Good to see your face in your video for a change. Setup sahi toh hai.. Chota yah bada pharak nai padta.. Mehnat ki kamayi hai. You're absolutely right to be proud of it.

One of the main reason for its delay is the character named "Sita" whom is a prostitute and kind of love interest of main character. You can have a prostitute character named Sita in movies but u can't if your movie is inspired from Ramayana. I can see how it can be problematic for some.

Yup I agree with you. But I also think that Dev Patel tried to make a metaphor that how Mata Sita was captured by Ravan and was helpless and needed help. But I think that Agar apko aisa hi metaphor set karna tha to iske aur bhi kafi tarike the but instead he chose one of the most controversial way. And that ki us character ka naam censor board change karwa sakti thi for the Indian version and also ki Dev Patel ko aur bhi thoda sa careful rehna chahiye tha ki aap kiska metaphor kisse establish kar rahe ho. But again isko dub karke release kiya jaa sakta tha I dont think ki a ban was a good option

Another reason for its ban can be the election season, since they are portraying the establishment in very bad light and also unnecessary words like "minority suffering"and "transphobia". Essentially it is a good movie but looks like Newyork times financed it. Movie settings doesn't really represent India at all.

I think when Ram ordered Mata Sita to give the Agnipariksha again and she went into Earth, that was enough Insult for her. People of those days questioned her Character, and our "Lord" Rama indirectly supported them, it was his most Coward descision to question her wife. That's why Dev has used this Metaphor.

Amazing setup; would change a couple of things. - Your light sources have significant hotspots, so going for a diffuser would definitely help soften it more. Aputure/Zhiyun ki lights (relatively) saste mein il jaati hai aur diffusers bhi thik thaak price mein mil jayenge. - Shot mein thodi se depth kam hai (all the props are at the same distance). Yogi baba wale part ko blooming ki jagah thoda proper expose kar sako to achha hai, aur left mein kuch nahi hai. Ek do cheez camera ke paas, ek do door hongi to kaafi better lagega. - Lower the camera just a little bit. - Mic thoda tilted hai (love the analog aesthetic tho). - If possible, add a couple of prop lamps!

I think people are frustrated about them being stereotyped by the west and their religion being clowned upon. I am an atheist so it doesn't matter to me, but I understand the matter of pride and identity

Even if a prostitute named sita (which is common name and someone being a prostitute does not automatically makw them a bad person or relation to them is something bad; they are mostly victim of circumstances) is there and even if the film is hinduphobic (which it isn't for anyone who actually saw it). The film has all the right to release. We are a democracy and our core foundation is free speech. And yes this also stands if the film was islamophobic or something like that (yes the left would go mad; but that didn't stop fighters, animal, padmaavat, or Vishwaroopam from releasing). The point here is. You have all rights to boycott the film if you think it hurts your sentiment. But banning or suppressing free speech isn't. And it only takes up backwards as society. The fact that we still call for ban for anything we disagree is fucking heartbreaking. And then we have the gall to teach in social studies, "India is the largest democracy". Largest democracy. Lol. I still sometimes feel like we are stuck in middle ages.

The main character is a boy who becomes a man. His evil enemies took away his childhood and he was Left all alone, just with a memory of his mom a very dedicated mother. The main character becomes the bounty hunter and on his mind is revenge, but he found good people who were on his side so that revenge became justice. I believe that his mom memory lives in his heart and that's why he sacrificed his own life to bring justice for his people and for himself. He fought against a religion that was taken his people by force and many lives were lost. The monkey man is a warrior born to bring justice and balance. Good movie doesn't need to be banned because it's an action movie and it was given all types of emotions. Well played by the actor.

Kudos to you for trying your best to put forth an unbiased POV of everything depicted in this movie, but honestly we clearly know there isn't anything wrong with the topics and how they are dealt with in the movie. And as simple as it is to understand that the only reason it's being stalled is coz some very specific and obvious people/ideologies are gonna be butthurt for being called out for what's actually true. I wish more people could come to appreciate this "perspective". Btw, good point on the relevance of struggle to the plot.

