I dont know if Bradys constant analysis is rubbing of on me but i caught myself thinking while reading your comment: Or we are all projecting our need for acceptance of who we are on that guy in spite of the games constant commentary that he really just goes along with all the crazy because he wants to finish this case and get on with his life and signs that maybe Kim generally has conflict difficulties and prefers the safety of his jobs defined rules and processes to lifes general messiness. Badge as Shield and so forth. I mean, the guy literally cosplays military uniform. 🤣🫣 Btw i dont mean that they dont develop a thing or Kims pretending or anything i love the dude just as much as anyone else.

@@KatwindThe Dolorian farewell made me sick to my stomach, I get incredibly uncomfortable just thinking about it. I’m married, in a relationship that we’ve both had to work extremely hard to make work since college, but still deeply in love; and that scene is all my worst fears about life and love made manifest. I really was not prepared for a game that did that.

"I'm trash at playing the game, our playthrough is a total mess, I'm missing all kinds of things" Yes, you're doing a great lore-accurate roleplay of Raphael! I love it, don't change a thing!

My favorite interpretation of Kim is that Raphael isn't the worst cop he's been partnered with, at least as long as he's not persistently racist. "Kimball" Kitsuragi has had to take a lot of shit for a long time, but damn he's a professional about it. What a phenomenal character.

The playthrough so far has absolutely not been garbage. The game is meant to be played with an unbalanced build that misses most of the content. As long as you always go to sleep, dedicate to the path you take, and eventually run out of ways not to solve the case in a few days, you'll be playing the game well, and I think you can do it Brady.

while Tequila Sunset might be a smelly piece of pos, at least he's REALLY good at being a detective. Probably most of RCM isn't that.

Kim is exactly the sort of character that Disco Elysium needed, because it's so easy to fall into a self-pity spiral for the main character because he is, frankly, a pitiful man. But there's good in him too, and Kim is the foil to bring out that goodness. When you do good detective work he congratulates you, when you're in despair he finds a silver lining, when you're getting out of control he reels you back in. Kim is like, fantasy wish-fulfillment for a friend who will always support your journey to self-improvement.

Kim is the bestest boi and must be protected at all costs lol Also an amusing fun fact about how the devs made Kim: There was no iteration or anything on Kim's design and personality. The concept artist just drew him one day exactly as he appears in the final game and pretty much everyone unanimously agreed that he was perfect.

I think one thing that might've helped you in getting Kim's real feelings was letting the game speak for itself a little longer before coming in with the therapeutic analysis. It's natural to project your own biases and headcanons onto what's happening in the game otherwise. Still, I'm loving your playthrough!

In general, Kim is just a pretty difficult person to read, which is something that is very much deliberate on his part. He puts up an image of being the sturdiest stone wall of a man you will ever see in your life, if you could look at his stat sheet he'd probably have Composure as one of, if not his highest stats. He's trying and very much succeeding to be the model image of a professional and competent police man, unshakable and reliable. Because of this, you'll have to rely almost entirely on Esprit de Corps to tell you what Kim is actually thinking in any given moment.

Very much this. This game takes place over the course of a week. Characters grow and evolve over the course of that time.

i think i fell in love with Kim instantly because he was so chill and was patient with my unhinged main character idk. it brought me so much joy when the game said “Kim smiles” or when Kim is impressed. i really need a person like Kim 😢❤ love your playthrough and streams btw!!❤❤❤

I love these types of videos it’s kind of like a journal entry from a sailor.

In regards to Kim, there's a very subtle exchange from a police detective from The Wire (a show that the creators admit to taking inspiration from), called Lester Freamon, that always comes to mind as to illustrating Kim's consummately professional persistence in approach to his job and co-workers: "You know what you're doing, but you ain't been doing it. How long have you been in the Pawn Shop Unit?" "13 years and 4 months." "13 years?!" "...and 4 months." "I gotta ask you...what exactly does a police officer assigned to the Pawn Shop Unit do?" "You intake reports from all registered pawn shops for all missing items of value over 50$. Then you make an index card for that item. Then you FILE that index card. If someone wants to find if their stolen item has been pawned, we look if we have an index card. If we do, we do. If we don't, we don't." "And you did that for 13 years?!" "...and 4 months." "Why'd you ask to go there out of Homicide?" "Wasn't no 'ask' about it." "You got the boot?" "Uh-huh." "What'd you do to piss them off?" "...police work."

