Fun fact. The geonosian weapons are sonic cannons. Not only does it seem to electrify whoever it hits. But because of the sonic vibration when it hits, it turns the clones insides into jello whenever they get hit

If I remember correctly the sonic cannons work by containing a pocket of sound waves vibrating in air within a bubble of plasma, which would explain the electrifying effect when it hits someone. However I read that on wookieepedia like 12 years ago so that could be wrong

I think I heard from somewhere that the clone we see hanging on to the gunship is the same clone who said “good thing those bugs can’t aim”. Also the geonosian starfighter was designed mainly for geonosian use so for other species it would have been extremely difficult and essentially a death sentence to fly it.

This is old lore but back in said old lore it was stated that geonosian star fighter pilots essentially were given birth to inside their ships and grew inside of them

Commander Cody doesn’t get enough credit. He’s the real MVP of the episode being the only one that actually made it, establishing a defensive position the best he could, coordinating rescue operation and holding out long enough for reinforcements so a counter attack can start, all the while being completely surrounded and overwhelmed

Agreed. I'm glad they didn't try and make war see cool though. Like yeah, the action is thrilling to watch, but when you consider what it would actually be like if you were there, you realize it'd be horrifying.

The clone at 11:52 was honestly impressive. Dude was sprinting at full speed and managed to hit a moving target in the air.

8:20 maybe the clone just got knocked out cuz the armor is supposed to spread the energy of the bolt around the body which renders them unconscious (if he survived) and lowers the chance for internal bleeding

Or like a High Explosive round with tanks, the force from it fragments the armor inward and sends shrapnel into the clone

Remember that just because a trooper is down doesn’t mean he’s dead. The armor was never meant to stop blasters entirely. The were mostly meant to turn killing shots into injuring shots. It’s sort of like a bullet proof vest. It doesn’t make the bullet bounce off, it just keeps it from killing you. Same with Stormtroopers

One detail I always noticed was at the beginning skywalkers team is late and thus unprepared for the battle, both Kenobi and Mundais armies have brown/redish armor while skywalkers are in the regular white armor

Curiosity, the camouflaged clones are from the Desert Clone Trooper class, in this case in a sand desert, the clones were not necessarily trained in that area but they could specialize, their armor is standard phase 1 and by choice of soldiers they could choose the helmet of ARF Trooper, on their shoulders they have an orange paint, it seems obvious but it is to identify their legion in the case the Attack Legion 212. The Flame-Troopers don't need to explain much, but their armor is prepared for incidents with fire, that is, it could have a tactic of soldiers surrounding the enemy and setting fire without worrying about hitting the friend will no longer work, the name of this armor is Hotspot MK2 and before this armor the used armor MK1 but it was replaced for not filtering the polluting gases of the clones properly which left them seriously injured.

the desert colored units with the strange helmets are actually part of Jet's unit, they're special operations clones that fought under jedi general Ki Adi Mundi, so it's likely they're a special detachment from the 21st there to assist the other regiments

In that final long shot of Anakin leading the clones into the shield, you can see that the Geonosians that yoink that one clone away have completely white eyes, indicating that they are undead. Cool to see that they included a detail like that for continuity.

“The Landing at Point Rain” is the one of if not my favorite episode of this show. These arcs are awesome and I’m glad that I’m not to r only person who views these as movies, as well. Although, I do love some of the good one offs, like “A Friend in Need.”

Idk if anyone else noticed this but at 9:28 where they show an overhead view of the landing zone. Notice all of the AT-TE's are leaning with the lower part facing outward and the inner part pushing upwards. That's a nice detail that the walkers are trying to provide more cover to the troopers inside the formation.

This could easily be a tactical choice of the clone pilots operating the AT-TEs, however, it is just as likely that the outer legs sustained damage that caused them to lean outward as the likelihood of the outer legs taking significant damage before the inner legs is high. In either scenario it provides a significant tactical advantage to the ground troops inside of the ring of tanks.

@@blakebeaton5821While that could be true the only time we see a walker ever lean other than this is when one of the legs have been completely blown off. (Im thinking of the one Ryloth Episode with Mace Windu) and when an AT-TE is hit they dont normally lean they kinda flinch or if completely destroyed they collapse or fall over completely which is why I believe it was a choice made by the pilots of the walkers.

6:15 that is how any invasion works. On D-Day, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Sicily, Gallipoli, every landing in history, many men never even set foot on the battlefield. Or only took a single step before being killed. War really is hell.

I always liked the armor design that Jet and his soldiers had, it sucks that they haven’t been in anything outside this arc. Their unit doesn’t even have a canon name

That’s one of my biggest nitpicks with series. I get that Anakin and Obi-wan are main characters so we’re going to see a lot of the 501st and 212th, but I still wish more units got time to shine.

