Voters in at least four villages in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district have accused the state police of confiscating identity cards and lathi-charging, thereby not letting people exercise their right to vote. The episode took place during the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 7. Incidentally, all of these villages happen to be Muslim-dominated.
I went to Obri, one of the villages where voting was stalled due to alleged violence at the polling station, and spoke to the residents about what unfolded on the polling day.

A minor correction Samdhish...(slip of tongue) There was a mistake in intro. you said they were denied of their voting right which is a their fundamental right, (but its a constitutional right under article 326 of constitution.)

This is nothing when compared to West Bengal's mobocracy since several decades till today to win elections by state ruling party's local goons, hooligans & bahubalis who threaten & seize people's voting rights, loot polling booths & rig elections (there were live reporting even this time), use guns,bombs to control elections & even common voters & duty workers remain terrified of their lives. And police see it. We also blame ECI, maybe they aren't strict enough to implement strict actions for such protection. During last local elections democracy was sluaghtered & bleeded. But we also receive almost no national coverage. This peope arleast receive even a pinch happen with them.

Hindutva and BJP tried to stop Muslims from giving votes; Hindus of the constituency saw that and overwhelmingly voted against BJP. This is an example of the unity of our country and secularism. No political party will be allowed to torture a section of our population and win votes. Even they lost in Ayodhya.

But it's been 7 years in UP now people have taken the mandate seeing the extreme right wing politics, negligible social mobility, caste atrocities (eg. Hathras), explicit inequality w Muslims (lower caste muslims taking the major brunt), demolition of houses for temple construction etc etc. Majority in India are looking for alternatives, bad is still better than worst. Maybe in 2027 UP people might again go for Yogi we never know. Personally, accountable and humble leader at the center without complete power now is what I will be enjoying the most.

It is a known fact that violence around voting centres induces fear in the poor and especially the marginalised. These strategies are used under almost every nationalistic regime to curb voter turn voter turnout. Little wonder then that low voter turnout almost always benefits the conservative party.

Nah that's not it. If one thing they do in following the rules and orders is go and vote to have SP representation. - This is at least from democracy point good as everyone deserves to see the representation as they see fit. OBC/ SC/ ST/ Muslims - can't avoid for exercising their rts, the little voice they have needs to be there. Already, tribes are highly affected by Modi's forest laws for commercial licence to cut trees etc. - But you won't find this enthusiasm, in any other civic act for development or reform. And it is this appeasement of SPA and Congress which has resulted in systemic racism within the police system even before BJP's entry in UP in 2016. - Unfortunately radical BJP like in all other options, has not shy away from eroding democracy here too !!

Brilliant work Samdish❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 it was heart breaking but at many places it made me feel proud how these people knew power of their vote. I see many fools around me from the comfort of their lavish homes saying I am not interested in politics or elections this time. They should see this video to have some shame & develop some spirit to participate in democracy. You can't change the voting demography of Haridwar and also vote in UP,you can only vote in 1 place,same was the case in Gaya Bihar where half of the people were also registered in Bengal.

This video was much needed. Situations like these make you think we are not far from dictatorship in our country, where the police, who are supposed to prevent these crimes, are actually very much complicit in them. It's scary if you sit and think about it.

Today I feel very ashamed of myself that I didn't vote. I've my excuse that i don't reside in my hometown and because of work and commitments I couldn't make it their. By watching these kind of videos I feel like people like me who are doing 9 to 5 are careless and on the other hand there are many people out their who go beyond and make these kind of effort. At the end of the day these are the people who are not leveraging their basic (fundamental) rights as well. Thank you Samdish for bringing these kind of videos for free I feel guilty and now I don't have right to comment on problems we are having as a country.

This is nothing when compared to West Bengal's mobocracy since several decades till today to win elections by state ruling party's local goons, hooligans & bahubalis who threaten & seize people's voting rights, loot polling booths & rig elections (there were live reporting even this time), use guns,bombs to control elections & even common voters & duty workers remain terrified of their lives. And police see it. We also blame ECI, maybe they aren't strict enough to implement strict actions for such protection. During last local elections democracy was sluaghtered & bleeded. But we also receive almost no national coverage. This peope arleast receive even a pinch happen with them.