My last name is french. I'm about 1/8th french, I think. But nobody on the street asks me if I feel in tune with my french heritage. That's because of the way I look: I look like them, so they see me as one of them. I also have very little interest in France. I didn't say anything in the last video, I'm not even treated as part of a minority, and I thought how the whole "but you're asian, you look asian, obviously you're in denial about your asian roots" felt so weird... I didn't even look at the comments that time, so I didn't feel the need to call anyone out. But anyway, kudos on everyone for expressing their discomfort and on you for acknowledging it.

Its an absolute joy to watch you experience the game through your professional lens and how it sometimes leads to hilarious misinterpretations. Its also amazing you still dont know your characters real name and face. Cant wait for that reveal!

I’m really appreciative you even thought to make a official video about this! It’s really uncommon for there to be this kind of dialogue with an audience and it just makes me more hyped for the let’s play! (Speaking as someone who can relate to Kim as well, I find your series fascinating and really cool)

Not to be a kiss-ass, but this is kinda demonstrating why I'm finding this playthrough so good. Obviously, there's game mechanics and a lot of political commentary that is not being touched upon, but I'm really loving this level of psychological analysis. Maybe it's especially working on my inner psych student, but the fact that the person *playing* the game ended up as part of the analysis is really interesting and engaging to me. And hey, if we get this level of discussion on the psych level, I don't *also* need to hear Brady's takes on communism (not that I would mind lmao). There's other playthroughs that go into sociopolitical theory, but the psych perspective is really good and unique to this one.

I’m honestly stunned by the respectfulness showed by the community here, especially when it comes to a game with a large fandom. Y’all are awesome. On the other hand, I feel inclined to warn that many people on the internet can be much less cool about this. Ideally we would be able to detach emotionally and calmly evaluate even rude statements, but I personally know that this can be tough. My advice: if a genuinely mean comment induces distress to the point where the point where you can’t critically evaluate it, it might be better just to pay it no mind. Most people who get this way are looking for a reaction, anyway.

Kim's character design and background is exactly like my own: a foreigner to a land he was born in, before he was even born into it. I speak reciprocated English, I've grown up with a British education and lived a life fully in British culture; but my name and face and slightly different accentuation in this "Parliament English" dialect means i will always be a foreigner in the UK. I was hoping it would dawn on you, in-between and interspersed throughout the sociopolitical commentary Disco Elysium explores, why Kim is the way he is. But then I realised my perspective and the perspective you have explained in this video, are like one-way mirrors looking at the other - until you take a step back and obtain a different viewpoint, you won't realise you can't see your own reflection. The game is built on the foundation that everyone and everything has a bias, but some are easier to deduce than others. Especially your player-own. Love your vids and playthrough, Brady - keep it up and keep on learning 🤜🏼🤛🏼

You are not just a professional, you are a good person. Not everyone can analyze themselves and admit mistakes. Don't be afraid of chaotic playstyle. There is no wrong way to play this game - (if you read carefully and dont skip dialogues ofc), no matter how you play, how you move on the map, and which decisions you pick. It will be a good, your own playthrough. And it's a joy for all of us to be here. (Kim even had a line about chaotic running around at the end of the previous episode.)

I am so glad that you made this video! I discovered your channel the other day with the Disco Elysium Let's play and the part with Kim annoyed me way more than I would have imagined (being from a similar background as him). I thought about leaving a comment about that on the video, but I quickly realized that I wouldn't be able to write a constructive and polite at the moment. Moreover, being rude would just have been a transfer, and like you explained in the Let's Play: "those emotions weren't for you". Anyway, your channel is great and I'm really happy to have discovered it! And just as you help us discover things about ourselves and give us tools to work on them, I'm glad that you discovered something about yourself and are already working on it!