Fun fact: According to legend material, when a geonosian shock blaster hits you it turns your insides to jelly, despite having armor. Even if you get strifed, it causes severe inner bleeding and the chance that you survive it is very slim, as it is shown in the excellent written legend clone wars book: "Labyrinth of evil"

Fun fact about the moment where a bomber saved Kenboi and the 212th, Ki Adi Mundi actually requested one earlier but Yularen, being salty about the “there’s no such thing as luck” moment claimed he didn’t have a Y-wing to spare. Then only a few minutes later, when requested by Skywalker, Yularen, having gotten to sort of like Skywalker, grants the request. Moral of the story, don’t piss off the guy in charge of your ships.

im now a bigger fan of the clone wars because of these videos. make me realize how much attention to detail they give on shots that most viewers would barely even notice

You didn’t highlight perhaps the most brutal blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of this episode. During the battle in the caves, one Geonosian attacks with a dagger and stabs a clone in the neck.

Fun Fact: The Geonosion ships use hundreds of little tractor beams to aim their cannon. That's why the Geonosions were so deadly. So when that clone said "Good thing these bugs can't aim", he couldn't have been further from the truth.

“Why do some slowly burn and others explode.” Probably the angle and location of the hit. The one that slowly burns looks like it was an angled shot on the wing, where as the ship with the guy who said good thing they can’t aim was a direct shot to the center.

12:38 Geonosisians are polymorphic and different classed. This guy was a worker drone who was wingless and lacked body armor. The workers who want to rank up either join the military as a pilot or technician or becoming a gladiator.

Ok, I have two things to mention here: 1: I always wondered that, if you could see blaster bolts as vividly or if it's just played up to make it easier for viewers 2: this arc was the first time I noticed how intense the soundtrack can get, like when they charge the ray shield those vocals just come out of nowhere

Star wars lives through this guy and I am happy to see all the start wars episodes in slow mode

Lore wise, if I remember my right, not every hit is an instant kill. The clones’ armor is supposed to disperse the force of the blaster impact across their body. Which isn’t fun. And they’ll usually get knocked out. Depends on where they get hit. If I’m wrong, someone please correct me.

Not every clone you see lying on the ground is dead. One of the first ones you count, has a medic running to his aid, meaning he is still alive, - just badly hurt

I recently got this stellar book called "Battles that changed the Galaxy", and I love it. Feels like a History book on the wars across the Canon Star Wars. For Legends fans, I recommend "The Essential Guide to Warfare". When you look at the wars and how each of them were fought differently, it really sets in the immersion.

As I re-watched Clone Wars to prep for season 7. One of the things I noticed in this arc. Was when they were fighting the Geonosains with the flame throwers, a Clone gets stabbed in the neck by one. It's really hard to notice, because it happens so fast.

As others have said, not all hits result in a dead clone, there is a significant chance they only get knocked out (really bad considering how long they are out, but not as bad as dead, maybe)

The reason that some gunships just explode and some can crash land is because of where they get hit, like a glancing shot to the wing or cargo bay can usually still fly enough to land, whereas, if the pilots or engines get hit, it is more likely to crash, this led to a phenomenon IRL during WW2 where the planes that returned were armored in the areas that had the most bullet holes, when they should have armored the areas that didn't have bullet holes, because those planes did not come back, it was called survivor bias. Edit: The green blasters used by the Geonosians are sonic weapons so that during clan warfare underground, they do not cause cave ins, which has a devastating vibrational effect on organic beings and renders armor basically useless which is why you see the effect similar to an ion grenade used on droids.

The clone trooper who had the blaster bolt reflect off his armor how he died wasn't from the bolt itself but the damage he sustained from being hit by the bolt, (by the looks of the bolt it seems to be one of the turret bolts which means a high caliber blaster bolt so taking a hit from this as a human/clone would cause broken bones internal hemorrhages and possible organ failure such as lung collapse kidney shutdown or heart complications all of which could lead to death before a medic could attend to them the sad reality of war.)

It's always the battles of Geonosis that are my favorite, just like the battle of Umbara

I think the reasons why some seem to take a hit and only take slight damage, while others get obliterated, is based on both where they are hit, and whether it was the Interceptors that hit the dropship or if it was the AA canons from the ground.

As i understand it the clone who's armour reflected the bolt didnt die. The point of clone armour which was strongest covering the vitals could deflect/absord the hit of a blaster however this would result in the clone being rendered unconscious rather than the bolt killing him. I could be wrong but as i remember thats how clone armour functioned.

