due to their own manipulation of complaints . While it is easily argued that any goverment controlling press is equally bad , there are more checks and balances than the self appointed people in their own industry .

    I could listen to Prescott burbling all day. He consistently fails to engage brain fully before opening gob. His syntactical butchery is glorious to behold. Its like the sentence is perfectly formed in his head, but by the time it reaches his mouth, its become alphabetti spaghetti. Somebody mentioned Les Dawson's piano playing. Well, Prescott talking is the speech equivalent ; it's vaguely right, but comically jarring in its garbled magnificence. When he's in full flow, it's the verbal equivalent of the sound of furniture falling out of the back of a lorry.

    Punitive air strikes were on the table after Assad regime used chemical weapons against citizens, not '' an invasion into Syria'. All those that vacuously cheered at doing nothing should ' consider the differences between an invasion of a country and the use of force to put an end to continuing butchery. '
