As an Englishman who moved to Asia, one of the things that I miss most are the frequent gaming conventions. I was a regular attendee at Salute and tried to get to Warfare and/or Colours as much as I could, but during convention season there averages one around every two weeks somewhere in the UK. Outside the UK/Europe they are just not as common and lack that middle ground between being big enough to have the diversity of seeing stuff thats new, while also small enough to feel friendly and get interaction with the games and people.

I was there this year and in 2019. It may have actually been a bit bigger in 2019! Also some people may like to know that in addition to the big trade halls one of the NEC's hotels hosts RPGs over the expo, with various games running from 9am until midnight on the Friday and Saturday and from 9am to 6pm on the Sunday - so longer than when the trade halls are open. I'm pretty sad that I didn't get to meet you, or Guy or any of the other KZreadrs who were there! Finally, if you're planning to stay overnight next year it's probably wise to sort out your accommodation sooner rather than later, as the prices for rooms in the area (and probably for nearby AirBnBs and the like too) quickly ramp up.

I didn't get to see it all and I was there all three days for work alongside OnTableTop haha. Strangely enough but covering it with videos and stuff often means you don't get time to actually play games unfortunately. BUT, that being said - it was a bunch of fun and it's well worth going to for two or three days if you can. I think it's my favourite convention alongside the likes of AdeptiCon, Spiel and GenCon - Salute is deffo the one to go to for wargaming though as you say. Always like seeing the display tables. I really liked The Old King's Crown if you missed out on that one. Stunning art :)

Gods. Seeing shows like this always makes me a bit jealous. We can barely get non-GW games at the moment, let alone have a bunch of companies turn up for an event like this. Even in the before times the closest event to this was mostly video games, anime stalls and a dozen booths selling the same printed t-shirts in wildly misjudged sizes (mostly Small and Medium, with nothing above XL). Tabletop gaming was limited to people teaching MtG and that was it.

In the US there are usually one or more local one day cons that pop up throughout the summer where you can get some quick demos for very little money and of course there are other conventions besides the big ones (that all seem to happen within a couple weeks of each other on opposite sides of the friggin continent) . BTW, When people hear us Americans complain about going to the other side of the country, remember that the Continental US is a bit bigger than Europe sans the Russian bit, so "Across the country" is like going from Galway to Istanbul With not nearly as nice scenery. The center of the US is known as the great plains for a reason.

Originally earlier in the year the plan was to go to this as the nec is very close to where I live. It certainly looks like other big shows I've been to at the nec in the past , where both days is a must. Though it looked quieter than the two biggest shows I'd tend to go to would typically be, but after the last couple of years typical is probably much changed. Unfortunately in February my body had other ideas and I've spent the time since slowly recovering from a broken ankle and leg. Hopefully next year I'll have enough mobility back for it to be viable.

I went there on the Saturday and it was great fun. I never get why the bring and buy is so popular. There are always massive queues to drop off and to browse but people don't tend to put sensible prices on their second hand board games. I think what happens is the good stuff that are bargains get snapped up really quickly because there's always a massive queue to get in there on the Friday and Saturday mornings. I think by the Sunday a lot of people have gone home, so have taken their unsold stuff home, and you're just left with the overpriced stuff.

I'd disagree about the bring and buy. It's well worth a look, just more so on the Friday or Saterday, since the good stuff gets snapped up quick, before its just the dreggs you can expect to get pretty new games or even weird old ones at half price or less.
