I loved how James realized the emotions Iam was feeling and carried him through the remainder of the performance. When he sang 'You can feel my hand on your arms' he reached for Iam, and reassured him that he understood and has his back. It gave Iam the boost he needed to carry on. I have a feeling that they will build a beautiful friendship from this experience.

And Iam said it painful even more when James grab his arm but Iam Tongi seem to pull it together. I cry every time i rewatch it ...

“You can feel my hand on your arm”….. I had a flashback of my Dad’s last breaths. My Dad was in a coma for the last 12 hours, no response to people touching him, until my Mom sat down next to him…no words were said when she touched his arm. He woke up solely by her touch. He looked her, and she said…”you can go now”. The look in his eyes were as if they were saying “finally and thank you”, and he passed away. For the last week of his life, he was at the end of a cancer battle….he said he was going to wait for my Mom to say it’s okay to go. That’s what he did…… That visual is forever etched in my mind and memory. Heartbreaking, but beautiful moment.

JR I had very same experience with mom, I touched her and said mom, it’s okay, we will be okay, she opened her eyes and for that brief moment there was life in her eyes, her soul broke through, as we locked gazes she smiled, she closed her eyes and departed. That moment is cemented in my memory and etched on my heart forevermore. It was a privilege and a blessing to be able to say Goodbye.

James came in clutch right in the nick of time. great duo

Iam is such a big teddy bear and I love that he shows that it’s OK to be vulnerable especially in grief. Bet there wasn’t a dry eye in there.

Seeing Iam breakdown is why I've watched so many reactions of both his and James' performances... to share my tears. This wasn't a miss at all, it's what we've all been feeling from the beginning and why we fell in love with Iam in the first place.

For me it was when Iam looked at him like Man I can’t do this!!! But he brought him through. I had never heard this song or of this guy but because of Iam this song is #1 I’m sure!❤

So Sorry for your loss

That was so deep and emotionally transformative. I have never seen something like that on TV. Loss is real and James wrote that song for his father and they Iam barely was able to finish and James powered through the song and then offered a hand to his shoulder to bring Iam back so they could try to finish. Wow, both were both so emotional and that is hard to carry through when one is that emo because the vocals shut down and start quiver. James Blunt really saved him with that partnership and took over... just that look at James... poor baby was overwhelmed with a superstar, in front of millions of people, and then in the final part of his time on American Idol... the pressure for sure. Poor baby... only 18... daddy just died 2 months prior.

If you listened to my explanation, i explained what I meant by he messed up. If you stop in the middle of singing in a final competition in and of itself then You messed up by logic. It’s not anything negative as it worked in his favour and made people love him more and James Blunt stepped in perfectly

James never lost his Dad, it was a close call, they had settled in on having to say goodbye, that's how the song was born and went viral and in going viral a relative came upon it and donated the organ needed so his Dad is alive... Iam is the one who lost his Dad a few months prior to American Idol.

A few people have commented on this, so I'll add my two cents. I think the "hand on your arm" was an adlib. The original line is "you can feel my hand on your own." I think James saw Iam struggling and changed it to "you can feel my hand on your arm," which is exactly what was going on. An amazing gesture that obviously helped Iam collect himself and power through the rest of the song. Either way, Iam was amazing, Listening to his voice is like putting a cashmere sweater around your heart. There's a bit of texture because it's all natural, but it's also soft, warm and soothing,

Thanks to Iam Tongi on American Idol I never would have heard this song. My dad passed 3wks ago May 4th 2023 an im bawling. My husband found this song yesterday and I feel this was a sign from my dad to not worry, he is ok. RIP DAD 2-10-56 - 5-4-23