I said it before and I have to say it again: everyone needs at least one Kim at their side in real life! He is such a good emotional support character and you know that you can (literally if needed) lean on him when you need someone. The more you discover about your past in the game the more broken and flawed and totally destroyed you start to feel. But Kim can be your knight in shining armor if you allow your relationship to become that way. I have rarely loved a bunch of pixels that much ❤

I'm really glad that there is a space like this one where people are allowing themselves to be real and vulnerable to discuss common experiences with mindfulness and understanding. This is the most introspective Let's Play I've ever seen.

Obviously this is really good and responsible to bring up, and useful in reteaching ideas you were before, and it’s really respectable of you to do this, but I’d like to point out the kind of funny irony of saying “I don’t know about politics” and then accidentally misconstruing a political theme in a way that was accidentally rude and a tiny bit offensive Or, I suppose that isn’t irony. It’s pretty straightforward lol (not to be mean, it’s just funny) Disco Elysium is a great game and it’s very driven by its socioeconomic themes. A lot of people don’t know exactly how to deal with it since most games aren’t so political, but I think it’s a strength of its narrative and themes, despite how uncomfortable it can get at times. Hope you continue to enjoy it!

I just wanted to drop a comment saying thanks for making this video, Brady! Because of it I ended up going back to that video (the "I'm starting to trust Kim...a little" one, if anyone's curious) and read the comments in question, and because of that, I learned a lot too! I'd especially recommend anyone who's interested look for @xavvi's comment about being an American person of Mexican descent having similar experiences as Kim. It was really insightful.

Refreshing honesty, introspection, and self-awareness in this day and age. The vast majority of people in this country should watch this video and take this lesson to heart. This is how you take responsibility, learn, and grow.

Absolutely. Even though he didn't mean anything wrong by it and nobody was demanding that he be publicly crucified or anything, he still took the time to acknowledge that, look into it, and give credit where it's due. It doesn't just take strength, it takes insight, humility, and genuine self-reflection.

To be fair, your playthrough is the only one I've ever seen that was standoffish with Kim and that was a unique experience and perspective. And that gave lots of us a chance to think about things we might not otherwise have and share stories and experiences when we might have otherwise stayed quiet. There's value to that, especially when we can learn and grow as a result.

We live in a society where these kinda biases go unchecked often; and even if you're aware of the issues, being immersed in that society simply means that sometimes, these biases sneak their way in. Being willing to listen, and to check in with yourself, to understand the biases and to improve yourself, that's the best any of us can do.

Glad you’ve been able to come to such a healthy conclusion about this Brady, seeing some of your comments last video I was getting a bit worried that all the criticism was hurting you a bit more than was probably intended, and that’s not always something people can handle. So it’s a relief you were able to arrive in a good place in the end. DE is known to be quite mentally challenging: it asks you what you really know about the world, and about others, and about yourself. It is very uncomfortable at times, but it’s also strangely comforting as well in that it demonstrates such a complete understanding of human behavior. It’s okay to fuck up, what matters is that we can utilize our Volition (best voice btw) to pull ourselves out of that self-hate spiral that so many of us know too well, and once we do that, that is when we are finally able to improve as people. Genuinely, I think you are my favorite creator on this platform right now. Videos like yours are such a comfort to me, even if I don’t always agree with the conclusions you may come to. I agree that Disco Elysium is a very special game that can bring on genuine self-reflection and discovery, if you are willing to really engage with it. And you clearly are! I'm really impressed by the depth of your own self-reflection here. And I'm enjoying your playthrough so far too - it's unlike any other I've experienced or watched, and full of valuable insight from both your play-style and your analysis.

This just convinced me even more you know what you’re talking about. Everyone makes mistakes but not many can analyze themselves and admit it like that! It certainly speaks to this game’s ability to confront your ideals and induce self reflection, at least in my experience.