As an Australian I approve the message of taking a military grade flamethrower to a swarm of bugs and utter roasting an entire species.

Clone (and stormtrooper) armor blocked most of the energy from the blaster bolts so the wearer was more likely to survive a direct hit rather than being killed. I guess it's similar to a kevlar vest in the real world where the fibers absorb some of the kinetic energy so a bullet is less likely to penetrate and wound but it still hurts to be shot. Apparently it feels like being hit with a baseball bat and victims can sometimes suffer bruises or broken bones.

2:24 The pilot actually dodged it too, so without the pilot having great reflexes it WOULD have taken down two gunships.

7:50 hmm. What's also interesting is that the shot was meant for Ahsoka but she moved out of the way last second. What if the reason it bounces is because in an earlier pass she blocks it, but was later changed to the clone getting hit, and they just forgot to delete the bolt bouncing?

To be fair some of those troopers might not be dead. Rex was hit with a sniper and lived. So especially with that reflected one he just might have been incapacitated.

The armor is actually ment to knock them out and deflect blaster bolts, same thing with stormtrooper armor. (I think)

I love the fact that our boi Michael doesn’t understand what artillery is in this video, and tries to come up with all these other explanations for the explosions.

"Why do some slowly burn and others explode" Part of it has to do with where they're hit, part of it is the type of weapon they're hit with (whatever the energy-weapon equivalent of caliber is), and part of it is the angle they're hit at. A 90 degree hit will do a lot more damage than a hit from 45 degrees (hence angled armor in the real world).

8:21 is cause by blunt trauma. For instance, when your metal armor was hit by a bullet. Even if the metal layer of armor has protected you from the attack. It will cause internal bleeding and bruising. I saw this trivia in YT about kevlar layering. Explaining that being shot by only using a metal plate is dangerous because of blunt trauma after being shot.

There is a difference in the crashes of kenobi and skywalker, skywalkers pilot pulled the nose up at the last minute, thus slowing the ship down on impact and making it easier to survive. Obi Wan’s pilot lost control, thus meaning that the gunship landed on its belly, making it harder to survive. That being the reason obi wan was the only survivor, while anikin had his whole squad

ngl i find it funny that the bolt which appears like it get's deflected by the clone armor at 8:20 was most likely a leftover bit from when ahsoka is using her lightsaber as the positions line up with where he ends up contrast to where she was

The trooper that double tapped the bug actually tripple tapped the geonosian.

The clone that deflected probably died a horrible deaths as clone armor is built to absorb heat (like plasma) so if the hit was not absorbed or punctured the armor that means it not hot enough be absorbed or puncture the armor so that means it was either a cold blast or it was a misfire and the blast splinted on contact

Star Wars guns work by energy packs charging up a superheated bolt of plasma so if it was not hot enough or to hot to be absorbed it either bounced off and he’s fine or it splinted and he got all of his bones broken Ps geanosian green guns melt your organs

Its alot darker when you realise what those sonic blasters do, whenever a organ is hit by it the gun liquifies all your organs and the only thing that holds the clones shape when he's hit is his armor.

The ship with the twi'lek on it you mentioned at 2:55, the writing actually is aurabesh, it's just stylized. It says "Lucky Lekku".

Answering your question, I imagine there’s fewer exploding bits in the wings that the fuselage. Or the cannon fire tears through the wing whereas it detonates in the fuselage because there’s more material.

(Not so) fun fact: the Geonosian sonic blasters actually liquefy the insides of their target, as stated in the ROTS novelization.

With how pretty much all the Jedi found themselves shot down, it feel like maybe they shouldn’t have sent the generals with the first wave. Seems really risky to me, but I guess they lead by example. Plus it’s not like I want clones to die either

It’s likely that the ones that just completely detonate are hit by large caliber ground AA, while the others are hit by the weaker light blaster cannons on the fighters

The funniest thing is that in episode 19 season 2, anakin is cutting the cockpit of the space ship to escape the the zillo beast and obi wan says to windu "Just make sure to catch them when they fall" and rex says "alot of Skywalkers plans involve falling" which I thought was pretty interesting because he referencing when he got thrown off the bridge

I imagine the bugs barrel roll together cus those lower class warriors are probably part of the hive mind, not independent like the higher ups, and they probably maneuver really well together

From personal experience with animation the parts where the clone troopers "try and evade" a frame before their death is probably just the death animation offset by a frame. When your making a death animation or any kind of fast animation (crash impact, blaster laser or death) it's easy to get it right when playing it in video but on a frame by frame basis it looks really unsynced.

I want a Star Wars game where you get to explore Old Combat areas to just fully explore. No Combat Maybe some small dialog But just , complete exploration..
