But when it mattered, you did man up. I may be reaching, but the shared pad thing was at D cat? If so, that left you open. Hard call. Right call. The Prison service needs training help. Imagine starting out in this career and sitting in a room with this guy telling his story from the heart. I think it would be enough to prevent at least some folks from making the wrong choices. Anyway, as many have said before me, I wish him only the best going forward. He’s paid the price. Don’t let life break you bud. Edit: I originally commented while still watching. Its insane. They are so so manipulative. I worked in a kitchen and there was so much competition to see who could make me fold first. Sex, drugs, phones, outside contact. Luckily another inmate let me know they had a bet, plus multiple family members have been in for 20 plus years, (aaand my type of guy is more of an acoustic guitar player so i don't really have an attraction to any of them) That didn't surprise me but what surprised me was how well they knew me despite the fact that I tried to be the same with all of them. If i had a bad day, they knew no matter how bad I tried to act like i was okay, they that i was upset. THAT creeped me out.

Ask him how he feels that New York city and state corrections officers with four years on the job and work fifty hours end up making roughly 110k before tax ... Versus HMP corrections officers going up to 26-27k roughly after a year or couple yrs? UK prisons aren't 5x less dangerous or stressful but get five times less compensation ? Genuinely curious ... Keeping aside higher cost of living etc in NY, and currency exchange etc ...

Imagine the only thing working is your mind and you have thirty years of that ahead of you with no way out. Trapped in your guilty mind rewinding day after day. Some good lads in clink who've simply made a bad decision, often when they're at their lowest and vulnerable, or their mental health has affected their judgment. Have a CAT A on my patch (NHS paramedic) which we're back and forth too quite regularly. About five years ago responded there due to an officer who'd been stabbed/slashed in the face and throat. He only survived because four other lads on the wing tackled the kid with the blade, dragging him off the officer and pinning him down till other staff responded. They undoubtedly saved his life, and that's something "scum" would never do. Just goes to show even in prison people still want to do the right thing. Hope you made it out the other side unscathed and got your life back on track mate 👍

You might have still been dealing with some demons. That was wrong, I jumped the gun. I’ll definitely fix that comment. Thank you for commenting. I’m glad you’re doing better. I’m sure it was a very very difficult situation. I was a heroin addict and I’ve been clean for 7 years but I still can’t get over some of the things I’ve done. All the power to you brother. It takes a huge amount of courage to talk so openly about things we've done that we feel ashamed of. And this guy holds his hands right up and admits it was all his fault. Not trying to blame anyone else or point fingers. He's using his shame to hopefully improve the coaching prison officers get. Can't help but feel like good things are coming his way. Good luck to you, sir.

You are most welcome, darling. We all make mistakes, but not all of us choose to use them to help others. That speaks volumes. Even just speaking so openly and with vulnerability, as a man, you are giving an incredible message to other young men, not just prison officers. Feeling shame is okay. Owning your mistakes is okay. Asking for help and forgiveness is okay. Your openness here will go further than you realise. Xx best of luck to you.

Whats crazy about it? Its supply and demand and given how poorly they are paid for what theyre expected to deal with on top of the monotony then what outcome is expected? Its just a product of capatalism and more specifically, black market economics and there are lots of other factors. like he said, only having been searched less than half A dozen times in 18 months. Thinking the odds are in your favour and they might be, the first few times you do it. You dont really consider the odds of doing it hundreds of times at that point Financial trouble, a sense of lonliness, lack of excitement, etc etc. im sure are plenty of other major factors. Similar reasons to why people risk any illicit activity. I dont find it super crazy. Poorly scrutinised choices, sure. But far from crazy. You dont hear about the ones that get away with it obviously.

I worked in a male cat B prison for a while, not as an officer, and drugs were rife in the prison. I walked onto one wing and the smell of cannabis smoke was eye watering! I asked one of the officers if they were going to deal with it and he said no, it keeps them calm and there's no fighting. Shortly after I left, the prison went totally no smoking for staff or prisoners, as non-smokers had been successfully sueing the govt because they had been forced to endure passive smoking. I dont know how everyone was kept quiet after that.