Those of us with an interest in psychology and therapy tend to picture things as being more complicated and complex than they really are. But, as the saying goes, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Kim is aloof and stand-offish about his Seolite "heritage" because he just plain doesn't see it as _his_ heritage, he's a proud Revacholiere. I don't think you were bad for trying to dig into it however, because it came from a place of genuine interest and a, albeit misguided, desire to help him It's very good you were able to recognize you were incorrect and admit to it; I think Kim would understand and forgive you if you with this explanation to him He's a bro like that

I think there is alot to be gained from disco elysium. I'd love to see you talk about why the different parts of the detective's personality react and interpret the way they do. Like how authority might take someone telling you about their experiences about a topic and tell you to be defensive. Until empathy chimes in to tell you that they are just sincerely trying to connect and help you.

God, i love how this game has something individual to offer for almost everyone, the way you view this game and what you got from it was very different than mine, though not completely foreign. Its the mark of a great piece of art, that it can appeal in so many different ways. Just recently i read a post about someone with DID, who had trouble communicating with their system. The game had resonated with them and actually helped them with their therapy progress.

Your playthrough is a joy to follow and I'm happy to see this addressed directly like this. The therapist becomes the therapee.

that is a interesting point you make about confronting bias instead of engaging them in a purely intellectual way. having a bias is about finding excuses about things you don't want to accept, you will never break your bias if you are only confronted with intellectual arguments, you need to be made to feel uncomfortable about your biases before you can deal with them. otherwise you will only find excuses because any argument will feel wrong.

This is a good video. Made me reflect on the times I've had to confront my own biases, prejudices, and assumptions. I don't think I tend to handle it with half as much grace as you did, and this is a good opportunity to think about why that might be.

commendable video! and don’t get too apologetic about being “bad at the game” while it can be frustrating to those who have played because they think you’re “missing the important parts” there’s really not much you can do to truly mess up the progression of the game, there are stories and secrets and clues to find all around. the game won’t let you fail at solving the case even if you miss some things (at least i don’t think so lol.) sometimes i think i know everything important about this game and then i’ll be playing again and find some game-changing plot i didn’t even know about. it’s truly crazy and wonderful

I start watching a new KZreadr and 13 days later there's an apology video, new record. No actually I understand your thinking behind it and appreciate that you took the time to say something rather than try to let it fade away. Race is a tough subject, and to apply purely logical (literally on a graph) thinking to an emotional subject like a person's relationship to their own mixed race identity, both internally and externally to the world, isn't really giving the depth to the subject that it deserves. I think you did well to say something.

This is a great introspection! I love your streams and how you engage with the characters.

I definitely felt a bit on edge when you treaded into that territory with Kim. However, I absolutely understand your misunderstanding regarding that line of questioning and I can see you genuinely were trying to educate people about a topic. I think it's great that you took the time to reflect and apologize for this, and I hope everyone is able to learn something about just how complex and multi-faceted people can be.

I always viewed your character (generally speaking) to be a substance-abusing child who needs that extreme feedback to his actions. Having someone who is professional and straight-laced is always going to cause friction, and that’s exactly what the main character hungers for. Pushing Kim’s buttons and seeing how he reacts is by design, and how we get drip fed his character arc (along with our own).

Damn, great video! After seeing all the comments after the last video I expected you to make a short comment maybe in the next video but not this. Great self reflection, it's not for granted to post it so personally online. Hope everyone stays as civil and calm as they have been (from what I've seen) and you don't take it too personally!

There's another perspective on Kim and his heritage - this is of course influenced by my personal experience as a POC living in Germany - removed from it's context, it is a bit odd to be proud to NOT speak a language. When I played it first, to me that line made me think Kim might struggle with internalized racism; rejecting a part of him outright to prove he is worthy of the respect that racists deny him, by getting a little closer to their picture of the "superior" human. It reminded me of my sister dyeing her hair blonde and wearing a cross in order to maybe escape some of the racism she faced in her college. Although that was more of a conscious, strategic choice. Of course, this is a lot of reading into things based on my personal experience; it might as well be that he simply does not consider Seol as any part of his identity, the same way that being a man isn't part of mine.

