I Was SHOCKED - My First Visit To WHITSTABLE

Whitstable is one of the best places to go in Kent!
In this vlog I visit the heritage fishing town of Whitstable on the north coast of Kent for the first time. As far as British seaside towns go, this was by far my favourite day out in a long time and I was not expecting it to be as good as it was!
Most famous for it’s oysters and harbour area, it’s not your typical English seafront with bright lights, arcades and funfair rides - it’s so much more! Join me on this 4K walking tour as I walk from Tankerton beach to the picturesque Whitstable castle, onto the harbour and then a look around the town centre. See exactly why YOU should visit!
My name is Jack and I’m exploring the UK, making travel vlogs as I go. I’d be so grateful for your support, so please do like the video, leave a comment and subscribe to my channel here - youtube.com/@jackryanmiller?s...

I’m a OG DFL. I moved to Whitstable 15yrs ago from London/Kent borders and I absolutely love living here. It’s a beautiful place to live, the locals have been nothing but very friendly to me, the surrounding area of Kent and East Sussex is stunning to explore… I can see why floods of londoners are escaping the smoke to Kent/Sussex… but that’s exactly what I wanted to escape back then…

Great video. Outside at the Old Neptune is my favourite place in the world! Shame you missed the famous Whitstable sunset. There is also a series of local stencil art from Catman - Whitstable’s own Bansky - who has recently got his art of Shepherd Neame pint glasses. I saw you pass one without comment in the video. Just one thing - please don’t call Whitstable a fishing “village” though - this always really grates. It has a population of over 30k…

The big car park is called the Gorrell Tank because that is exactly what it is. Beneath all the cars, under the concrete, is a massive tank full of water. It used to be an open reservoir into which, as a kid, I threw stones. Was born, raised and worked in the town before moving away to a retire. Simply got too busy with people and the town, in my opinion, is a victim of its own success.

@@jackryanmiller The reservoir and now a tank takes surface water from the town and then pumps it out under the road and into the harbour. The pumping station building sits on a corner of the car park. On the inland side of the car car park off Westgate Terrace is a road called Reservoir Road.

I love Whitstable. I actually didn't know about the castle so will have to check it out on my next visit! Also 11:30 is definitely not too early for a pint. There is a great little pub / bar somewhere on the high street called The Black Dog, loads of cool old quirky things on the walls and they have an excellent selection of fruity or non-standard ciders. More of an evening vibe though.

The “floating random pier” 😂 is the remaining part. There used to be an extension off the end of the current concrete structure. However, due to natural costal erosion, Hampton didn’t flourish as a sea-side town like, Herne Bay or Whitstable. I live in Herne Bay and I am very interested in the local history. There is a lot of history if you look in the right places.

You forgot to mention the car park you show, that it is £3.70/hour. Thats an expensive day in Whitestable ! However, it is a beautiful place, I was in the Neptune pub today. Next to the theatre, you missed the 'Peter Cushin' pub, converted from an old cinema, great deco, named after the famous actor who was a resident of Whitstable.
