I Was Trafficked at a Night Club When I Was 19.

Markie Dell is a human trafficking survivor. She was once just a regular 19-year old Canadian teenager, living in Hamilton and working a minimum wage job. One day her co-workers invited her to Toronto for a night out clubbing. Dell accepted, and all was fine until the next morning. On the way home, one of Dell’s co-workers said she owed her $600. Dell was shocked by the amount and revealed that she did not have the money. It was then that the co-worker dropped Dell off at a strip club and was told to make her the money.
Through a series of threats, Dell entered the club and became one of Canada's trafficked. She thought, "Ok, I'll make this money for her and it will be over.' I went in and told people, "I'm new, I don't want to do this,' but no one cared." This was Dell's life for the next 8 months. She worked all hours, day and night, shipped from strip club to strip club, and all the money she made was given to her pimps.
Markie Dell is finally ready to be a "tool of empowerment for young girls." Canada is a major target for human traffickers, with 90 percent of victims coming from with Canada, not abroad. Here Dell tells her story and gives some advice to young girls. Listen, share, like and donate.

I have 2 brothers and we all grew up really tough in the mid 70's on the streets of London. My Dad was a taskmaster. In retrospect I am so glad! We were all taught a sense of self worth, hard work and to spot a con artist a mile away. Having a bit of street in you isn't a bad thing and stops things like trafficking, drugs, etc... happening to impressionable young people.

I feel u. My dad was a biker, an ex-con and con man. After I was born, he put that to use in car sales and other legal jobs, and was a good father, though he did teach me a lot about the streets. Sadly, his addiction took him away from me early, but he had taught me everything I needed to know to survive. I’m not a con, and believe in being honest in sales and everything else. I don’t judge my dad. He was illiterate and legally blind (which is why he couldn’t learn to read, but he was never tested). He was labor trafficked at 15, when he ran away to look for his father. He did what he had to do to survive, and so his kids can do more than he did. That makes him a good father, if not a perfect person.

There should be a hotline for reporting human trafficking. People should not be able to use threats of violence towards someone's family to coerce them into prostitution. ...if the same person is found to be doing this, police should wire tap their next victim to get a conviction. Then send the person to jail for ten years along with any accomplices.

I educate my kids in academics and the street. I hit 18 and didn't have a frickin clue about the real world. My folks sheltered me. I ended up in a few sketchy situations. Luckily I made it out ok. Now I teach my kids to beware of preds, fake friends and offers that sound too good. Never go alone, always let someone know and always carry a loaded pistol(at the age it's legal)

If I was this girl, I would have kick the other girl's a** and told her to Kick Rocks. I can't believe how easy it was to get her to do these awful things. Just because some one threats you and tells you to do something doesn't mean you do it. Her parents FAILED her. SMDH !!!! Either this girl is lying or she is weak minded and dumb as dirt. I am sorry this story is unreal. She didn't have a gun to her head YET she stayed & didn't report these awful people. Did she EVER report these criminals? If not then I am NOT buying this story. This is probably what she told her parents when they found out her life style. I have heard this story before so many times from different girls. Own it or report these criminals.

Attention is a hellava drug especially when you realize you can get paid for attracting it from the opposite sex. There had to be some part of her that thought she was a cool kid at first then her "pimp" shamed her after doing these things for men and slowly broke down her psych and self worth more so it was harder to tell the truth to her parents.

Tara your words are insensitive as hell. As someone who has lived through it and identified with no prior knowledge the tactics and survived (I was not trafficked) I could have been described as that girl. I had no reason to believe otherwise, I lived in good parts of town. My only experience was that people sometimes stole things and there were bad people but the thing is a lot of people think it could never be them. I had previously dated the perpetrator. I had never had experiences in the realm of it, but I can tell you now exactly what they do. The man who attempted to do this to me - leveraged my ability to forgive, he used seduction techniques straight out of the art of seduction, pimping tactics, blackmail, and narcissistic abuse. I ended up with PTSD, but I still have my life and I would never wish it on anyone what happened to me. There is NO education about this stuff only the stories of the aftermath. Had I not somehow heard from idk some divine source “this is human trafficking - run!” Perhaps I would have been her. I may have been naive, but dumb I was ultimately not.