I think it has to do with his politics and morals. Seol is a xenophobic, isolationist empire. What we see from kim is an earnest, and a clear distaste for racism. Hell racism is one of the few ways you can truly get on Kim's bad side. So no, I always got a different read on it, but again, just like you, I might be letting a personal bias color things for me.

I read it as more of Kim pointing the ironic depth of his actual identity that conflicts with what people might assume about him. I feel that it may moreso be pride in his unique identity rather than pride of his country/culture. I would have to rewatch the clip to be sure of my opinion though.

My personal read is of course based on my personal experiences. As someone who is white passing in a very white country and the only thing tying me to my ancestry is my surname, it gets plenty annoying to field the questions about my heritage whenever someone gets curious about it. I get that mostly it's just innocent curiosity, but explaining my family history from like a 100 years ago every time someone gets curious gets very tedious when you've been raised just like everyone else in that country. It just becomes answering the FAQ until the other person is satisfied enough. I would gladly answer cultural questions about my home country but it becomes kind of awkward when they want you to answer questions about a culture that you have no clue about. I think the frustration would go double for anyone that doesn't pass for the majority ethnicity in any given country. It creates a kind of dissonance between who you think you are and the way others perceive you. Kim has Revacholian culture as his main identity and maybe feels like his ancestry is an anchor holding him down since he can't honestly embrace his ancestry because trying to do that would be kind of dishonest, make him feel like a poser and would give a win to the racists. It's like some Americans claiming they're Irish when the only thing they know about Ireland is some Americanized hoohaa about the country, except Kim is introspective enough to realize how cringe that'd be. the beauty of the games writing is that it makes you question your personal biases and start thinking more critically about everything you say and do -- because actions do have consequences and the words you say do matter. learning from consequences and learning that everyone has their own unique complex experiences is a big takeaway i got from DE. i relate to kim's story a lot so thanks for putting this out there. ❤

this game is something else. I actually planned on streaming my whole first playthrough, but, even though I had almost nobody watching I was feeling extremely unconfortable playing it for an audience, feeling exposed almost, so I killed the series. Came back one year later on my own time, without streaming, and absolutelly fell in love with the game. Then I found your channel which combines two things I love: DE and psychology. I feel bad you went through all of this, but that's the nature of putting your opinion on the internet, there's always going to be someone who's going to disagree with it. I'm loving the series and I'm excited for the next episode 😁

Thanks for this followup! While I didn’t really agree with your initial interpretation of Kim, it did make me consider alternate readings of his character. I do wonder whether Kim was ever curious about his Séolite background in his childhood before he was taught to reject it - I’m an immigrant and that kind of curiosity was encouraged in my household, but I’m not sure if this is the norm for people like Kim whose families were born in their country of citizenship but are not treated as such. In my own playthrough I did theorize that Kim might feel some underlying resentment at having to explicitly distance himself from part of his family history in order to be considered a true Revacholier. I believed him when he said he didn’t feel much connection with Séol to begin with, but his identity shouldn’t be something he has to prove to anyone if the world were fair. I can imagine the whole ordeal could feel like overcompensating just to be accepted, but that could also be me projecting some of my own experience. Either way Kim can be a pretty closed book, which is why I think discussions surrounding his character are so interesting. Anyways sorry for the long comment! I appreciated all the introspection in this video and I’m really loving your playthrough. Very excited to see more of Raphaël Ambrosius Cousteau’s grand adventures

dont hate yourself man, love the game. the game is so powerful it can make a therapist question their anxiety and bias. this game is great because we ALL grow from it.

