I never expect to see reactions to this - very few people seem to actually know or remember it. I saw it first in the waiting room for a psychiatrist visit, but I've watched it through a few times (we happened to have a blu-ray disk for it that I was able to watch), and I've never forgotten it. It's not a movie I would expect to like as much as I do (although I wouldn't expect to dislike it either), but something about it just makes it really good, in addition to the nostalgia factor (which is always a very strong factor for me for some reason, even though I'm only 20). And I love the style choices, especially how they used the camera perspectives throughout the movie. And even though I wouldn't really remember any specific song, the soundtrack is very good as well, which is usually the most important factor for me.

The story of the elder penguins making surfing is taken from the real stories of how surfing was invented. There's documentaries on it and they're so worth watching, it's a very sentimental sport for lots of folks

34:40 you know, funny thing is, skateboarding was literally started so surfers could keep going even on land and when waves were low, just boarding around wherever and whenever they felt. Love this whole movie, the animation, acting, immersive down to earth cinematography, the whole lesson on being caught up in fame and success vs the real heart and soul, just aughhh

I’ve seen this movie a million times, but I never noticed how incredible the acting is until now. The characters don’t talk like they’re in a movie, they talk like anyone else would in real life; stumbling with their words, interrupting/talking over each other in a conversation, having to think as they go while being interviewed. It almost feels like there was no script at all. This movie flows so naturally that you don’t even think about details like that.

Same! I watched it a million times too but I guess as a kid never paid that much attention to the voice acting

So glad to see a reaction to this! Thank you! One of the amazing things about this film is that it had no script -- the directors told the actors what points they needed to hit during any given scene and the actors ad-libbed the dialogue.

What a fun movie! The documentary style is so well done, and I like how it connects with the feeling of fun of surfing

you should see the behind the scenes done on this. yes, it is CGI, and yes, actors provided the voices... but there was a lot more to it than that, that made filming this movie unique.

This is one of my childhood favourite. My uncles a surfer and he put this on for me and my brother when we stayed with him one summer. So many good memories with this film. My son who’s autistic is animal and beach obsessed and loves this film

Search up is an underrated movie one of my favorites to this day and my favorites growing up so different showing the view of the character in a documentary!!! Best actors for the main character Cody Shania LeBoeuf, big Z Jeff Bridges, and Reggie Voice actor James woods known for his role as Hades from Disney Hercules. This movie serfs up has awesome characters cast on music and one great plot about surfing!!!!

YES!!!! This is easily in my all time top 5 movies. It just leaves me with the biggest smile on my face at the end. THANK YOU! I bought the DVD with the "behind the scenes/making of" documentaries, and the animation technique they used to create the waves, didn't exist before

Please go on a Shia LeBeouf run! He has such good movies! I’ll give you a few. He’s one of the best actors of this generation in my personal opinion Fury (star studded cast, brutally beautiful movie) Peanut Butter Falcon (sweet story about growth and trust) Honey Boy (heartbreaking story about Shia’s upbringing where he also plays his own father in the film) Disturbia (funny, entertaining, heartfelt suspense thriller) Eagle Eye (interesting concept and just like Shia’s acting in it) Lawless (based on a true story, also start studded cast and brilliant acting by Shia, Tom Hardy and Guy Pierce)

Disturbia and Holes are 2 really good movies with Shia LaBeouf are in.

yeah surf's up 2 isn't the same thing it's kind of just a semi-unrelated direct to video sequel, it wasn't special like surf's up, which is a real unexpected hidden gem

If youre going to watch another Shia Levouf movie it should be Fury. And you should watch Grind, nothing to do with Shia, just a skateboarding roadtrip comedy
