But or Rent - Parent Trap - • The Parent Trap
In this update of a 1961 film, twins Annie and Hallie (Lindsay Lohan) are strangers until happenstance unites them. The preteen girls' divorced parents, Nick (Dennis Quaid) and Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson), are living on opposite sides of the Atlantic, each with one child. After meeting at camp, American Hallie and British-raised Annie engineer an identity swap, giving both the chance to spend time with the parent they've missed. If the scheme works, it might just make the family whole again.

The American girl meeting her mother never cut her hair, it was already short from the start of the camp. She also didn't pierce her ears, because they were already pierced. The British girl meeting her father had to cut her hair, or else explain how it grew 6 inches over a few weeks. She also had to pierce her ears, or explain how the holes went away. It just didn't get noticed because from the dad's perspective, his daughter always had shorter hair and pierced ears. The mom noticed, and from her perspective her daughter came home with her hair cut and new piercings, not knowing that particular daughter had always had that.

"Get back together for the kids!" I know that sounds good in theory, but couples who stay together only for the kids end up making themselves and often the kids miserable as well. Fortunately, these parents had more reasons than that :)

This was a remake of the 1961 Parent Trap. The actress that played Meredith's mother was the actress that played Vicky (the wicked fiance) in the original. I grew up on the old version, but i enjoyed the 98 remake. I thought they did the story justice. I loved the cameo of Vicky, but I had wanted a cameo of Hayley Mills, who played the twins in the original.

You asked for recommendations like this so here goes: "It Takes Two" (Olsen twins and Kirstie Alley), "Now and Then" (Demi Moore and Thora Birch), "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead" (Christina Applegate), "Ella Enchanted" (Anne Hathway), "Freaky Friday" (Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan), "What a Girl Wants" (Amanda Byrnes). "Freaky Friday" is a special one for me cause I watched it with my daughter when she was about 9 or 10 and she loved it. It became our movie and we even have the song saved and sing it in the car a lot. Also, you should've watched the original one first cause the older camp counselor and Meredith's mom were in the original 1961 movie. Meredith's mom played the possible new step mom. It was a little different too.

My recommendations would be A Little Princess, The Secret Garden and What a Girl Wants, if what you're looking for are touching reunion scenes. The first two are from the 1990s (there is a more recent The Secret Garden, which may be excellent for all I know, but I haven't seen it to recommend it)... so is the latter, probably, now that I think about it. 1990s or early 2000s.

At 18, I met a pair of identical twins (individually - apparently lol). By some freaky twist of circumstances, they were never in the same room at the same time the first 3 or 4 times I was in the room with one of them. Because everyone else already knew both of them, their names were never spoken in those initial encounters. By sheer happenstance, I was only formally introduced to one of them (let's call him "Mike"). It’s bonkers to reconsider it now, but when the group of friends that introduced me to Mike (and we were in a car outside of Mike’s house, which I had just been inside of) were wondering whether or not “Mark” was going to go to dinner with us… my brain was asking, “Who the F is Mark?!?” LOL. Once I realized that there were two of them, they didn’t look remotely alike.

The twin thing is actually a pretty easy trick to do. You get the actor/actress and another who looks like them. They have spots marked on the floor for where they stand and they do the scene twice with the actor/actress being in one character's spot and says their lines, and then switches over and says the other characters lines. Then they just put the two scenes together into one and you have your twins.

It came out in the 90s (can't recall off the cuff if it came out before this remake or not) but it has a similar feel-good vibe and has a cast that does a great job of lending its own comedy to each role. He has his wine Vinyard to grow and watch over and a huge business that's all based there, where Mom is such a Huge name in the Wedding dress industry that people come from all over the world for her Gowns. So they will come to her weather she is still in the fashion district of high living London or if they have to go to California to talk to her. Plus she can even keep her London Studio too and only come in occasionally when needed or doing fashion shoots. Plus High end Fashion Mogals fly around the world all the time. So if she needs to be in London two days a week working on new dresses etc then spend rest of time in California with the family.

A dark horse for me would be "The Ultimate Gift" with a young and extremely brilliant Abigail Breslin, James Garner, and Brian Dennehey. And then there's the masterpiece of child acting movies "My Sister's Keeper", with Breslin, Sophia Vassilieva, Alec Baldwin, Cameron Diaz, Jason Patric, and Joan Cusack. Ms. V was very good too.

Fun fact the blueprint for all Parent Traps is/was most likely the 1950s Novel "Das doppelte Lottchen" (The 2 Lotties) by Erich Kästner book released in Germany in 1949 TV film in 1950. Yes even for the 1995 Version with the Olsen-Twins, where they just end up being double gangers in the end 🤭 🤭

Have you watched Now and Then (1995)? A fantastic coming-of-age film geared toward girls, but everyone enjoys it, and something your daughters will enjoy someday. For a father/daughter-type movie, I recommend Gifted (2017). Lindsay began acting at the age of three and had appeared in over 60 television commercials by the age of ten, which is an impressive feat for any actor. Then she spent a year on the soap opera Another World. Soap opera acting is extremely fast-paced, with dozens of pages of dialogue and no takes; it prepares you like nothing else when it comes to acting.

Oh and I'm from holland !! So also a Dutchiee in your youtube subs 🇱🇺 like an ex foster kid, and someone who loves movies! I recommend you watch "Instant Family" & "the blind side". Heart-warming film based on a true story. But both stories are full of humor and fun, and just like this film, great family stories. (Maybe also fun to watch with your wife, you guys are a lot of fun together)! 🤗

To truly appreciate this movie, you really need to watch the original. The girlfriend/fiance in the original now plays the girlfriend's mom! They also have a nod to a song from the original ("Let's Get Together ").

3 movies I think you should consider in the future, based off of your request for similar type feeling movies like this; would be: 1. A Little Princess- A must watch for a girl Dad 2. The Secret Garden- Very hard hitting, but one of the best 3. Jungle to Jungle- More of a family comedy. I think you'd enjoy them very much 😊

This is actually a remake of the original Disney Parent Trap that came out in the 60’s it’s definitely worth checking out ! I’d love to see your take on it

It's a improvement over the original film. There are some great stories associated with the making of this films and some unexpected real friendships came out of its making. Chessy ( lisa Ann Walter) and Meredith(Elaine Hendrix.) became besties during its making and hang out even today. Lisa also counts Martin (Simon Kunz) as one of her best friends. All of the cast speak so highly of Natasha Richardson and Liam Neeson, saying they really looked after us when we were promoting the film, organising outings and theatre trips and private dinners.

Good watch! I liked the story. I liked the great performance of Lindsay and both Natasha Richardson and Dennis Quaid. Although Lindsay stars as both twins, she did a great job playing both roles but still providing a difference in both characters.

I’ve watched this movie so many times as a kid and as an adult. I still remember when I first saw it as a kid I thought Lindsay Lohan really was two girls. Blew my mind when I learned it was one person! The CGI/body doubling was ahead of its time for a 90s flick. Still one of my favorite movies ever.