Disco Elysium might be my favorite game of all time. I struggle to rate it but it's top 5 minimum. I've got issues with alcohol and addiction; nothing Raphael serious, but still not good. Also a deep seeded trauma that I only truly recognized a cpl years back. For all those reasons I resonated with Disco big time. Seeing you roleplay through it and treat the character like the traumatized blank slate he is, has been really fascinating. You are the perfect person to play this perfect game. And I love hearing the psychological reasoning behind your decisions.

Love your chaotic run this far and looking forward to seeing more. Got a little worried when you didn't stream last weekend, after the reactions you got. So please dont take this the wrong way, but it's a little frustrating when a streamer don't acknowledge the chat. It's impossible to register everything that is happening and it's a lot of work keeping the stream running and playing the game, especially this one. But in this stream the chat was trying to explain to you why you might be wrong and you either didn't see it or didn't acknowledge it. This will get easier over time and you'll get there

Appreciate the encouragement! I hear you, I could have definitely paid more attention to what chat was saying there at the time. Sometimes it will seem like I just don't have a lot of focus or that I miss things that are easy to see when you are watching back the vod, but there's just a lot that's going through your mind when you're streaming. I'm always monitoring stream health, making sure the connection is good, camera is in focus, chat is not getting spammed etc., thinking about whether or not the stream is entertaining, is it engaging enough, am I balancing it with enough humour, analysis, chat response, is the pacing of all of this good for playback when it comes to KZread, am I stuck in a dialogue too long, am I moving fast enought etc., and on top of that just responding thoughtfully to a very complex game it's just a lot of places where a bit of my focus is put that I tend to overlook stuff sometimes 😅 then I have my two little gremlins running around trying to sabotage the whole thing! But yeah, this conversation particularly is one I needed to pay more attention to. As you say, it will get easier the deeper into it I go.

@@eurobrady You and everyone viewing might benefit from a 'no spoilers' disclaimer too. Yesterdays stream had to many hardcore fans backseat gaming, as your audience grows it'll only get worse...

You know... maybe I'm just projecting, but I've personally always interpreted Kim as being on the spectrum. High functioning, of course and most likely not diagnosed, either. I feel like the writing gives off a few hints in that regard. For one, that he rarely seems to show much emotion, likely because he has learned from childhood on that him being emotional is often perceived as awkward, so he's masking over it. Whilst he will not always tell you everything, I don't believe he ever lies to you whatsoever, even a single time. He has niche interests that he is very interested in, but he knows better than to show how passionate he is about them. He is very tolerant of and patient with the player character, but in instances when he does openly disapprove of your actions, it's either because they are 1) racist towards him (let's just avoid those, shall we?), 2) blatantly stupid and dangerous (such as trying to pull the boots off the hanged man) or 3) they fit patterns of behavior that I would suspect he taught himself not to show in public, such as getting overly enthusiastic about specific things. It's also pretty clear that he does like to do things by the book and is not one for idle chatting. Notably, even though it's pretty obvious that the players qualifications for police work are hidden deep below a thick layer of drug-induced brain fog, he is still happy to let them do the bulk of the talking, only intervening if you make him uncomfortable or are about to violate regulations. He's much more comfortable letting the extroverted chaotic drunkard lead most interactions whilst he himself can stand back and observe. This might just be a wild guess from the left field, but I just feel like I'm recognizing a few things there or feel like I can interpret his actions and motivations in a way I can personally relate to.

I strongly agree with your assessment of Kim’s character. I find his way of perceiving and interacting with the world as well as other people to be deeply relatable as an autistic person.

Agreed, I see a lot of my own traits in Kim. Mind you, I also have some of Raphael’s - self taught haha But yeah, way more Kim’s

One of the key things with Kim is just that, he can leave you, he will tell you to fuck off and genuinely leave. If you're a racist continually he draws a line. Kim is an earnest good person, but only if you're an Earnest, good Mess in return. If you show you're someone who fundamentally hates him Kim won't bear with it.

Hey, I really enjoy watching you play this game, and your insights into the psychological aspects you encounter along the way are very interesting. I have to ask, have you ever watched the TV show Mr. Robot? It would be awesome material for you to react to as a therapist. I know you've changed the way you create reaction content, but I think this TV Show would be perfect for your channel, somehow.

