This just confirms my view that the reason BoJo is so hated by Hislop and the Liberal left is because of brexit. Unfortunately, BoJo didn't vote for brexit. The voters did.

@@crh7742 Exactly my point. White privilege comes to mind, (even though we have a "brown" PM.) And as Ian pointed out in this interview, he was surprised at the lack of any racism in the press about Rishi being the first non-white PM. Next we'll have a disabled trans person in power. Diversity and all that.

There are many great long lightly cut interviews with smart interesting guests around now. There's YT channels & podcasts that specialise in them, while PBS has some like "The Putin Files", the Silicon Curtain regularly has varied guests and a perceptive interviewer. For a dramatic topic "American Psyops" is a series with Wes Clarke jnr, which illuminates the intersecting world of international money, film, state intelligence agencies, politics and NATO chiefs featuring the general's son who rather drifted once leaving the US army.

The term “national treasure” gets used too often, but Ian really is one.
Ian Hislop has been on the high wire of political discourse in Britain for over 30 years. He has consistently asked the difficult and challenging questions without coming down on one side or the other. Ultimately that is a role that has a real value. His broadcasts give food for thought, and show paradoxes and hypocrisy in mainstream narratives without providing answers or prescriptions. It is a very technically challenging role, a very emotionally and intellectually challenging role that he has done as a free agent for over 30 years. He is a diplomat to the public sphere of discourse who has paid his own way. In his own very understated, modest and typically British way he manages to engage with audiences and questions them and educate them and enables them to grow and ask questions. He is an educator and a national treasure!

Give me a break. Exemplar? Who uses words like that except little green men. 142 of them to be precise. Putin should sack you, but then he should sack his army. But there is no one better to replace you all. Back in 1932 Stalin thought people who starved to death were purposely starving to spite him. He thought the Ukranians and kulaks were starving as a form of protest so he made things even worse for Ukraine. Even then Europe did absolutely nothing to help Ukraine. It didn't even make the newspapers. I guess people were too busy laughing at satirical publications back then too, taking justified pot shots at the bungling politicians and thinking it's proof we are a great bunch because we got a sophisticated sense of humour.
As an Eye subscriber, I sometimes find the mag' a difficult read, because I get so bloody angry at some of the stuff in it. I don't want them to tone it down or stop telling it like it is. I just wish the truth wasn't quite so shitty.

Good interview. Hislop is always entertaining, and incisive 👍
Could listen to this man for hours on end. I went to a talk he gave in our town regarding a satirical cartoon exhibition in our museum, very, very interesting man, love him.
Ian Hislop is a national treasure.... love this guy and everything he stands for. ❤
Wonderful discussion. Great work the both of you.
Ian Hislop is brilliant. I disagree with him on many political matters, but he's a very perceptive commentator, amusing speaker and writer. I'd love to go for a few drinks with him. A real National Treasure.
God bless Ian Hislop, it's so nice to know you're not going mad and we really do have the absolute worst government in history

I mean I’m no fan of this government, but it’s not the worst government in history. It’s not even the worst British government

Until the next one, imagine this government but stuffed with diversity hires and children

@CtrlALlTerrorS Really depends how you look at it though doesn't it. Robert Peel's government founded the police and Churchill's exacerbated a famine abroad but I doubt either exemplified as much contempt for one's own public as this current government have done.
These need to come in podcast formats, I love Ollie and Ian's chats. But, podcasting it would be easier to listen to.

Ian is one of my favorite storytellers.😄
This man helped me when nobody else did. What a gent.
Hislop is a national treasure
It's good to hear a voice of reason, even if it's from across the pond :)
Omg this is the most sane interview I've heard since 2019!
Ian is absolutely brilliant in his summations, great interview ❤
Hislop: "We've hit the absolute bottom" Tories: "Hold my PPE contract"
I liked it when Charles decided to host a pre-cop “party” which stuck two fingers up at the Govt Excellent work “politics Joe” best interview I’ve seen with Hislop
Love Hislop and his brand of humour and take on events. I also always learn new words from him.
Great guy - actually tells us what's really going on and offers genuine well thought out commentary. Could teach the msm a thing or two.
I wish I had been a fly on the wall when Zelensky told Johnson he wanted Ukraine to join the EU.

Hello Peter , thanks for the imagination wake up , When the channel 4 presenter said to Johnson ‘ you must have been furious with the person who made the protocol deal “ ( something along the same lines ) He did do a decent job of letting it go over his bonce ? Methinks Zelensky may have touched the parts unknown to even Mr Johnson !
Fantastic conversation - thank you both
Great piece. Thanks both.
Always entertaining listening to Ian Hislop, he articulates events as they happened not as others would like us to believe!
I'm a man that will skim the headlines every morning. But in NO way would I call myself interested in politics. But watching a man that lives and breathes politics, I felt a kinship in the way we both perceive the government and the world in general
Brilliant, really needed to see this, Hislop reminds us to be sensible.
"My way of joking is to tell the truth; it's the funniest joke in the world". George Bernard Shaw. I'd say the same for Ian Hislop and is a brilliant straight man for Paul Merton on Have I got News For You as he is funny in his own right. Great interview this 👏👏👏
What an untidy office ! makes me like Ian even more !!! love the shaving foam
