@@depressed_cows That's very likely not how his epilepsy worked, Ian probably had seizures before Joy Division in which they were limited to focal (meaning, smaller ones that didn't make him have tonic clonics). Hell on the strobe light thing, at the most 10% of epileptics are affected by flashing lights, most of the time seizures are caused by stress, a lack of sleep, overstimulation, etc... Rarely, that earlier band surpasses all imitators. Fairly recently, I noticed several favorite bands had influences in common...and those groups in turn named yet earlier bands. It led back, like a genealogy chart; to one common progenitor: Joy Division.

@@depressed_cows Nope. The stage people were just that inconsiderate...or maybe the band was trying to keep his condition under wraps. But Ian's epilepsy manifested pretty early in Joy Division's career.

@@depressed_cows That's very likely not how his epilepsy worked, Ian probably had seizures before Joy Division in which they were limited to focal (meaning, smaller ones that didn't make him have tonic clonics). He began to have convulsive seizures in late 1978 before Unknown Pleasures was released. Hell on the strobe light thing, at the most 10% of epileptics are affected by flashing lights, most of the time seizures are caused by stress, a lack of sleep, overstimulation, etc... I didn't know Ian obviously, but it's probably not true about those things

Dude I love him I’m still sad he’s gone tbh rip Ian
Sing like no one is listening. Love like you've never been hurt. And dance like you're motherfucking Ian Curtis!
He just doesn't give a FUUUUUUCK.
a very brave display of passion.... Ian is the only one who ever moved like this and i think that we will never see someone display his passion and madness for music like Ian did because everyone is (or most musicians) just busy just trying to look cool...
Thank you for putting this together. Brilliant.
I love Ian Curtis's dancing. The manic movements and the unfocussed eyes. He has the Mojo Working with in him so much that it is bursting t et out. R.I.P..
Ian was a legend, was really in the moment, unforgettable ❤.
Like it or not… it’s EXTREMELY hypnotic
The Ian Curtis epilepsy dance is a beautiful thing. RIP young man old soul.
It would be really great if someone started an Ian Curtis dancing channel.
That. That's unique original awesomeeee !! Just being him great pure music ....
When the world has gone mad, life makes no sense and everything has gone to sh*t, nothing else matters but Ian Curtis dancing.

Reminds me of how bjork acted in her early years when she looked like a little boy. She would dance with wreckless freedom. She looked crazy and weird. It was also embarrassing. But somehow brilliant too. Only difference is she could sing in tune... but she was just as weird
how can people just stand there i would have went crazy watching ian curtis perform live R.I.P
I love this man so much, its sad knowing he’s not here anymore. But man this guy was a goddamn legend.
I love Ian and Bez dances. Unique.
Thanks a lot mate. This video is just perfect. I wanted to show my girlfriend the way he used to dance and you did all the work for me. Thanks again mate.
Spellbounding!, A true legend.
His dancing gives me life 😌 Gone too soon. He will always be missed. Rest in peace legend.
they asked his band mates (now New Order) about his dance moves and they said Ian told them it was his way of showing the audience what the music looks like
RIP legend!
I love this he lives on
My guy got them dance moves
Joy Division; always my no 1 favorite band. The lyrics in the songs and their sound are just awesome. I ll never forget the moment when i heard that Ian curtis comitted suicide. It was just so incredible sad, but still not surprising. I was in the dark side of me for weeks, only listening to their records. My favorite song was and still is Decades. The sad beauty of this masterpiece still hit me right in my heart....
love you and your spirit 💕
anyone in music knows IAN IS A LEGEND i wish he was still with us ..great music
I just think it was adorable almost like he knew he had to do something with his body but wasn’t fully sure of himself
His dance is precise 💙💙⭐️💙⭐️💙⭐️
"Instead of just singing about something you could show it as well, put it over in the way that it is, if you were totally involved in what you were doing". Ian Curtis' only public comment on his dancing, from an 1979 interview.
I will admit that I never did quite get into Joy Division, but after seeing these videos of Ian Curtis dancing, I can say that I would pay to see a dance-off between him and Maynard James Keenan of Tool. Seeing those guys trying to outdo each other while singing AND being backed by their respective bands just seems like it would be legendary.
Ian Curtis is timeless
Ian Curtis is a legend.
Beautiful
Ian Curtis - Champion and Legend
Ian Curtis forever ❤️❤️
@dillweed44 When I really like a band's sound, and they mention a particular group as a formative influence on them, I've usually found that if I track down the music they say inspired them, I'll often like that earlier band's style as well. Rarely, that earlier band surpasses all imitators. Fairly recently, I noticed several favorite bands had influences in common...and those groups in turn named yet earlier bands. It led back, like a genealogy chart; to one common progenitor: Joy Division.
love will tear us apart
It is raw energy, his music and dancing were both raw and a bit on the scary side. Look at those eyes and you see pain.

best go-go dancer ever! love the moves!
Eternal Ian !
Ian Curtis was a big fan of Iggy Pop. He wasn't afraid to let loose on stage like Iggy did.
Excellently put, agent - thoughtful and accurate.
nunca dejara de ser el mejor
siento mucho haberme perdido este gran grupo, y los conocí por medio de su pelicula "control", buenísima! chicos con talento.
I just know these dance moves are going to show up in some capacity in my dreams tonight.
Fantástic sensacional Joy division Ian curtis e Band curto muito 👍👏😎🇧🇷🎸🎤🎶🎵🔊📢📀💿👀👁️👈👉
The music seems to take him over, one of the best front men ever period.
Wacthing from SP Brazil.

I really wanted to join him and feel the music with strange non-usuals moviments lol
Thank you, kind sr.
I would give just about anything to go back in time and see Joy Division live...

RIP to twenty-three. You packed a lot into those years Ian.
Greatest band, as well as Ian was and always will be an original lyrical genius. No doubt, just Accept it.
This is awesome! I'm gonna learn this dance with my 9 year old son.
youre the best ian! R.I.P.
So glad music was his outlet, too channel all that "crazy".
amazing
thanks for the video
Iconic
thank you so much : )
I have epilepsy and I feel very identified with his movements
He was mimicking his epilepsy with his dancing. As if it to say "you're not going to beat me". Good on him.
Pure expression.
Brilliant 😊x
dancing like heaven
Dance you beautiful man, dance!
Te amo Ian
His dancing reminds me of Crispin Glovers dancing in Friday the 13th part 4: The Final Chapter. 😂
0:31,1:01,1:29 ian curtis forever!
Simplemente esta expresando su ritmo como siente la musica no es epilepsia
