I always assumed the spoken word at the intro was recorded for this song but today I spent the afternoon binge watching black and white horror films and I actually stumbled upon where it was from! It's from Nightmare Castle, a 1965 film about a man who murders his wife and marries her sister in an attempt to get hold of the family fortune (among other things).

So the song is about Osamu Dazai's book titled "No Longer Human" and the English quote comes from Nightmare Castle. Interesting.

I...I almost couldn't finish the song. Not because it wasn't good (this song with your voice and the lyrics are just so goddamn beautiful it's like listening to an angel) but because the song itself just...I'm shook. This song just...it's so eerie how much you think you're so alone in thinking a certain way, that when you hear it coming from someone else is like a cold splash of water. The lyrics themselves and the emotion you put into this cover...I literally almost couldn't. I almost cried, and that itself takes a lot. Thank you for this amazing cover, rachie! It's absolutely, emotionally stunning.

Something about this beautiful cover just makes me want to cry and sing to it forever there really was a lot of emotion put into these lyrics and the way it’s sung is just so mesmerizing and meaningful and Im frustrated that this beautiful masterpiece doesn’t have millions of views yet but we’re almost there

I would like to think that this song is almost dedicated to the feeling that Dazai tried to portray in No Longer Human. That feeling of being alone in the world without a sense of release. It's impossible to escape the foundation of what you are.

there is so many things that are amazing about this song, but in particular the final "no longer human" absolutely destroys me

Three years ago this song suddenly played while I was smoking and listening to Japanese songs, I enjoyed it a lot until it ended and that's when I realized that I didn't saw the title of this song. Picked up my phone and accidentally dropped it, I didn't mind it but when I turned it on again, all I could see was a black screen. Three years until now, I've finally found this exact song cover and I love it the same way I loved this song three years ago.

It is said that actually the original song was inspired by that book. And yeah, it's basically the author putting his experiences and feelings after WWII. It is basically how a guy feels so alienated from reality he just goes with the motions, pretends to be the funny type but never manages to connect with others. And from there he goes on a spiral of self-destruction.

This is... awhile after I initially heard this song. I needed to take a looong break from this, but I'm finally here to comment on it... A dear friend of mine passed away, and this song is what she left for me to listen to... I've listened to it every night since they passed now, and it's been an... emotionally challenging experience. @@RenAsterion I'm doing very well. Thank you. This song still hurts, but... it also brings me joy and warmth, because I can, at least for a little while, remember her. It's not gaining something that tests our character as people, as humans. It's always when we lose something that we figure out who we truly are. Thank you for being compassionate and giving me hope for people and for humanity as a whole.

I love this version as well as juby's but I realized that the way they sang it and the song Changed its meaning. For juby it could mean saying goodbye to someone alone. Only one person. For this one however. Goodbye for everyone but left unheard. Its hard to understand but in this one she says 'its time to say goodbye' for the other 'I won't see you again.' Each touched my heart 😢

Yeah, it's probably a metaphor for how people saw him as a human before it came out that he is actually a lizard robot.

I don't know why, but I feel like I really identify with this song. Not only the lyrics, but Rachie's voice and all the emotion behind the song almost made me cry. Saying that, I hope you are okay, Rachie. A few years ago, something happened, and since then I've been dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts and actions. This song makes me feel like I'm looking into a mirror of my past. Maybe I'm wrong, but either way, remember that no matter how much bad there is in the world, there may not be more good, but even a little bit of good is worth holding onto. Sorry for going on a bit of a tangent...

I used to do that when I had a real long low period. That feeling of being trapped and waiting until I was alone and home. This song would help to channel all of those feelings and let them out. Thank god I had concrete walls as well.
