    Yes. but when I watch this I still see Hugh and Glenn sat behind those HIGNFY panel desks trying to stay alive and smile through their discomfort. It's like they're pretty sure they're safe because it's television, but it's not a done deal...

    Oh I don't know. If you see Ian vs. Prescott then you'll know how heated it can get. I think AC handled it well here, but then manipulation of an audience is his speciality. He knows that hitting back at Ian would only prove his point.

    When this show finishes/Merton & Hislop move on, we will see the end of one of the last institutions of British television. Funny, informative and holding people accountable - well, asking them to be - you don’t see it much anyone else.

    It's really hard to keep the line flowing with shows like that. He has to look away and concentrate on where it's going, rather than fully join in and lose himself. Kind of like an editorial role during the improvisation. As others have said it's also to do with where his humour comes from - miserable and dry.

    Think of all the shock and horror, the scandals, slip-ups, cons, scams etc etc perpetrated by politicans in th UK (and elsewhere) and mocked relentlessly on HIGNFY over the last - what is it? -100+ years? Seems longer. What has changed in the UK? Other than Ian Hislop's and Paul Merton's bank balances, obviously? HIGNFY is smart-ass 'comedy' guaranteed 100% to uphold the staus quo. Bless.