I let others say more insightful things about what you reflected on, I just want to say something about the end again. You didn't miss anything important. In this game, you will *always* miss things. Sure, maybe there isn't much exploring going on, but that is absolutely ok. The game wants to be played the way you want to play it. And what is significant to you(the player) and to you(the character) is what matters.

I've always kinda thought that the white circle around kim's head in his portrait, is meant to represent a sphere of confidence and professionalism, so much so that he doesn't let your bullshit go to his head, compared to Jean, with his apathetic, almost resentment cause he's let Harry's bullshit for to long, and it's jaded him.

been really enjoying your playthrough! im an american asian with parents that came from cambodia and vietnam. i can totally see why kim would want to simply want to be "just a regular revacholier" bro just wants to fit in! but if i had the chance to talk to kim, id tell him "hey lets read into some history on our ancestors! cant be too bad!" although i do find it understanding, i do find it pretty sad because he deserves to feel secure and and confident about his roots.

Kim is just the guy you want around whether you are dealing with a badass investigation or a deep personal crisis. There is actually only one opportunity in the whole game to push him away - this is a really harsh and soul-bending scene...

You should pay more attention to the character portraits. They tell you a lot about the person they represent. I won't go into detail, but I will say that this game's design elements are PURPOSEFUL. Even the background elements of these portraits usually has a meaning.

I think you're very brave for making this video and acknowledging your mistakes, at the same time it was surely needed. As a white person who grew up in a 99% white country, internalized racism is something I battle as I interact more with people online and only then I start to realize that I need to think more about where the joke ends and someone else's feelings start, or even more subtly, what is going on in my head when I interact with a person of color and why do I think certain things even if they don't align with what I truly feel. I remember one time at an Asian culture festival in my country I saw an Indian looking girl in a beautiful dress and I wanted to compliment it, so I said in English "your dress is very beautiful", and she responded to me "what?" In our language. I was very taken aback, and repeated the same compliment in our language. She was very probably the same nationality as me, even though she didn't look like me. I think learning how to be an ally and confront our own reactions, or at least apologize if it's already too late to react appropriately, is the most we can do, and to try not to spread those misconceptions further so that maybe in the next generation those prejudices won't clutter our childrens' minds like they do with ours.

You mistakenly said something that came off in a way that you didn't intend, but you learned from it. It's cool, I'd say. I really like your playthrough, and I hope to see more of it. DE is like that. It's an interesting experience that pushes you around sometimes, and lets you do some deep self-reflection. Art is like that. It provides people with all kinds of experiences.

i really appreciate this response, and it honestly makes me a lot more excited to watch more of your play-through. i really hope it doesn’t deter you too much. i initially cringed a little bit at the tact you took, as someone who has faced similar sentiments before. although i think it’s important to note that that kind of “don’t you miss your culture” comment is very obviously a product of ignorance rather than any sort of ideological or malicious bigotry. it’s a perfect example of a micro aggression actually. i only wish more people could respond this thoughtfully and sincerely to making a dumb little micro aggression like this 😭

Love the rigorous self-critique

I discovered you with this playthrough of this game I love. Your playthrough has been a bit frustrating at times but after thinking about it I think it's absolutely great. It is very different from my own and you don't see things I see in the game which can be frustrating at first, a lot of us have played this game and we delight in seeing you discover things that we discovered and when you side step them either in the game or in your analysis its a bit of a let down but that's not what makes playthroughs great. You have a different approach to other streamers and a professional perspective that makes all of it fascinating. You are not into politics but that's okay, I know where to go for political analysis of this game and you have to make it yours. Your playthrough is thoughtful, maybe you skip stuff, sometimes accidentally for instance with bagging the corpse too fast but those things happen. Read carefully, you are a good streamer and a great teacher. And don't worry about Kim. He is a pro, he wouldn't mind you misprofiling him. He is just like most of us. He wants you back on the case now, detective.
