    To clarify, I was supposed to be the butt of the controversies joke, not the voice actors. I don't actually care about the controversies of neither Orlando nor Tara, hence why I didn't go into detail of either. The point of that joke was that people will sometimes blindly get angry at celebrity dramas until it's a celebrity they like, as well as I wanted to put out there that I personally separate art from artist. If you think one drama is worse than the other, I'm not really gonna argue because, as a reviewer, I mainly care about the performances, not the behavior of the performers when they're not performing.

    As my brother always says, "Not my circus, not my monkeys". I can understand she wanted to voice her opinion, but voicing ANY opinion online comes with the risks. Best to just turn and walk away whenever someone asks "Do you like A or B" since either choice comes with its own supporters that will dislike choosing the other one.

    It's one thing to make a kid-friendly Crime Drama parody. But to pull it all off without sacrificing any the core elements and appeal of Crime Drama. Fillmore is godlike for that alone.

    The thing about parodies that a lot of people who make parodies seem to forget is that a GOOD parody shows a lot of love and respect for the thing they're parodying. It's not just "Oh look, there's a reference to a thing that's familiar!" That's why Fillmore! is a great parody, it ironically takes the part they're parodying (cop shows) seriously and the humour is in the setting and world it takes place.

    Let me put it this way: Fillmore talks about their completely fake pastiche crimes with more grace and nuance than most "serious" 21st century episodic cop shows. If this show was able to be revived and did an episode on opioids, it wouldn't have a scene of fumes of the analogue chasing people into a bathroom.

    That's pretty much the point of the show, the exaggerate stuff like this in order to make the plot and setting make sense, they do similar stuff on cartoons like Codename: Kids Next Door. Like there's obviously never going to be such a thing as a "bathroom committee" 😂🤣😂, also there's not going to be storerooms inside schools that look like literal warehouses, also Fillmore and the others would still have to attend classes, from what I hear the show to fix them as being full-time cops, at the very least they would have to switch with other students every period, with that time they serve as safety patrol members being school credit.

    It was definitely a wonderful example of how Fillmore has come so far from his past as a juvenile delinquent. Often times it is easy to fall back into your old bad habits when you are exposed to a familiar influence, in this case, it being Fillmore's old partner, Penny.

  • @flibbernodgets7018
    @flibbernodgets70183 ай бұрын

    Why? Because it's a kids' show that takes kids' problems seriously. It's very common to feel ignored or dismissed by adults who have more experience and perspective and thus are able to deal with comparatively small setbacks and problems, but that may be the first time the kid has encountered that problem and is struggling to learn how to handle it. That's why middle schoolers and high schoolers are so dramatic; everything is the end of the world because for all they know it might be. And knowing that, knowing that the stakes are so much higher than they would objectively appear, Fillmore still reaches out and appeals to the humanity of everyone he interacts with because he knows everyone deserves a second chance. I'm glad you covered this, I'm always happy to be reminded of this show.

    13:43 About why Andy Warhol Jr. went into the girls bathroom, my guess is that since he said drawing toilets is his secret passion, he probably already did draw the boys bathroom toilet and now wanted to draw the girls one as well. Now why he went in there right when Fillmore and Ingrid were watching it is definitely for plot reasons, but there is a probable explanation for why he went there at least.

    Fyi, 'To Mar a Stall' was the first episode to air, but not the first one chronologically. That would be the eighth episode to air, 'Ingrid Third, Public Enemy #1.' If you want more of an origin story, that's the one to watch. While not official, I've always held the suspicion that someone at the station made a mistake, mixed up the intended air dates, and the two episodes were switched, making 'To Mar a Stall' the actual intended eighth episode.

    Eh, probably just a coincidence, like Lego’s name. It’s simply a portmanteau of the Danish words for “play” and “well”. They weren’t making the bricks until many years after their founding, and they didn’t discover that it’s also Latin for “I put together” until after the fact.

    Bro, you have the best suprise laugh that it even caught me off guard. And the final scene was so good was that it eas in itself a parody of procedurals where the cop talks down a suspect by humanizing them. The situation in the show is completely ridiculous when you realize what they're using as a motive but it's still a device in writing that is meant to show that the cop sees innocence in a character that others may not. That shows you how well written the show was but also that the creators knew what they were doing because they love the SOURCE they're pulling from. They understand the genre rather than just copying it so they can achieve a tone that is both comedic but gives kid a different tone they wouldn't get in a lot of shows aimed towards them.

    Shady you should consider reviewing the KotH episode "The Passion of Dautrieve". It's gotta be one of the largest (if not the largest) character assassinations in the show. Bill finally finds a woman who loves him unconditionally but ultimately breaks up with her due to some really dumb logic.

  • @christianjohnson5379

    @christianjohnson5379

    3 ай бұрын

    When Shady did his review of "Returning Japanese", he analyzed Bill's hallucination when they were in that tent with John Redcorn, where is depicted Bill being naked on a motorbike using a giant fork as a jump into a gigantic pie. Shady briefly studied psychology and interpreted that dream meaning that Bill is on a path of unhealthy pleasures that will eventually lead to his demise, he's depicted as being naked in that vision because he displays no shame about it nor does he care if he harms others because of it. Basically "The Passion of the Dautrieve" is a blatant example of that being true, he initially gets together with Reverend Karen Stroope and reciprocates her romantic feelings, but because she was the Reverend of their church, they were getting judgements from others, and this inspired Karen to quit her job....but because there was no longer any sense of "forbidden romance", Bill didn't find any spark in the relationship anymore because it was thrilling to be romantically involved with someone when the rest of the world judged them. And yeah, he ended up breaking up with her for those reasons. And I agree, Bill was completely dumb for doing that, he complains about being lonely all the time, and then a good, and decently attractive woman with similar values like Karen and suddenly that's not good enough. Or more accurately, he deep down doesn't actually want to find a woman he can spend the rest of his life with, he just wants pleasure.