Don't try to normalise that ramayana is mythology not a history.. we all know this is our history.. and west always try to this things by saying our culture is just a mythology not a history

ramayana is mythology because it's a mythic epic. a piece of literature. it cannot be equated to history. history is scientific and based on anthropology, and proof.

I too watched the movie, but i disagree with you on one point, his motive was revenge. But then, the main antagonist was going to do same thing to someone that he did to him/her mother (Land grabbing), he did help them, gave them purpose, great portrayal of a messianic figure intervowen with utmost subtlety and it's beautiful. As a Hindu, the movie makes you ick at some places. But as a cinephile, it was one hell of a experience, terrific movie in every aspect be it plot, acting, direction, progression and pacing of the movie, just amazing. Nothing felt out of place to me. Perfectly written and executed piece of Art.

i'm so used to yogi baba's animated avatar that my mind automatically connects his voice to it and seeing the voice come out of a real human was surprising lol

Literally 100 generations of Ram‘s ancestors and descendants have been named in Ramayana, every ancestor of Ram has their individual biography written by different authors of different timelines. Every place they visited became a religious landmark by itself, there might be 1000s of such landmarks existing even now from North to South ( I’m from Karnataka myself, and we have a landmark in my birthplace as well ). Every character in Ramayana has their own individual biography and again landmarks associated with them. Name any mythology in any country in the world, where every nook and corner of that country assosciates itself with its protagonist.

I’ve seen this movie here in the US, and the only thing my friend complained, when it comes to the social commentary aspect, is the slum dog millionaire style showing of poverty.. He is kinda done with just that side of representation of India, which I partially agree with.. what I see is that how much Dev Patel was able to achieve with such a low budget, and a great Dany Boyle influence..

honestly, i just watch the movie last week and i personally loved it. The action, the direction, it was good, there were some scenes poorly shot and the problems in the audio. but for a debut movies it was good.

Dev did something very courageous thing to produce write direct his own movie. He was tired of Hollywood giving him side kick roles. He said in an interview that he was embarrassed of his Indian roots but has embraced every bit of it now. I think he should get some encouragement from fellow Indians. I hope it gets released on the big screen.

That trans people arc was good, 2 scenes which I feel could provoke people were first that throwing god idol while stealing hotel lady's purse and idol photo in the brothel fight. Baaki politicial riot could be the major reason CBFC don't want to release it, cause if people get sensitive to 'Animal', is movie ka mix masala ending kuch bhi kara sakta hai.

Why are you comparing Hollywood to Bollywood? There are quite a lot of Hollywood movies criticising/out right insulting Christianity already (don't know about Islam, though. They were criticising it when 9/11 happened, but now they're overcorrecting). Hollywood hates Christianity, to them Christians are far right.

Bro, yaa toh tum bahut bhole ho yaa jaan much kar baht saari chiz ko najar andaaz kar rahe ho to be in a nuclear perspective but mind you, you will not be. Coz this justifies dev's character agenda to show India in wrong light that there's always religion, minority are oppressed by hindus and the politician in the movie makes it more obvious to show the current hon'ble PM in negative light. He has always shown India in a poor, filthy light.

thats my point if you could change your agenda and if you only focused on villain it could have been a good movie that would been release in india too but you showed prostitue girl name sita, hindus are oppressing minority , hindu baba is bad , gay people dont get rights in india , a hindu party is bad , and in one shot you showing one guy selling hindu god statue and then he throws it i mean come on men you could have shown some thing else ,dev is great actor a great director but he doesnt know whats happing in india what hindusim is , thats my problem with movie

Because it is made in india and the majority of Indians are hindus, for that it is good for marketing and lots of people can relate. And the muslim case, there are several movies which can be consider anti muslim .

Just like how Mexico is stereotyped as the drug portal, India is stereotyped. I don't like him or his acting, nor will I ever watch his films.

You can't make someone to believe in Ramayana if you are believing in it.
